This video was very informative. I did not know Mint had gone woke. I'll be recommending only Zorin from now on. I love it on my old Mac Pro.

thinking of ditching Windows and going with Zorin. my only concern is with my current peripherals (keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc) and if there will be compatibility issues.

I switched. Zorin has a great look. The easiest thing so far was games. No Mans Sky works great. I get asked for password alot for things I shouldn't be and for each and every operation. I don't like this looking for solution. Some apps are janky, don't work, or charge like $10...monthly... And there are great apps as well. I'm going to keep going with it. I dual boot so if I need Windows I still can.

(I get asked for password alot for things),is a security feature thats prevents hackers and virus/spyware and randsomware ect to attack or alter your system! You can turn this of but i don't recommend doing this!Just ignore the apps that cost a monthly fee,you don't need those anyway, there are alway's free options out there!Tnx for the comment and Cheers

When you do terminal I think it's on a timeout. So periodically. Applying it to GUI is different, things fail without asking, or ask over and over depending. Like the software store going to get a bunch of apps or try some out. Sometimes it asks twice. A pin would be better, a timeout, something else. More options to apply security like how often to ask... Anyways, appreciate the video and calling out the BS at the end.

Let’s be honest there is no windows alternative mainly due to software compatibility and hardware driver support. For example, none of the Adobe software works on Linus and you will never get the latest driver update from Nvidia (maybe it is being worked on by somebody, I don’t know). You can have an OS that looks like windows but if you need software more than typical office stuff you need to do your research before converting. The only good thing about Linus is it works on older computers so you don’t have to throw them away. If in doubt, stick with Windows.

it's Linux not Linus. And you are right adobe stuff won't work. But new nvidia drivers for linux come out all the time, I'm not sure where you get your information from. I'm content with gimp for photo editing and kdenlive for video, but not everyone is. I always recommend people to make a bootable linux USB stick and boot from it and play around. You don't have to install it, but you get a bit of an idea if you might like it or not.

Yes there are some (payed)programs that don´t work, but there are linux alternatives for those programs!I have a windows PC also because there are games and plugins, ect that i use for productions/reviews that realy need windows! But for most people linux haves all they ever need!So powerusers are sometimes bound to windows and mac or even unix! And Linus is the guy from the youtube channel LTT,you know, the one with the high pitch voice!lol,Cheers

God please no. Never EVER recommend Zorin. It's always based off of a old ubuntu build, any third party application will look OUT OF PLACE. And they have paid tiers locking features behind paywalls. A actual windows replacement would be things like Kubuntu, linux mint, or if you're more advanced, Garuda linux (KDE) / Manjaro. Just no. Zorin is the poorest choice when their are way better desktop environments.

Geez I didn't realize that Zorin was based on ubuntu 22 still, thats pretty bad. A lot of people who are moving to linux are wanting to game and using a distro that is based on an ubuntu that old means you miss out on so many performance improvements and the such. I've seen many many reddit posts from mostly mint users (which iirc is also still ubuntu 22) saying that games dont work right, and the culprit is always out of date packages and kernel, zorin has this same issue. I wouldn't mind paying once for a linux distro, but zorin doesn't offer anything that puts it above other distros with the paid tier, and instead the free version is slightly gutted compared to other distros. My garuda installation is far more capable than zorin and it was free, so yeah agreed on all points

Just as debian is also a old linux build, zorin is based on a old build for stability! If you run the latest linux version you will run into alot of bugs! That´s the problem with the latest software so if you wanna be a Beta tester go and run the latest linux OS but if you want stability you have to run older bugfree linux just as debian & redhat does for enterprise use for the pro´s out there! The paid tiers are just for extra apps and features but if you know how to install anyting in linux this is no problem at all,It´s just like donating for future development of Zorin!Notting to bad on there part!Tnx for your nice comment and Cheers

@@31LR176 LTS kernels and stable releases are fine, but zorin is running a very old stable version. Debian bookworm is a stable non rolling distro and the most recent version 12.5 came out in February, with the base 12.0 coming out in june 2023. Zorin on the other hand is based on ubuntu 22 with a release date in 2022. As far as I can tell, zorin is running an old 5.x kernel that will be lacking support for numerous devices and features. The newest AMD cards will most likely have issues on such an old kernel, and that's not a complicated power user request for one's gpu to be plug and play. Linux development the past 5ish years has moved so fast that running such out of date software puts you at an unneeded disadvantage that imo it shouldn't be recommended.
