Thanks for the tip about closing other applications. I'm having trouble sharing music as a host, twice now I've hosted and only half the group can hear it. I use a bluetooth UE Megaboom speaker which I think has an inbuilt mic, so I'm wondering if this is interfering with the sound, but I don't get why it works perfectly for half the group? One thing I seem to have to do when I finish with music through Bluetooth speaker is turn it off and revert to the computer's one so that my mic works and I can talk to people. Any ideas gratefully received.

Your tutorial was better than most out there as so many people repeat the hundreds of other videos out there. I am still having issues, as my microphone stopped working in Zoom. I have a Rode NT1 with an AI1 interface and have been using it for months. It works fine for recording in Audacity. I have weekly Zoom meetings and have had no issues until this week. Last week, I was away from my laptop, so I used my Android for the call. Now My Zoom will not detect my microphone. Could it be related to using my phone for the last meeting? I cannot figure this out and have tried all the steps you and others have mentioned. BTW. my headphones are plugged into the same interface as the mic and they are working fine.

Great video! Very informative. I've had 2 jobs so far on zoom and ive hated it. First job, 2 of the speakers had echo at times but they couldn't hear it, but 3rd speaker and i could. Im not sure why. Second job, 3 speakers, and i could hear 2 fine but the other speaker's audio wasn't great. It sounded like audio was cutting in and out. I did notice one speaker's box was highlighting but he wasn't speaking. It was his keyboard. So is this why the audio on person actually speaking was cutting in and out? At this point im not sure if it's my computer or on someone else's end. Do you have any advice?

  • @seensoughtsold

    @seensoughtsold

    4 жыл бұрын

Hey Christina, Since we all have different computers, laptops, phones, etc, it is hard to say specifically what the issue could be. If the person was not talking but the box was highlighted, then they could have a super sensitive microphone, which was picking up sound from them typing on the keyboard or other background noise that was loud enough that the microphone sensed the sound. Another thinks to keep in mind, that we all have different internet speeds. My speed may be super slow and yours is super fast. The person with slower internet could have the sound cutting in and out as their internet bandwidth (speed) goes up and down. If that happens you can ask that person to turn OFF their video or trying to call in on the phone. The video is cool to see people's faces but it can be distracting when people freeze and their sound is cutting in and out. If the quality of the call is suffering, try having people turn their videos off and see if that helps. There are also other platforms that are free right now (CoronaVirus-19 time): Microsoft Teams, Lifesize, and Google Hangouts (if you use Google for most organizations that use Google Suites). Sorry, I can't help more with a definitive answer. If all else fails, you can reach out to Zoom support, which are online with chat support, which I like too.

Every time I run a meeting after 20 minutes or so I get this "your speaker is not working check connection or use different speaker" and it slows down, starts to break and either after a moment it comes back or we need to reconnect. • @seensoughtsold

That is strange Aleksandra. Is this your computers speaker or an external speaker? Have you tried a meeting with just headphones? Make sure you use headphones that have a microphone and change the sound source in Zoom to use your headphones, NOT your computers speaker and microphone. I have the instructions on how to do this in Nirvana Yoga's question in the comments. I would like you to try it with headphones only to see if we can isolate the problem to your computer's speaker.

How true. Zoom expects you to have headset (phone and mic) on. If others can't hear you, simply use one (with the mic turned on). Otherwise set Zoom to use the system mic to be configured by clicking the up arrow in the mute/unmute button. Case is more applicable for desktop, MS Surface, I think.

If the audio test is not working, you most likely have a hardware issue. You can resolve your issue by using headphones with a microphone or an external microphone. Just don't forget to tell Zoom to use your headphones or external microphone as your new audio source. Otherwise Zoom will try to use your computers microphone by default. Also, whenever there is a software update, you may have to change that setting again to use the headphones or external microphone. Sometimes those updates makes things a bit wonky all over again.🤪

Sometimes another application can be holding your microphone, speaker or camera hostage. This happens to me a lot with Skype. I know it seems lame, but try to restart your device. This clears the cache (memory) of what is and isn't connected. It's served me well but often time consuming if I am going a meeting right on time.

