Just looking at first basemen, Mattingly should get in, but there's at least six other first basemen that should go in before him.

I started as a closer in the shower 2018 for Detroit. In 2021 I won mvp and the cy young coming from the long relief number 1 spot. Winning 17 striking out 330 in 180. Didn't have the saves for reliever of the year Couple years later I was the ace starter. Had no idea someone did something similar in real life 100 wins and 100 saves and the accolades. Big respect to Eck. I'm a fan

Great vid. Giants fan here. The 90's A's greatness was hard on me because the Giants fell short or outright stunk. And, what has happened to the A's is sad because it destroys historical continuity. Booooooooo, John Fisher, boooooooo. You suck!

So, even though Eck’s most memorable moments were in Oakland where he won a cy young and a WS ring…his years in Boston were key to him getting to the necessary counting stats to enter into the HOF. That’s why Eck was a first ballot Hall of Famer, and Lee Smith didn’t get in until the veterans committee voted him him.

As a kid I was on the same flight with him and McGwire on the way to the 1992 All-Star Game and in my #1 most cherished baseball memory managed to get his autograph in the terminal. Absolutely warm, genuine guy. Eck has given half a century of his life to baseball as a player and a commentator, overcoming some personal challenges along the way with great success. He deserves a happy retirement back in California with his grandchildren.

My father was born in Brooklyn and was a lifelong Dodgers fan. He was thrilled when they moved to LA in 1958, as my grandfather had moved the family to LA at the end of the war. I too became a Dodgers fan and my dad took me to my first MLB game at the brand new stadium in 1962. I followed the Dodgers closely for the next several years, especially Sandy. His perfect game was thrown on the day of my fathers’s funeral. I wish my Dad could have seen it.

I read about a Koufax incident that I enjoyed. When in school he approached his tacher and asked to be excused from the next class because he had to be at a ball game. The teacher is reputed to have said "Oh, are you going to the game ?". Sandy's replay was "Yes. I have to pitch".

My buddy growing up is a great nephew a catcher on this team, Sam Agnew, who replaced Owens as catcher early into the game. He had a pretty hilarious career that was highlighted by getting arrested on the field for punching the other manager in the face - the cops drove a paddy wagon on the field and hauled him to jail till his manager put up like $5 for bail.
