Zoom Super Fluke Rigging Tips for Saltwater Flats Fishing

This video shows rigging tips for a Zoom Super Fluke to catch snook, redfish, and trout on saltwater flats. We'll discuss important topics like how to select the best pack of super flukes at the store along with rigging tips including what type of hook to use.
Best of all, this quick video discusses the importance of properly rigging the zoom super fluke… a hook that is even slightly off center will worsen its action underwater, so re-rig the jerk bait if the hook is not coming out of the very top of the bait.
The hook used in this video was a 3/0 hook called TwistLock made by Owner with a 1/16 oz weight on the hook shank… I find that these types of hooks provide the best and most consistent action.

    @Paragon Fishing - Thanks for leaving the comment, and great question! For best results, I've found that doing quick/short twitching action with the rod tip generates that most strikes. Quicker during summer months and very slow during cold snaps. Let us know if you have any other questions. Fish On!

    The extra holes made while rigging kinda weakens an already soft plastic bait. We like to use a very fine point magic marker and make a dot exactly center on the fluke where the hook will go in. Same idea here but instead of a guess with a finger or thumb use a small magic marker.

    Hey Melinda, thanks for leaving a comment. Yes, these Zoom jerk baits are a great for both anglers who go after gamefish in fresh or salt water. I started using them on the saltwater flats, but now it's my favorite bait to use when bass fishing too... they can be very weedless by simply burying the tip of the hook into the soft plastic body when fishing heavy cover.

    my bass rod is medium heavy and the lure wt. is 1/4-1 oz, do you think i could put a 1/2 oz worm sinker with a the same lure thats 5" long without the weight of the sinker and lure being over 1 oz?

    Have you tried Zman PogyZ, PaddlerZ any?

  • @Saltstrong

    @Saltstrong

    ***** Yes, I have tried some Z-man baits (Jerk Shadz and Minnowz)... both were effective. I personally prefer Gulps in most situations though because they seem to get more strikes (only downfall on Gulps is that junk fish tear them up), but the Z-man baits are good to have on hand because they are very strong.

    Yeah tried them b/c of course made in USA just like DOA, which I give my support to first. Caught my first trout, redfish, snook, black grouper, flounder, smorgasbord of fish on DOA lures. But I also like Zoom baits for bass, Zoom jerk baits work on saltwater fish to. Heard Gulp! will catch you fish. And pinfish from your video to have as live bait. Pieces of it. Rather catch them on my own than buy them. Pinfish in 3-4 feet flats grass to catch them right?

    Does it matter what color the flukes are

  • @Saltstrong

    @Saltstrong

    Color does matter, but not nearly as much as the action it has in the water... so spend more time making sure that the retrieve style is looking good than trying to find the perfect color.

    Just to confirm - Fluke is a jerk bait. You mentioned to use a loop knot. Is that correct? A loop knot would prevent it from jerking. My understanding is that we should instead use a direct tie.

  • @Saltstrong

    @Saltstrong

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes, a loop knot should be used for lures like jerk baits because the allow the lure more freedom of motion. Here's our favorite of all the loop knots we've tested out so far: www.saltstrong.com/articles/non-slip-loop-knot/

  • @Saltstrong

    @Saltstrong

    Absolutely! These Zoom super flukes are my favorite lures for targeting bass... they're especially effective when fishing heavy cover because they can be rigged weedless by embedding the tip of the hook into the soft plastic. Tight Lines!

    Salt Strong do you have a video on how to rig them with a worm hook cause I keep accidentally tearing them when I do a Texas rig. Could these work with trout if not what do you recommend?

  • @Saltstrong

    @Saltstrong

    I used these super flukes on worm hooks for many years, and they catch way more fish with the weighted hooks shown in this video. So I highly recommend not even messing with the worm hooks with these baits.

    They are tough to find. Bass Pro typically carries them. And if you happen to be in Tampa, then I highly recommend Southeastern Tackle Liquidators for finding these hooks for rigging super flukes.
