I backed the second Kickstarter but the Next had, well, not completely gone from my thoughts but had gone to the back of my mind. After watching your video about the ZX Touch, I ordered one of those. When my Next came the other day, I thought it was the Touch. When I opened the box, I could not believe what was in front of me. Later that same day, another delivery this time it was the Touch! Talk about all your Christmas's coming at once!

Hah - yes - a bit like buses, nothing turns up then everything at once. I am glad the cost of the Next was a couple of years ago so the impact was not noticed for all the new things I keep buying. I will do more Next games on the channel and when the ZX Touch gets a firmware update, I'll do another one of those as well.

The KS2 Next has the Raspberry Pi Zero built in for loading .TAP files from the SD Card directly where you also have the option to load fast (default) or load slow to load in real time with all the loading noise glory. No need for that external tape loader, though seeing the percentage is handy.

So true - but the tape loader was shown to demonstrate that external tapes do work and some people may have content they want to load in that way from one of the newer physical releases that do come out. That external drive tho was so much fun just to watch the percentages - I got that for my physical Spectrum but had to try it on the Next as I know they spent a good time on tape loader funtionality.

Wow, tears on my eyes, that unboxing transported me to 1982/3 (not sure exactly which year it was) when my brother and I got the ZX48k for Christmas I already know which my xmas '24 present will be

We were not English speakers and we thought the key SPACE at bottom right was there to play invaders and other space games 😊

I like that 256-colour mode and video, it's like VGA all over again! Early 90's nostalgia.

I too have a KS2 Next - It will be my Christmas present, was good to see you going through basic use of the Next as although it's been 4 years since i ordered it, I haven't researched anything about how to use the Next. I will need to watch some more Next videos on KZread to get me clued up! :)

Yeah this one absolutely would look perfect on a shelf in a shop. Infact, it's better than most packaging I've seen and matches Apples.

Are all these games your own collection from elsewhere added to your card? It looks from the video like they are already on there- but presumably not?

It's a mixture - the Spectrum Next ones are a combination of what was on the first SD card from Issue 1, plus what I have added and brought. You can see some of those on the Unboxing Nostilga 15 video that comes out on Dec 31st. The folders with the classic games were downloaded and collected over the years. The classic games for the orignial 48K and 128K and pretty minimal on the card.

I LOVE my Spectrum. Other computers had better graphics, sound and keyboard, but the Spectrum is special. Funny how there isn't a Commodore 64, BBC Micro, or Atari Next. I would love to buy a Next, but WHY? My PC is more powerful, better graphics, sound and better built, and my original spectrum was MILES easier to program, so again, WHY?
