Roughest place I ever lived in the flats opposite Ancoats hospitol..I had family and 2 kids and the locals for fun used to put burning paper through the letterboxes in front doors..lots sickos about there in the 70,s as years passed there were no happy memories there we moved to hattersley paradise house council swap .. real people .. ancoats was the pits

A little early for me I think, still remember most of the places here, the maisonettes near Every Street etc. I’m not from Ancoats but next door in the not so hip Miles Platting, makes me laugh when when people think Ancoats is just the New Islington Marina area, it is good seeing the mills put to use rather than being demolished. I was born on Bradford Road but we got moved up to Openshaw Village when they demolished all the Terraced Streets from Bradford Road to Sandal Street, from the Cricketers to the bend. I still went to Corpus Christi though even though I was only 5/6 years old, ,my Mum worked for Speedprint but stopped taking me when they moved to Bradford on the Industrial estate where City’s ground is now, my Mum and Dad didn’t think twice about letting me get the bus back then, not these days? P.S. Loved the video

I think this peaked at number 15 in the Uk singles chart; a couple of records later they scored top 5 with The Eton Rifles, and, it was pretty much number 1 singles from there on in until they broke up in December 1982 - they couldn't get any bigger in the UK at this point, and, I don't think Paul Weller was overly interested in breaking the American market; I believe Setting Sons and Sound Affects had gotten into the American Billboard Album Charts top 100, but, Paul Weller was English to the core, so he felt it was time they split, so he could explore new musical boundaries (with The Style Council as it turned out). Thanks for uploading - great memories.