But you will always hear the participants if you have the volume turned on. Are you trying to isolate the sound to only hear your voice and no one else's? Are you the host? If you are the host and you record the meeting, you can set Zoom up to isolate the tracks of the speakers, WHEN IT RECORDS, but you won't hear that sound isolated when you are actually in the meeting. • @seensoughtsold

If the sound is distorted to you, it could be a hardware problem with your mic or speakers. Is it only distorted when you use headphones? Or no matter what sound input/output you use? Have your tried other headphones? Is your sound is distorted to everyone else or they sound distorted? Then this is probably a bandwidth problem with your internet. You can try to disable the video (to save more bandwidth) or dial up with your phone line.

Sometimes a buzz can be interference from another device, like your cell phone another microphone or audio device. It sounds silly but try to move everything away for your microphone. Some mics are SUPER fancy and have channels, you can see if you can change the channel of the mic. That may also be causing some interference. I hope that helps

Hello Anurag, the answer is...it depends. If your computer does NOT have a built-in microphone or speakers, yes, you will need to purchase an external microphone. If your computer DOES have a built-in microphone and speaker, then it must be working in general when you do other things like listen to videos or music. If you can hear other things then you have working speakers. If you are not certain if your computer has a microphone you can check the Systems (in Windows) or System Preferences in Mac. Here are instructions how to see if you have a microphone. Link for Windows: www.businessinsider.com/how-to-test-microphone-on-windows-10 Link for Mac: www.wikihow.com/Activate-a-Microphone-on-Mac There is a chance that you have a microphone and it stopped working. If that is the case, you can buy an inexpensive external microphone and that will resolve the problem. Make sure once you get the external microphone setup, you also tell Zoom to use the EXTERNAL microphone instead of your system microphone. I know it may seem like a lot but just take it in baby steps: 1. Do you have a microphone? 2. Can I turn it on, test it, or fix it? 3. If it doesn't exist or it doesn't work, buy an external microphone. 4. Tell Zoom to use the external microphone 5. Enjoy your studies. Please let me know if you get stuck! Best of luck!

I can usually hear them as well when they unmute through my mac book pro speakers, however at random times, like today, I could not hear them when they unmuted, but I heard them in the playback(recording)....it may have been the way I plugged in today - I plugged in the mixer AFTER I turned on the meeting. Should the speaker setting say "same as system" because I am sure it usually does - but should the speaker should say "MacBook pro speakers" Thank you 😊

Linda, the applications on your computer should be dynamic and should be able to handle switching from the system components (like the built in speakers and microphones) but sometimes it can't. Yes, it sounds old school. It is always a good idea to shut down your computer. That allows the system to clear it's memory, release resources and settings that are stuck, and just restart fresh. I try to do thai weekly. Let it stay off for a few minutes so the power can discharge for just a bit. The same goes with our batteries. We should let them die and run out of power to 0% to allow the battery to cycle and do what it is meant to do, die every once in a while. Also, make sure your Zoom software is updated to the latest version. Just I'm case there is a know issues that was fixed in a software update. I hope this helps!

My dad has been trying to join a zoom meeting using a Windows 10 desktop. He does not have a microphone or camera. All he wants to do is listen to the meeting. However, he cannot hear anything. He has done the test audio and he can hear that, but when the meeting starts he doesn't hear anything. Any idea what's going on?

