You said that Sum of the part greater than the whole. Is that what you meant?? The saying I am thinking of is actually "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts."

We continue to define more and more standards that duplicate or overlap existing standards and frameworks that were not fully understood and therefore rarely implemented correctly. Answer, create a new that will require expensive mapping, a new exercise taxonomy and ontology, that further isolate us from each other and our business partners we are here to serve.

Answering Mark Dickson's request for feedback on the White Paper. It is actually quite superbly written, clear and concise. But I took Mark's request for feedback as a personal challenge :) So here are my findings: 1) There were no easy typos to be found! 2) For someone coming from TOGAF 9.2, a overview diagram/infogram of the main changes from 9.2 -> 10, providing a "at-a-glance" view of changes could be benificial. 3) On page 38 in "Details of Change", the following text: "Logical Technology Component provides platform for Business Service" seems incomplete, begging for a "a platform" or "the platform". ...that is all... These findings are miniscule and a little "nitpicky", and further support the obvious fact that the whitepaper is very well written and finalized. But hey, I took the challenge and did my best. Hope it benefits someone somewhere... or at least it might bring a smile to someone's face who needs it today ;) /Hlynur

This is the James Martin, Business Architecture variant. It is helpful for identifying the Strategically important critical path. The same workshop wherein you define the value stream and its stages you may be able to create the Business Capability catalog and map. They can be used to help envision current and target state. But the James Martin variant can only describe work and critical success factors Qualitatively. James Martin streams are top-down. Capabilities are great tools for strategic planning because you do not get bogged down in operational minutia. But, they are NOT good for Critical Success Factor identification (except perhaps qualitatively -- strategic descriptions). Lean Value Streams, at the highest end to end level, the Karen Martin sort, perform a fairly similar function. But they are summed up from below. Folks add events and processes to a board. They're grouped into Process Families. They apply Lean Process Quality models to them. %Complete & Accurate. Quality of Inputs. Lead Time. Cycle Time. Process Time. Enabling Time. Unnecessary enabling time. Dead end work. etc... You also can spend time associating resources needed to get the work done. Which sounds a LOT like the Definition Phases B-D of the TOGAF ADM. This sort of Value Stream is amazing for identifying Quantifiable Critical Success Factors. But the risk is getting bogged down in operational details and analysis. Still, used properly, a Lean Practitioner is another role, framework, and method which can perform Gap Closure. Both of these have their roots in Software Engineering analysis. One from James Martin 1995, the other from Toyota Engineers, a book by Rother 1999, and then Karen Martin in 2013. Once used in Manufacturing, now used in Knowledge and Service work. What I haven't yet seen is something in the middle. Something that uses the qualitative version of a value stream for Critical Success Factor identification, but uses coded thematic analysis (scored stores on a scale of 1-5) like Application Rationalization frameworks. I guess that would be a... Business Rationalization Value Stream.

The video is a presentation about the TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) standard, specifically its 10th edition. TOGAF is a framework for enterprise architecture, which provides a comprehensive approach to the design, planning, implementation, and governance of an enterprise information architecture. Here's a simplified explanation suitable for an 8-year-old: Imagine you have a big box of LEGOs. You want to build a big LEGO city with houses, shops, roads, and parks. TOGAF is like a set of instructions and tips to help you build your LEGO city in the best way possible. It tells you how to plan your city, where to put the houses and shops, how to make sure there are enough roads, and how to keep your city looking nice. In the video, they talk about the new, 10th version of these instructions. They've made some changes to make it easier to understand and use. They've added more tips and ideas, and they've organized everything better. This means you can find the instructions you need more quickly and build your LEGO city even better than before. They also talk about how these instructions are made by people who are really good at building LEGO cities. These people have tried lots of different ways to build cities, and they share their best ideas in TOGAF. Lastly, they mention that even though they have new instructions, the old ones are still good and you can use them if you want. They're planning to make even more improvements in the future to help people build the best LEGO cities they can. So, TOGAF is like a super helpful guide for building something big and complicated, like a LEGO city, but it's actually used by adults to plan and organize big computer systems and businesses.

Great video. At Dragon1 we have an extended Enterprise Architecture modeling language that does include entity classes and shapes like architecture, concept, element, layer, change, building block, module and standard, needed to model architecture next to structure. We always wonder why ArchiMate does not (yet) include these entity classes.

Hummm… at 3:20 sourcing from traditional “in-house”…. You kind of lost it there, I think. IT shops of all kinds have been “outsourcing” with questionable results for over 25 years… Outsoureing is certainly nothing new. My experience is that in the past 5 years companies are bringing IT functions back in house as a result of failed outsourcing. I think you’ve missed this one a bit.

Enjoying someone fully hitting all nails in my Swedish, broken, half-federal organization's head (or coffin 😭). Now I know how inadequate the current internal initiatives and "improvements" are (since we don't have or seems to be getting an backbone, or people who understands it, anytime soon)

The amazing key message, stop doing modelling and describing to get into action... come down from the ivory tower. It is true. so true. However, from a Capability perspective to be Agents of change then the roles move between Architecture to Implementation
