I love hardware! I've been building computers since 1991 and read a lot about it since. According to my wife I spent too much money on new hardware. Any suggestions are welcome!

    Hi, how are you? I would like to ask a question about the Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1. I have a monitor where I connect my Nintendo Switch via the HDMI cable, but this monitor does not have speakers, but it does have a 3.5 mm output. If I connect a P2/P2 cable to the monitor output and connect it to the 3.5 mm "Line in" mini-jack on the board and connect an RCA/RCA cable to the RCA output on the board and connect it to the RCA input on my speaker, will it work, will sound come out of the speaker?

    Great vids Anton. I've gone back to watch many of them. Here's a list that I've heard you and many folks say: 1) can I actually hear the difference? (age of ears matter!), 2) some setups have noise / x-talk (rear panel or external helps), 3) latency can creep in (usually onboards), 4) impedance of speakers limits clarity (good speakers need an amp), 5) frequency response ... yea but maybe not at extreme range (again with age of ears). Finally, some folks get really loud about their opinion. Pun intended :) Thanks for admitting your opinion yet also giving test results.

    I've read that this is one of those cards really needs to be hooked up to an external stereo or receiver via digital coax or phono/RCA audio cables (analog) to shine. There is just plain something going on within the engineering of this card that causes it to flunk a lot of sound quality testing and nobody knows why. *Actually its because Asus cheaped out on the DAC, but that's just what I've read when people compare it to its predecessor* I like the card quite a bit, but I don't run anything more than stereo setups and it also has AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL official driver support from Asus (or did). A lot of the bad results are due to a driver bug that Asus never fixed either. Unidrivers fixes the card, but I have yet to find anything that fixes the *banshee shriek* which is quite literally the worst thing lying in wait for a unaware listener.

    I have the original Sound Blaster Audigy, and the Audigy 2. The Audigy 2 has drivers for Windows Millenium, and XP; but, not for Windows 98 from Creative. Hunting on the Internet I did find a driver for Windows 98 eventually; but, not from Creative. The Audigy 2 ZS, Creative got carried away with the driver as far as I am concerned, so I trashed it.

    this is the greatest consumer level PC audio card of all time. this was the turning point where $99 could get you near pro-level quality, it holds up good even today. I had this (and still have the card running on Debian 12) back then with a Mackie 1202 vlz-pro, a pair of Alesis Monitor One for near fields, a pair of JBL L56 for mid-fields, and an NAD power amp. Ran FL and WinAmp, Cubase and Nuendo with Waves plugins. Great sounds, amazing times.

    I appreciate this review of Xfi. Creative was including great software too, like Cakewalk and Sound Forge, with their Sound Blaster Live series. You could also connect the card to an expansion dock for better access on the front of the computer. So, which one was better at 24bits, the Xfi series or the Live series? Or, which one Sounded better?

    Been using Trust GXT 450 Blizz now for 2 year and its the best headset that i have ever used even better than the Logitech G733. (used it for a while in work) The quality of the headset is really good and durable before 450, i used GXT 340 that i bought in 2013 and that one still works, both can be used from 50% volume as speakers if needed to i usually use it at 2-6% while playing or watching videos and the audio is so clear in every game i can hear footsteps that my friend cant even hear. I have nothing negative about this headphone or trust. I always hear and see bad stuff talked about trust and everyone says that its terrible, all of my peripherals are from trust and some of these i have been actively been using for almost 7-10 years now, with out anything breaking or having problems.

    Nice one Anton! It's rare to see measurable differences nowadays, unless you pick up the extremely cheap "dollar store" cables. At a certain point of reasonable quality (this is not all that expensive), improvements halt almost completely and you get drastically diminishing returns. For speaker cable, I still just get thick gauge copper electrical wire in bulk at Home Depot (a hardware store chain in North America), and it works rather well. For very long runs of very low level signal level (PC to amp, or DAC to amp for example), I use balanced cables to cancel out any noise that may have been picked up along the run. And most of all, I try ensure my amps are on well grounded power circuits (which can eliminate a lot of strange noise and hum), and that they are on the same ground loop as the signal source being amplified. Motherboard EMI (that sizzling sound when you move a mouse for example) is still a thing, but external DACs help, and even reasonably well built internal audio cards do a lot better nowadays than they used to. Motherboards themselves seem a lot less noisy in general (high end video cards too). Cheers!

    I did see a test in the early days of HDMI. Going back on what I already said, some cables were not well made. And the 1's where weak and the 0's where weak too. Lets be fair PERFECT digital attunation is very hard to do. So both sides can work with some error corrections in the chips. But, some cables were so bad in those early days that they were actually bad. Nowadays? Again. With stricter standards, the chance of finding a bad HDMI cable is very low.

    @@AntonsHardware Hello, I'm still watching your videos, but after purchasing the Creative G6, I no longer need a better quality DAC, and I've stopped being interested in audio because what I have fully satisfies me. Regarding the cable, I'll add that initially with the Creative G6, I used a cable from the market, but unfortunately, it slowed down the sound, and there were problems. I decided to buy a used AudioQuest Pearl as a replacement, and although it wasn't cheap, the cable is of very good quality. The gold on the ends is thicker than in other cables, and the plug holds very firmly in the socket. In my opinion, the sound itself is also better, stronger, and the soundstage has improved. Now I can hear more clearly what is on the left and what is on the right (but maybe this is a placebo effect), but I still think it was worth it. When it comes to cables, I recommend buying OFC copper cables. The type of insulation is also important in a cable; the better, the better. The length of the cable is also important; I recommend not exceeding 1.8m, but ideally 1.5m, and generally, the shorter, the better. It's great that you're still making these videos! There aren't many materials of this type on KZread.

    Better getting thicker silver cables! :D

  • @MikeleKonstantyFiedorowiczIV
    @MikeleKonstantyFiedorowiczIV29 күн бұрын

    @@AntonsHardware Silver cables also make sense, but I tend to focus only on copper, of course due to its lower cost and greater durability against twisting. Personally, instead of silver cable, I recommend investing in a motherboard with good components, with a good protective shield for USB ports in the form of radiators, as well as other components. Changing the motherboard slightly improved the sound quality for me. It's also worth buying a high-quality power supply. Generally, in audio, everything should be of at least good quality because the weakest element of the setup can significantly lower the quality of other components. It's true for everything, but in audio, it's particularly noticeable.

    One of your complaints about this sound card is that it may not work well if connected to usb 3.0. That's what the terratec site actually says. I admit that it is strange and even funny. But, apart from the fact that you have conveyed here what Terratec stated in the specifications (which you can always read on their website), I am wondering if you have tried and tested how this card works when connected to usb 3.0? And did it work well for you then or not? What did your testing on usb 3.0 show, what was the result? In particular, I've been using this card for about a year and always on 3.0, I haven't had any problems in operation. That's why I'm wondering if you tested on 3.0 and if you had any problems with it then? And if so - what kind?
