We document our journeys and struggles in the world of mechanical maintenance and restoration. Come along with us as we work on classic cars, old trucks, tractors; pretty much anything that catches our eyes. Using our unique blend of lack of money, too much time, and not enough patience, we troubleshoot and repair a myriad of projects that most likely other people have been too sane to tackle.

I like to change the pid on maf sensor to grams per sec its a little easier for me to look at. plus at idle around 800rpm on most vehicles it will equal the size of the engine ex. that you have is a 2.4liter it will be 2.4 grams per sec idling if its reading right. a easy way to check to see if cat is plugged is by unhooking egr back pressure valve and hooking a pressure gauge snap throttle should have no pressure.
I want to learn how to fix a mower
Thanks for sharing keep up the good work 👍🏼👍🏼💯
That cup cadet lawn tractor sounds awesome and cuts the grass pretty good when the engine is not backfired 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Would I follow these same steps for a 2005 Toyota rav4?
According to the RAV4 generations, 2000-2005 should all be the same. From what I’m seeing, anyway.
Cut the 2 on the 20 for the badges off and jb weld on a 1 of some other badges to make them say 10 diesel
I did consider that….. it is still on the possibility list!
Head over to Partsgeek and start sourcing new body parts. Stop waisting time fussing over those rusty fenders!
When you have more patches ready for plastic I am saving on plastic When the need arises. Not so much waste
Big shout out!!! It’s coming along quite nicely. Far better than my dually that I haven’t touched.
Don't be so hard on yourself! It is going be a nice driver for someone. As you said finding a solid old truck in the salt air is always a challenge.
Yeah buddy! Excited to see this project back on the road!
Good video, enjoyed watching it!
hiiiiiiiiii
Well needed
I never get that lucky
What did you spray to break it loose
In this case PB Blaster because that’s what I had. Kroil works better but i was out.
Thanks for the help! I’m going to drop the transmission on a Jaguar XE. It’s a ZF 8HP45. I’m not worried about the transfer case, tho. I think this will be more than plenty.
Glad it could help someone!
As the saying goes..." It takes courage to own a courage"..lol. I have two 20 HP engines that are done. First one had the bad casting and has a hole in the block just like the one you have, and the other caught on fire and burned up the engine. The oil fires are usually caused be the bolts coming loose under the flywheel and oil starts to get flung around and onto the muffler. I noticed the engine you are using has a lot of sludge on the top. Check all your block bolts under that flywheel just incase some have come loose. Great video and we'll see you in the next one.
After I shot the video I discovered the valve cover seal was bad, which is where the grime appears to have come from in this case. Although there was a lot of it on the old frame too. I will check those bolts also, thank you for noting that!
Sorry to say, but you are just a beginning.Ask JamesCondon ,maybe he will teach you.
Okay. I've been working on small engines for over 30 years. Either no one is giving you good advice. Or you're not accepting it. When it comes to starters if it has a metal flywheel gear. The starter will always use a plastic gear. If it has a plastic gear on the flywheel. It will use a metal gear on the starter. That is the way all of them are made. Jumping cables are the fastest way to burn up a starter on anything including a car. They waste a lot of power. All you need is a good charge battery. An the older starter would have worked well. I hope you're not trying to mislead people. You do not sound like the kind of person that would do that. So I do wish you the best of luck. And truly hope you do not mind taking some friendly advice. From someone who knows. 💯.
I should have clarified that plastic starter gears are used with plastic ring gears or aluminum ring gears. Steel starter gears are only used with steel ring gears.
Take this guy and experience with a grain of salt. His work bench is his truck tailgate. The valves need to be adjusted every 250 hours on a Briggs and Stratton. They do not "always keep going out of adjustment." The starter back bolt can be accessed and removed and replaced, without "doing all kinds of things.".
Try not to over heat the new starter proceedes to hold the cable on the starter another 5 mins 😂
Do as I say, not as I do 😂
@@wrenchwranglers 🤣great video by the way 👍👍
@@danielpadgett2831 thanks! I always appreciate anyone who takes the time to watch me muddle my way through projects!
@@wrenchwranglers I think you did a excellent job
Where is the fill for hydraulic fluid
It’s behind the tractor on the top right side of the 3-point hitch housing. The tank is built into the top of the 3-point. The operator station platform extends back over it, so it’s not as easy to access as it could be, but it’s still possible to remove the cap and get a funnel in if you’re careful.
Darn
My those ripped wires are da cause
The very first thing I do with any mower I get is spend 10 mins adjusting the valves. As well as check the valve travel to monitor for wear on camshaft lobes. Then I worry about carb and starting it.
That is a very sound procedure. Usually by the time I get an engine it’s so worn out that correct procedures are an afterthought lol.
