I note that, correctly, you stack something like the best 50% to 75% of the images. A beginner might imagine that only the very best 5% or 10% should be stacked. But in fact, when you stack a large number of randomly blurred images, you get an image whose blur is Gaussian and can be undone by wavelet processing. (Random variations add up to Gaussian variation.) This bit of mathematics is not as widely known as it should be.

The 585s do quite well on deep sky, all things considered.

I’ve definitely used my 585mc for Deep Sky and I have to say it’s very impressive.

I use my 585mc (full 4K resolution) with Sharpcap pro and a beefy laptop on lunar imaging. For dso’s I use asiair plus. Storage on the asiair is limited for serious 4K video, that’s why you can only shoot in 1080p.

I love this camera, I made several deer-sky images (not planetary) and it is astonishing what this thing is able to do. I made a video with examples at the end.

The ST4 cable is still necessary for lots of peeps out there struggling with their star trackers and I bet theyre grateful its included. One less thing to buy. Or is there a way to guide with the star adventurer via usb?

I've been considering to buy this one for short exposure times on bright DSOs. Would you review it for DSOs? Luke has a review on this sensor however he uses a RASA which is not everyone's reality. Thanks :) CS

It’s great for DSO too! Especially now it’s galaxy season.

What is the back focus spec? It’s not mention in the manual. The sensor is 6.5mm behind the camera case edge. Thanks

Im considering this camera for lunar/planetary and some deep sky with my 12" LX200 ( 3048mm Focal Length) will this be a good match for under $500

I love the ASIAir, but it is limited by the hardware when it comes to lucky imaging. I have used ASIAir for both solar and planetary, but you will get much better frame rates with a PC with faster bus speeds. I switched to a MeLE Quieter3Q Mini PC with a nvme m.2 ssd upgrade, and the frame rate of the camera jumped to the full spec'ed frame rate at full resolution. I still use the ASIAir for deep sky objects, but I have stopped using it for planetary and solar imaging.

That's also what I'm considering doing, faster fps with a computer, the newest ASIAir is supposed to be much faster for lucky imaging but I haven't tried it

I’ve got this camera hoping to try planets and moon and dabble with some DSO before I buy a cooked camera. I have an C8 with AVXmount and ASIAir controlling the camera and mount. Running ASIAir app V2.1.1-10.74. I’m having a frustrating time getting this camera, scope and mount to work with the ASIAir. The GO To is unreliable. Sometimes it can’t find the object, it won’t plate solve, it can’t center it goes off on a wild goose chase to where I have to turn off the power. I’ve tried it with the 6.3 focal reducer with the camera 105mm back focus. I have not been able to image any DSO since owning the ASIAir in October. Maybe the sensor is too small and focal length to long. I’ve tried changing the Bin to 2, changing gain, exposure. ASIAir just doesn’t work with a C8 and this camera.

You have a C8 on an AVX mount using the the ASi585MC? Are you using the 585 with a 6.3 focal reducer? You are saying coming out of PA if you want to locate 6 DSO targets your ASIAir Plus will go to each target and center them without failing? You can also set up every night and be able to do this? I can't get ASIAir to locate and center targets at all. I'm at a stand still now trying to get it to work with my Nikon D5100 with an APS-C sensor. I figured this large sensor ASIAir would work as advertised. I've adjusted camera settings, I insure PA final error is 0° 0' XX". I've tried with various ISO, exposure, Bin settings. I'm not sure why I'm having such difficulties. Once in a while it will work and I can test with 5 or 6 objects and they are found and centered. The next night ASIAir can't find its way out of a paper bag. Thanks

ZWO suggested after PA slew away from the NCP to perform a plate solve and sync to mount. I also slewed to the opposite cardinal direction and performed an addition plate solve and sync to mount. With the D5100 that last two evening sessions have been successful finding and centering multiple targets. If ZWO had up to date documentation with this procedure it would’ve saved me a lot of frustration. But I did learn something about plate solving in my search to understand the problem.

I had problems til I figured out turn on sequence. For me the 1st step is most important. Turn mount on 1st and do 1 star alignment, after that go home through the HC. Turn on asiair and go through rest of set up on the asiair.
