that's like the TPMS in my car almost 20 years ago... it was one of those that came out really early... it just had a single LED warning light to indicate low tire pressure... no idea which tire... so I had to get out of the car and check each of the 4 tires. :)

Very well done! The crew first declared an emergency, as they should have but many pilots don't. Calm, cool professionalism on display here, especially both pilot's ATC procedures. Definitely NOT DEI hires. I flew for United for 29 years, and to see this makes me proud. Well done guys!

why would you need to 'inspect' the brakes?? they ARE going to be warm - even with a regular landing. There is NOTHING that ARFF can do until there is fire/smoke - all FLIR will show is "woah, there are some good roasting BBQ temps there" - this whole thing is POINTLESS

  • @ghostrider-be9ek

LOL no - in the REST of the world, for safety reasons you ALWAYS vacate the runway - unless you are disabled or on fire - this was pretty stupid

  • @ghostrider-be9ek

and after going through this - Air Canada pilots recently in toronto decide to PARK on a runway, instead of vacating as per standard safety practices - what is wrong with that company? lol

Had a door pop open on me once as a passenger in a 152 just after takeoff. Apparently I hadn't latched it securely. We turned around, landed, actually latched the door, and headed on our way. Weird feeling to know that the door wasn't latched as several hundred feet. Though I also learned (along with triple checking thee door is latched) that your door can be used as a makeshift rudder in an emergency.

Want to know why a lot of this shit happens? First reason, the federal government is in charge. They still use paper, YES PAPER, to put the planes in order of who takes off and who lands. They haven't changed it in a zillion years. Should we be surprised? Second reason, the airlines started hiring based on quotas, ie, color of your skin or group. So we've got our moron government guiding people who got the job due to idiot airlines imposing their own affirmative action. Are you scared yet???? You should be.

ATC seemed not to realize that the pilot was busy trying to work the problem. Didn't offer vectors or distance, the fuel on board wasn't necessary at the moment. Sounded like a trainee over his head.

The ATC has to do their job too. The pilot can respond to what is immediately necessary. If I’m too busy, I’ll quickly say “stand by” and continue troubleshooting.

Happened to me once (passenger) years ago in a rental C152. Leaning on the door at the time; it didn't completely come off, but the top hinge completely separated. EMER'd to KDTO and "repaired" with safety wire. That rental was on the house.

Lots of mistakes and incongruities here. When cockpit smoke is present, time is critical. Smoke may cause crew to lose control of the airplane since they might not see their flight instruments at all depending on smoke intensity, also asking crew to report field in sight is inappropriate, if for some reasons they can’t see their flight instruments, they sure won’t see the airport. Keeping that airplane at or above 10,000’ might prevent crew from depressurizing the cabin to allow smoke dissipation. As a controller, I would have given them a quick heading (east) and a descent to lower altitude for an immediate return to land ASAP on RWY27R as requested by the crew. It’s ok (required) to ask Lbs of fuel, SOB, and DG (hazmat) but only once! Cockpit/cabin smoke is probably the most severe emergency one can experience in flight outside of loosing all flight displays in IMC conditions. Lots of historical unrecoverable events on records have ended with thousands of lives lost. Think of Air Canada 797, Saudia 163, Varig 820, Swissair 111, in the case of Saudia 163, everyone on board (301 persons) died even after the airplane landed almost uneventfully. Fly safe to all!

Even if his radio wasn’t receiving the ATC, & he legitimately believed he was at an uncontrolled airfield, how is it he lined up & took off with traffic in the pattern? If he couldn’t see the other aircraft, &/or hear them on his radio, he’s too much of a hazard to be flying anywhere.

ATC might not seem ideal but the pilots got cleared for a visual approach and cleared to land immediately which is probably the #1 priority in case of an emergency. Also, pilots not following standard RT in any way whatsoever isn't helping either. Finally with so many faults and unsure what the issue is, surprised the pilots were happy to wonder so far out. SOPs may have been impeding decision making there 🤷‍♂️

ATC here does more to cause unnecessary stress than any confusion the pilot might have had. His attitude makes the pilot’s anxiety worse and honestly it’s disgusting. ATC had an attitude problem, along with a need to control and demean. He’s knows he’s making things worse and doesn’t care cause he’s an unhappy asshole. Fire this prick before he kills someone!
