Still hard to believe Jeff Beck isn't here in 2024. I'm not a huge fan of people covering the beatles but this is in a class all by itself.

Albuquerque had a decent live music scene in the '70s. Planets would usually be at Ned's, and other bars like Alfalfa's on Lomas and Okie's by UNM would bring in good bands from out of town. Albuquerque produced the Wumblies, who had a great drummer (Randy Castillo) who went on to play with Ozzie. The Buffalino scene (1984) they're describing in this video sounds plastic / dull. ... and "America's Liverpool?" =D LOL

What an honor it was to play with these guys, all great friends and compatriots whom I had known since high school. We had all come through the sixties as rock band guys, and at the time of this recording we were experimenting with the newer, more expansive jazz/rock format. This tune is so expansive and open, giving lots of room for lots of improvisation/innovative thought. This was a group of very dedicated and thoughtful musicians, and the Wet Sox was a unique and powerful ensemble. Steve is the driver of this one, for sure, but what a wonderful memory to relive....It was a last minute thing that I would get to sit in, but I clearly remember how powerful that groove was, and how smoothly the group moved from soloist to soloist. The themes, though so very 1980's, still feel pretty fresh today. I still play with Waldo, and occasionally with Arnold, but sadly Steve is gone. Thanks, John for being there and saving so much of our music scene in those days.
