    I'm thinking of a square hole in the table and the monitor mounted under on a regular monitor arm so it can be raised up flush to the table surface, locked and played on. When not played on, lower the monitor a bit and put a sheet of wood over the hole.

    Is it possible to add anti-aliasing or something to smooth the edges of the 3d models? Because even in 4k rendering and highest quality level, it's too far of precise :( too bad... I have a radeon 6700 oc so I think it could run with AA. Thanks !

    What if the projector was under the table displaying on a semi translucent screen on the table?

  • @infiniterealms8479
    @infiniterealms84793 ай бұрын

    Technically this can be done, but in our opinion this has too many downsides. Distance from projector to surface is shorter so you get a smaller projection area. You would also have to cut a hole in your table and protect the projector from accidentally being kicked. It also would be cheaper to just build a TV into the table, which also gets you better image quality / brightness.

    This isn't working at all for me. I created a scene using a legacy map. The app immediately recognized that I am using two screens and it displays the map on both screens. When I select the Fog of War tab and toggle on Fog of War, the map on my main screen dims a little, while the secondary screen goes completely blank. I can move my cursor over either screen and left click and right click and drag and nothing happens. I am running Windows 11 Home edition. I am not sure what IR version it is, because it does not show a version on launch, there is no version information in the settings, and no ReadMe file in the default directory. I downloaded the app from the IR site today.

    Hi, by default the "Movement & Token" tool will be active when you start a scene. To remove (and re-add) Fog of War the corresponding "Fog of War" tool has to be active. It is the cloud with eye symbol in the top tool row, you can also activate it with hotkey "2". Also the bottom menu has to be closed for the tool to be working (hotkey "Tab"). See infinite-realms.app/tutorials/tools/#fow

    @@infiniterealms8479 yep, that was the issue. It wasn't clear to me from the instructional video that I had to take the extra steps of closing the menu at the bottom of the screen and clicking the eye at the top after toggling on fog of war.

    Hi, i started with an "old" TV and switched to an Beamer... this is why: 1) I dont wanted to cut out the table and so the tv was ontop of the table, 2) the viewing angle was not really well (color distortions) and 3) we had relections from the ceiling lamps. then i bought an cheap 1080p beamer from amazon for about 120€ (i checked that is it a really 1080p and no upscaling type). And we love it, 1) we have much more space on the table 2) the beamer is easy to turn on and off via remote. 3) Yes the colors are a little bit paler colors, but the viewing angle is for everyone equally good! (My big advantage is, that our gaming room is in the cellar (a "real man cave") and so we dont have a lot of sunlight there.) One point which is here not mentioned, and which I was worried about: a beamer is much louder than a TV, and this is why i turn it off, if it is not needed... for battles or other "loud" gameplay its totally fine. For an "silent" cave exploration it can be distracting. I was really lucky with the ceiling height in my basement (its really low), because between my table and the celling are only 1,45m and the beamer has no zoom, but the projected picture is exactly 43".... and thats perfect for us.

    Thanks for the comment, very interesting. We did not mention projector fan noise because it is no issue in our setup - we are using a Philips projector that is quite silent. But, depending on your hardware, fan noise can of course be distracting.

    The Universal VTT file format sadly does not support videos / animations, so no auto generated virtual walls and lights on animated maps. We may be able to work out some format for this with other developers like the Dungeon Alchemist team in the future. For now the latest development release of Infinite Realms features setting manual walls and lights on vanilla image and video maps. This can be an alternative, but requires manual work...

    I would recommend taking advantage of the VESA holes during planning and final assembly, as they usually are on the same plane to each other and already have threads in them that can hold the weight of the TV - not necessarily on its back, but for lifting the TV out of the box, if the top is later covered by the acrylic. For the VESA holes, it's better to use threaded rod with a nut however, so as not to accidentally screw in a bolt too deep into the TV and break something - the maximum depth can usually be found in the TV's manual or parsed from the length of the VESA bolts provided. My current plan is to make a very short single leg stand that affixes to the VESA mount, so as to still have access to all that tablespace underneath the TV. Not sure how wobbly this might get, but I'm still prototyping.

  • @LordBelakor
    @LordBelakor6 ай бұрын

    @@EliaMarc that is the sterotypical cliché, but it is often correct, lots of germans can't speak in a flow of words in english, partly as they are translating their sentence adhoc from german to english while then also thinking about the change in grammar. The better the english capability gets the smaller the breaks get and it gets more flow. Up to a point where the german pronounciation starts to fade away also. But I love accents in general and love it when fellow germans speak with the typical.german.accent.with.no.flow.at.all.and.very.thick.german.pronounciation. A bit like Werner Herzog :D

  • @EliaMarc
    @EliaMarc6 ай бұрын

    @@LordBelakor Oh I also love Werner Herzogs accent. It's kind of funny that germans can recognize a german accent the most. Even if it's the most subtle accent, germans will flock to the comments and remind the creator that he is in fact german.

An idea for the future could be, using a kinect to make it possible to track the pieces on the board. Then you could add effects like spells, AoE and maybe even ownership of each piece having a player color.

    Ive watched several videos of people who have built their own TV gaming table and it seems like once people have a frame built they run into the issue of getting the screen to be level inside of the frame and dealing with the fact that the back of the TV isnt flat and they always end up having to very carefuly make support pieces of various geometries to hold the TV level and support it at different places on the back of the TV. Wouldn't it be a million times easier to just run some thick, high quality velcro straps across the frame to cradle the TV in the box? The straps would be precisely adjustable and wouldn't care about the geometry of the back of the TV. It would be far easier to adjust each strap as needed than to cut all of the specific pieces of wood to support the TV at the correct height annd angle for each spot where a support is needed, wouldn't it? You could just place the frame upside-down, lay the TV into the frame screen-side down, then tighten the straps down around the back of the TV and then flip the whole thing over. The screen should be flush with the frame at that point I would think. Even if the TV settles a little bit, if you build it right and do the straps in asmart way, you should be able to adjust the straps as needed with the whole thing face up to raise or lower the screen as needed. In the direction the straps run, the TV should be level no matter what.

  • @infiniterealms8479
    @infiniterealms8479 Жыл бұрын

    Seems like a legit alternative! When placing the straps you would just have to take care to not block any ports and ventilation slots. On the other hand building the central support piece was no real issue. Even for total amateurs like us.

  • @extensiblelibrarian

    I ended up using the foam packing blocks (slightly altered) on the top and bottom to fit snugly into the frame and allow the tv to be level. I also fastened it to the back with the vesa mounting screws.
