Just found this amazing album this month. Since then I've played it many times and really appreciate the talent and love in every note and lyric. Very well done for putting this very personal work out to the world.

I don’t see enough people giving Bob McDill credit for writing such a great song. He wrote more charting hits than anyone in history. I think 140-150 hits.

How songs, certain tastes and even smells can evoke nostalgic memories! This balad by Vince Gill does just that for me. From 2010-11, I was an 'Outside The Wire' (OTW) Convoy truck driver sub contracted to KBR TTM, carrying out logistical work for the US Military while being based out of Joint Base Balad (formerly Camp Anaconda) in Iraq. As an 'Outside The Wire' Convoy trucker, there was quite a 'fair' amount of risk and stress involved and we needed to be clear headed and focused at all times. Crucially, our domestic 'business' needed to be good and 'manageable' to the extent that ones judgement and actions were not impeded during 'OTW' convoy missions that would put the mission at risk. It was not an uncommon scenario amongst OTW convoy truckers that an individual would be stood down from going 'outside the wire' because of such domestic issues. In one instance a fellow trucker had recieved the sad news of spouse unfaithfulness and was advised to 'stand down' from going outside the wire. He spent this period trucking inside the wire in our KBR CRSP yards, being lost in thought for a long while and playing a lot of soulful balads on his CD player. 'Whenever you come around' by Vince Gill was one of those balads that would drift 'soulfuly' from his pod that compelled some of us to support and be there for him during this difficult time. From such experiences we also learned to cherish our relationships at home while being 'over there' P.s. He completed his stint as an 'Outside The Wire' Heavy convoy truck driver and is still happily married to his wife. He is now a grandfather! 😏😊

The solo Vince played in the live performance of "Don't Try this at home" is the best EVER, any genre.
