Electric Dreams Software was a UK-based video game publisher established in 1985 by Activision and run by Rod Cousens and Paul Cooper formerly of Quicksilva . The company published video games for the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC and the Atari 8-bit family of computers between 1985 and 1989, becoming one of the top eight UK software houses by 1987.
In late 1986, the label was adapted by the American division to publish titles outside of England for the American market.
Software Studios
The publisher's in-house video game developer was Software Studios, set up in April 1986 and run by John Dean and Dave Cummings. Software Studios also handled Activision's products marketed in countries outside the United States. The concept behind this team was to pool resources and ideas between all Electric Dreams projects, but they were also directly responsible for two film tie-in licenses, Aliens: The Computer Game (1986) and Big Trouble in Little China.
The company's initial releases were Riddler's Den and I, Of the Mask.

R-Type is the best arcade conversion on the Spectrum. A phenomenal achievement!

Some great games here. Hijack was given away free on a magazine tape and I loved it. Never knew what I was doing, just enjoyed exploring the building! R-Type is obviously a Speccy classic.

There are some really great games in there. R-type and Karnov are excellent. They really knew how to make the most out of the Speccy.

I still consider ZX version of R-Type to the best of all. I love it and play it to this day.

I remember most of these games, even bought some for my then owned ZX Spectrum+. Especially played Aliens a lot used to even map it out on graph paper. How video games has changed over the decades. Video games just auto map these days.

I forgot how atrocious ZX Spectrum sound could be: don't get me wrong - there were game with good sound and great intro-music ("Jet Set Willy" & "Sabre Wulf" spring to mind), but when I mentally compare ZX Spectum game sounds to modern PC/Console sounds, WE ARE TRULY SPOILT!

@@MrYossarianuk I recall wanting a C64 - the graphics and sound were well above the ZX Spectrum - but so was the price: which was why I couldn't afford one. :o(
