SPS do not tolerate dips well immediately after a shipment. It's best to let them settle in a bit in an observation tank/tub. Once the coral has settled in and has been under light for at least a few days, then you can give a dip if you wish and add to the display system. It's always best to QT if you can but even then it's nearly inevitable to keep all the hitchhikers out. All we can do is cater to the corals as best as possible and follow the rule of, when in doubt get it out!

What do you do to keep phosphates in check with the nitrates going up
@Colton_Lee16 күн бұрын
Besides feeding foods lower in phosphate (frozen foods have much less than pellets or flakes) and doing occasional water changes, I've run Phosban and most phosphate removers seem keep up with a fairly modest level of input. I have also heard that Kalkwasser has a phosphate/phosphorous (not sure which or maybe both) lowering effect. Its probably small, but would explain my phosphate not rising much after I hadn't run phosban in a while.

@@Colton_Lee man lower phosphate foods phosphate media and sodium nitrate dosing that’s seems like a lot keep eye on it
@Colton_Lee16 күн бұрын
@@xhongxina286 The only reason I'm staring sodium nitrate is because I'm struggling to get my nutrients up after having carbon dosed the end of last year. Normally I would just run the skimmer to keep the nutrients balanced, let the refugium chaeto do its thing and occasionally refresh my phosban if needed. Especially with occasional water changes, you could remove the need for phosphate remover if you input is low.

I definitely run my lights with a good about of white, so it should look great when settled in. I've heard also increasing the green chanel can help produce more yellow as well. Not sure if that's just a visual thing or if it helps the coral produce more yellow pigment.
