Man I love these zoom in videos by the ESA. They are so mesmerizing. I feel like I am actually looking at these things through a telescope. Just seeing Hubble pictures doesnt do it justice. This gives you a perspective of scale of what you are looking at.

Those of us into astronomy have always had that perspective. You look at the sky, then use a scope and a bigger scope and keep seeing things you couldn't see before. Saturn is a great example: you can see it in the sky as a yellowish star, then with a scope you can see its rings. Wow, how the first people with telescopes must have marveled.

I totally agree. I want to memorize true locations of objects so it's not just looking at pretty pictures but knowing where they are located in the sky, so I could look up in the sky and point to it and say "right about there. That's where it is!" This video doesn't help with that. It is not showing you the true location. Obviously zoomed out I can see the Milky way. I see the brighter region and I know that will be sagittarius. Unfortunately I couldn't make out any constellations. I couldn't see the teapot asterism. I couldn't see scorpius. Looks to me like they edited out certain structures because they wanted you to have the dramatic central part of the Galaxy which is all lit instead of having the true location which is not nearly as interesting. I'll watch it again and see if I can spot anything familiar to tell me the location. Edit: looking up its location. It's right next to Zeta Tauri. This would be the end star in the southern Horn of the Bull. Or you might say the next brightest star above Orion's head. Actually Orion doesn't seem to have a head. The Headless Hunter. So above where Orion's head should be, there is a slightly brighter star than the others in the area. That is Zeta Tauri. The tip of the left Horn of Taurus. The Southern horn. Just on the other side of Zeta Tauri is the Crab nebula. No. No. No. It occurs to me that the video from NASA is showing it within the band of the Milky way. Zooming into the Milky way. Although the horns of Taurus extend quite a distance they are nowhere near the Milky Way band. Taurus is one of the zodiacal constellations which run perpendicular to the Milky Way band. Sagittarius and Scorpius are the only two zodiac constellations that are near the Milky Way band. Why on Earth did NASA show The Crab nebula in the Milky Way band? I expected this video to be an actual representation of the true location. I am extremely outraged. Beautiful as this video is. They have missed an opportunity to create the actual accurate representation. In which case the zoomed out view would have showed Orion and Taurus. And Auriga. And the Crab nebula is located between those three. Nowhere near the Milky Way band. So I assume they misrepresented the true location for dramatic effect? I am extremely disappointed! No wonder nothing looked right to me. It's fake! There's no excuse for that when some people are accusing NASA of CGI and it's all fake and space isn't real. Then why on Earth would NASA not keep it accurate? The Crab nebula is not in the Milky Way band! Edit: I was wrong. Taurus dips its horns in the Milky Way so it is alongside the Milky Way band. The picture at the beginning of this video is not a picture of Taurus. If it's zooming in on Crab nebula which is at the tip of one of the horns of Taurus then why doesn't the video start showing the constellation Taurus. Doesn't anyone agree with me that is a photo of Sagittarius and Scorpius at the start of the video? But the constellations have been removed? In fact there are no recognizable constellations. Just recognizable structures, obviously the central part of the Milky Way band. Doesn't make sense. Why would someone works so hard editing out the constellations and using the wrong part of the sky to zoom in. Why not just find a good photo of the true location of the deep sky object and zoom in from there.

@@Marcell_Kovacs Yes but it's nowhere near that part of the Milky Way shown in this video. I reread my post. I was incorrect saying Taurus was not near the Milky Way band. The video starts showing long exposure stock photo of the center of the Galaxy. Go back and look very closely. The structures are undeniable. That is the brightness of the Sagittarius region. Structures are quite familiar. And yet they erased the familiar constellations from that photo. I'm looking at familiar structures and saying where is Scorpius where is Sagittarius? Why did they use this photo. Why didn't they simply use the region of the sky that you mentioned where the horns of Taurus actually dip into the Milky Way band....on the entire opposite side of the sky and out of view. Zooms in to show a close-up of the Crab nebula but that is not the true location. The point is some of us would like it to show the actual position in a field of constellations to show where is this particular deep-sky objects in the night sky. Others just want to see a pretty video and they have no concern about memorizing star maps or understanding the exact location of the deep sky objects. I simply thought that it was a waste of their energies creating a video which is not an exact representation of the true location of The Crab nebula. Why put so much effort into these zoom videos and not make them accurate?

The camera is traveling at 130 light-years/second or about 4 billion time the speed of light. Interstellar space is vast. And that's just inside our milky way. Distances between galaxies on average is 10-20 times the avg diameter of galaxies. Since no spacecraft hasn't yet reached the interstellar space, we don't even know if we are inside a nebula...like we could be inside a nebula to a distant observer. There's lil chance that someone from inside that nebula is looking right at us thinking space is beautiful and they're alone. Blows my freaking mind.

SaraP789 this is not radio wave telescope(using light waves to predict how it would look like), this is image taken from camera and such camera don't exist ! they lie to people about their fakes researches, space traveler machines, landing on comets, images from pluto bla bla and bla bla and god knows on what technology and for what purpose they spend all the money they get from people. probably on controlling human brain. (if u want deeper explanation i'm always free for contact and i have a lot to say, we are living in a modern enslavement era)

Tianguanke Star (No.: SN 1054) is a supernova discovered in the constellation Taurus in 1054. Ancient Chinese and Arab astronomers have left detailed records of this star in history books. Because the star suddenly appeared near Tianguan star (ζ Taurus), it was named Tianguan guest star.

Wish there were no war but love to see all nations come together to build space craft to study and god forbid find a planet such as ours, what gets me about the whole space is we belive a start and Finnish, piont A to piont B. No one can explain whats beyond comprehension the end of space and whats after that. Mind boggling to say the least, I'm looking forward to see this new technologies telescope Ben put together thats 100 times more powerful then the one we have today. Wow

the latter. you could hypothetically do the same thing with a real telescope continuously zooming in but the images would be very dull. space isn't very bright, and without editing it's hard to see details

Such sights seen in ancient times, no damned street light, city lights. A few places where I camped miles from any lights, the night sky bright with wonders. Robbed of these sights because of night activities people do, and crime. It's a crime to miss out on the beauty outside our world.
