Billy Gibbons has one of the greatest tones/phrasing of any guitarist in history; he has the ability to make a three piece band sound like an orchestra section...it is no wonder that he was one of Hendrix's favorites.

Nasty Dogs is best ZZ song ever and this live version is beyond killer. It’s unholy !!
“Nasty Dogs and Funky Kings” is the reason I bought “Fandango” so many years ago. This is really a treat! What a performance!
Dusty's bass is so clear to hear in this video.
As obsessed as I am with Gibbons - I have to take my hat off to Beard and Hill. They just set up the most massive groove that any guitarist would be in heaven to play over. Beard is Zen-like in his control - and Dusty Hill......Man - that little dwarf dude is like Ghimli out of Lord of the Rings - utterly reliable, driving, awesome voice and WTF IS THAT SOUND! How does he sound so powerful and clear? Fingers like Steel Vises. You never feel the bottom drop out when the guitar goes to lead - the Bass just FILLS the sound spectrum.

Nothing better than pre-Eliminator ZZ Top. Nothing. No dispute. These Rockpalast videos are pure gold.
Dusty's bass tone is absolutely stunning. Holding it down nice and nasty. Great jam band, always and forever.
My first Rock Concert was Z Z TOP's Texas World Wide Tour, in 1976, at the Met Center in Bloomington, Minnesota. I was 14. I discovered the band on my brothers 8 track tapes, listening to the First Album, and Rio Grande Mud in the early 70's, and I have been listening now for 47 years. I Love this band's 70's music, more than words can possibly express. THANK YOU‼️🙏 Z Z TOP.
Jesus, when I was a kid I knew Lagrange, a few other hits. For years I've listend so much rock, blues, rock n'roll, metal, jazz, from the mainstream to the indies, from Zappa and Beefheart to Canned Heat and Lightnin' Hopkins, gone to jazz, classical... Listening to a LOT of great musicians without looking back at the ZZ Tops, thinking it was a good blues rock/rock band but didn't feel like listening deeper. And tonight I stumbled upon an interview of Gibbons and thougt "oh I only know the great classics but how where they live?" And oh, MAMA! So much to say, I almost have tears in my eyes discovering this live show. Pure class, fantastic sound, insane licks, arrangements... I'm so grateful. Sometimes you skip the basics only to be amazed at... well, 36 years old!

Any ZZ top concert I have been to has been one of the best concerts I've ever heard.I don't know if it's cuz I got lucky and I just happened to see them when they were having an "on" night every single time I went, I suspect more it's just the continuity of their constant touring and playing together that has made them such a tight unit that always sounds good.I'm sure you know that it's not easy for a guitar player to hold together a three-piece and make it sound good constantly. You have to work overtime and You got to have a special something to pull that off.Maybe Dusty Hill is that special something Sprinkled on top of Billy's playing.

@@middlebrad Tennessee and Texas have a shared history that goes back 200 years. I don't want to really spend the time here going into it. Suffice it to say, many of Texas' first heroes were from Tennessee. Tennessee sent "Volunteers" (more than many other states) to help win Texas' independence from Mexico. Many Texas regiments fought ferociously in the Army of Tennessee during the War between the States. The most decorated soldier of WW1 was a Tennessean. The most decorated soldier of WW2 was a Texan. We share alot of the same values and mores and tend to have the same outlook on life. I really think if you want more, consult history-because this relationship between TN & TX is not my own opinion. Thank you for your interest though

In the zone the way they used to play through the 70s was as this is pure KILLER INSTINCT ...
👍 Time keeps on ticking... Going through a box of old ticket stubs not long ago. My first rock concert: May 19, 1973 East Tennessee State University (lol yeah, I'm old, but still above the dirt...) Rory Gallagher - ZZ Top 4 bucks It was about two months before Tres Hombres came out. (Dusty Hill's 24th birthday, I came to find out on his passing) It was Festival Seating and I managed to get about 15 feet from mic center. Rory Gallagher was pure fire right out of the gate, and his band was phenomenal. (particularly Lou Martin on his electric piano) Rory was amazing to see play and I think that he had as much fun as anyone. Then, Billy Gibbons and the boys came out. Back when they were the most badass blues rock band that ever was. Straw hats, jeans, no beards (but Frank. lol), and BG in a white tshirt w/ pack of Marlboros rolled up in the sleeve(lol). Needless to say, Rory and Billy made a big impression on a 16 yr old. Blues rock, slide guitar nut ever since. RIP Rory, Rod, Lou, & Dusty. Thank You! Keep Rockin' Billy, Frank, & Gerry
This guys can really play the hell out of their instruments when they want to. Killer versions!
