Really needs a 5-speed manual conversion. These 3-speed autos waste a lot of power.

About 5 or 10hp. This jag suits the auto box better than manual

Hi, I may be wrong but I am sure I had mine on a warm idle running at 650rpm and wshowing 40lbs oil pressure. You're motor appears to be idling a bit fast but the oil pressure is good. Engine sounds sweet and brings back fond memories of when I ran XJ6's as daily transport thirty years ago. I still own an XJ6 4.2 L but it is virtually packed into a small cardboard box. It was totally rotten apart from a few bits. I put the Log Book/V5 owners document in my name and never officially scrapped it. So to this day, technically and legally I have owned that Jaguar 29years and on 29th October 2021 it will be thrity years. How time flies!

The Automatic Enrichment Device was terrible, it made the car unreliable so I would recommend a manual choke conversion every day. I miss my Series 2 Jaguar's. The design is gorgeous!

Can you explain the test? I assume that you are feeling the pipe and if it turns cold then you know a petrol mix is being distributed thru the tube to enrichen the mixture to the cylinders. Is that pretty much the idea? After the engine warms up, the tube should no longer get cold and the rpms should decrease from around 1000 to 650? I am currently restoring a 77 and will be rebuilding the carbs and learning about this choke mechanism.

crazeyspivey Yes, thats how it works. When the T-pipe gets hot the AED is closed.
