    In real life he was a champion karateka winning numerous events including the world heavyweight title at Long Beach Internationals 1971. His dojo partners were also champions, especially Joe Lewis who was also a world champion, first pro fighter champion and first full contact champion....... he could fight....real people too....

    I was born in 1968 in Okinawa. Kadeena Air Force Base. I was just a little late to know about Jim Kelly, I did study under some great Teachers because I had to learn to fight the way those I went to school with in Japan faught. Martial Arts is very different there, more dissaplplined, more techniques that take opponents out quickly. Then the weapon training begins. Basic farmers tools are very effective weapons. A lond stick, a sickle, an ax, a long chain. 2 simple sticks...

    I don’t think Bruce trained with Gordon

  • @AdamRangiaho
    @AdamRangiaho Жыл бұрын

    According to an interview with joe Lewis, Gordon and Bruce both trained Joe together at the same time during the same sessions,… But Bruce didn’t take lessons or train with Gordon directly. Joe Lewis also said in a different interview that he’d taught Bruce some of Gordon’s techniques at the request of Bruce. There’s a famous image of Joe and Bruce from the ‘67 Long Beach Internationals with Joe wearing his O.T. patch being handed a trophy by Bruce. Could have been one of the first meetings of the two of them. Cheers

    Not important but still mabye interesting for one or the other: One of Gordon Doversola's students was Martin Kove, the guy who is known as Sensei John "No Mercy" Kreese from the Karate Kid Saga and today Cobra Kai. Kove earned his black belt in Okinawa-Te Karate under Doversola.

    Funny we have yet to hear a legitimate of somebody beating Bruce Lee either in sparing or in a fight. Just the opposite, he beat the top fighters of that time. Just listen to what Jim Kelly Dan Inosanto and Jesse Glover had to say. The only one I didn’t hear of a sparring match was with Ed Parker.