You should never jump a starter at the positive nut on a starter that will damage the nut with the load sparkling on it. Leave the positive connected an use the negative to make or break connection that way you will not damage the starter nut. 😮
Hooking a good battery up to the battery cables would have been a good start
if fly wheel teeth are plastic- starter gear plastic, if metal flywheel-metal starter gear
Indeed….. I think I should have emphasized that more because I see so many that have the wrong combination
I want that mower!
Please, could you tell me how connected your scaner tool?
In this case it’s just a normal OBDII scanner that plugs into the factory OBDII port below the steering wheel.
alot of it is because ur using such long cable to a battery not hooked up to mower pulls alot more amps
All you needed was to connect a good hot strong battery I've worked on them to much to know it needed a battery connection better than jumper cables good job tho
Yes my jumper cables are garbage. Hard to find good ones anymore. Off camera I did try to turn it over with a direct battery connection on one of the small starters before buying the larger one but it didn’t make the final video cut since it was just another failure.
Heavy 2 or 4 gauge wire jumper cables make a big difference in successful starting.
@@mikespain8655 indeed…. I’ve been looking for a good pure copper 2/0 or bigger set but they are hard to find. Most are copper clad aluminum that disintegrates in a year or two. I’ve been limping along this little set but I need to upgrade badly.
I had the same problem with my Cub this past spring change the starter solonoid, the starter ( they both were probably fine,) and fix a flat on new tires. And found out the valves were out of adjustment and the battery was 6 years old about. I mean it ran fine last season when i put it back in the garage but would not start this spring or last fall to take care of the leaves didn't Start so i didn't mess with the snow blower for it. ( only paid 200 bucks for it it was used one time works perfectly) now i need to build a rear weight rack for it, it would also help the agro tires bite in better i had snow chains year round on it. My yard has 2 steep hills.
Have you looked at wheel weight options? I’ve had a few lawn tractors with wheel weights and they make a considerable difference since the weight is right there on the drive wheels.
Suck
👌👌👍👍 Nice work. Thanks for the video.
Так же на трактор установил косилку,скоро у нас сенокос,надо много накосить травы для корма коровам на зимний период
There now, that wasn't so hard! 👍👍👌👌🤣🤣 Nice work! Thanks for the video.
That is good! Hopefully more people will start to repair things rather than throwing them away. That helps make the world a better place!
I love working on lawn tractors and push mowers you can show me things I've could have missed so keep up the great work I'll always be watching 👍👍👍👍👍👍🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
You are a great recycler! Congratulations on a successful project. The first one will be a fine addition to someone else's lawn care fleet.
Well done
I have a LTX 1040 I need the gas tank
Well, for it not getting any fuel to the carb You can always pressure ize to take a little bit and see if it clears out the carb
If I do not mow, the grass gets too high and it’s annoying to work in it. More insects hide there and we have fire ants that will get out of control. But mostly it will just grow too high create other maintenance issues. There are no fines here for not mowing, but if I do not it will soon swallow my cars and trailers. The type of grasses we have here will get very high.
@@wrenchwranglers ясно! И в правду и кажется у вас там водятся в длинной траве очень ядовитые змеи ,я об этом не подумал ,у нас в россии в траве можно спокойно спать единственно комары мешают
The ad would be: 73-80 c/k cab for sale, rare color highly sought after just needs new rockers which are like $40 on ebay, once fixed will easily be worth 10k, just dont have time to mess with, my loss your gain $2000 firm no low ballers.
Lol you got it exactly! I think I’ve seen, like 3 of those ads today 😂
That surge is the carb.
I’m wanting to swap an 80s front clip to my 74 just like yours were the wiper blades able to line up with the 80s cowl I need to keep my wipers so I’m iffy on the swap
The arms and blades appear to be interchangeable. It’s the longer/shorter drive shafts that the arms mount to protruding out of the cowl that’s important. As long as you switch the drive assembly it works. The old ones have to be short to fit under the hood, and the newer ones have to be long enough to stick through the cowl. Those aren’t interchangeable. The right one has to be used with the right hood/cowl.
@@wrenchwranglers good to know that’s for getting back to me gonna prolly go for the swap thanks!
Do you happen to know on this car how to get to the recirculation door actuator right above where the cabin filter is? We have a 2002 that that actuator seems to have died, but looks impossible to get to without disassembling a bunch of stuff. Thanks
You should be able to access it by pulling the fan/filter box. Unless you have really really small hands. I pulled the box in this video: m.kzread.info/dash/bejne/dGpk1JdmhsW7c7A.html
@@wrenchwranglers Thank you so much for that link! I couldn't find anything that shows how to get that fan/filter box moved to the point I could get to the actuator. That video is very helpful.
This is what happens, to neglected engines, you mean....
Indeed. I guess it just seems to happen that the ones I get are always neglected. Buy cheap mowers, win cheap prizes lol