Hey Carol, A couple of things come to mind. 1. Please make sure he is using the "Same as System" in the Audio settings. This should be the default speakers that the computer uses. There are weird permissions that Windows requires. Sometimes the software (like Zoom) sends this weird, scary message. If we don't know what it is, we get scared and assume someone is trying to do something bad...and we cancel the message, which in turn does NOT give Zoom the permission it requires. I attached another post I found on how to specifically troubleshoot Zoom for Windows 10. Depending on how tech savvy your Dad is, he may or may not need help with some of these steps. 2. Make sure the sound (in Audio Settings) for the Speaker Volume is turned up, not down. To turn it all the way up, you would see a full blue line. If you see half blue and half grey, the volume is 50%. If you see a full grey line, the volume is 0% (meaning it is turned all the way down). 3. The last resort is to call in from his phone and put the phone on speaker. Since he isn't talking and his computer, he shouldn't hear an echo. If he hears an echo, he should disconnect the computer audio. To find the audio dial-in number, he will click the Audio ^ and select Leave Computer Audio. That will change the Audio button to say "Join Audio". He can click the Join Audio button and he will select Phone or Dial-in. He will NOT select Join by Computer. *Note: If he uses his phone to dial in, instead of his computer, he can be heard if the organizers of the meeting allow participants to talk. So, he will want to make sure he mutes his phone either on this cell phone or in the Zoom meeting. He can mute in the Zoom meeting by clicking the phone icon and a line will appear and it will say Muted. Here is the link to the Windows 10 Zoom audio troubleshooting. I hope one of these things will work for him. www.guidingtech.com/fixes-zoom-microphone-not-working-windows-10/#:~:text=Join%20Audio,bottom%20in%20the%20meeting%20window.

For no apparent reason, my MacBook Pro microphone suddenly stopped working and other participants can't hear me unless I use headphones. I've troubleshot everything (re-installed the Zoom client, restarted the computer and tested the microphone in Zoom and it doesn't work -- the sound bar doesn't respond to speaking). The only way to be heard is to wear headphones. The microphone works fine on all other apps that require it on my laptop. It seems like a hardware issue because my remote tech support person says he can hear me typing, but can't hear my voice unless the headphones are plugged in. It's bizarre. Everything used to work just fine and I use Zoom all the time.

Amisha, when you join on mobile, the Zoom default is to use your network service to connect. It appears that zoom made changes to the app, which only allows you to connect through your cellular network. This means if you cell signal is low AND you are using video, your sound may sound bad, garbled, or distorted. You used to be able to choose to dial up through dialing a number and entering your Zoom meeting ID and participant ID but I see that setting is gone. That could have resolved this issue. I would recommend that you turn off your video and see if that helps with the sound issues. It is not ideal but it may be the only thing that helps in this situation. Otherwise I would recommend: 1. See if the meeting organizer can provide the dial in information for the call. Then you can use that separately and you would not use the Zoom app audio feature. You would connect to the Zoom meeting for the video. Disconnect the Zoom audio in that same Zoom meeting. And go to your phone dialer to dial in and connect to the Zoom meeting. Please try to get the participant ID so Zoom will match your video to your audio. 2. If that doesn't work, then unfortunately you may have to reach out to Zoom support I hope this helps?

You have to disconnect audio on your computer. If you are connecting from your computer to watch and your phone to hear, you are connected twice. If you are getting sound interference, it is probably feedback from your computer and phone being too close to each other. But there is no way to not see your name twice since you are connected twice. You can change your name in the meeting or in Zoom desktop settings.

When you try the different mics, are you changing your audio source in Zoom to the microphone. You have to do this to make sure Zoom does NOT use your computer system microphone. And have you tried using headphones with a microphone? Does that work? You will still have to change the source from the default system microphone and speaker. If not you need to isolate the problem. It could be the microphone jack that is the problem.

  • @seensoughtsold

    @seensoughtsold

    4 жыл бұрын

Hey Rebecca, when you say the "audio is off" do you mean the volume is turned down? The echo may be coming from the microphone. Turning the volume down means you can't hear it but Zoom may be able to hear the sound getting picked up on your devices. And that could be causing the echo. When in a Zoom meeting, try to use the Participants section to mute one of those devices, either the phone or the computer. You can also leave computer audio altogether while in the Zoom meeting.

You have to make sure that no other application is using your mic or camera. Zoom may be fighting with another program for control. Sometimes you could open a video on your desktop and it could temporarily take control of your microphone and then Zoom is left not working. That is probably the most common reason. I know it can be frustrating not knowing what is causing the problem.

This may be a hardware issue. Have you tried to use headphones with a microphone? Your speaker may work fine but your microphone may be broken. You can try that to see if that will work. If you use headphones, headset, or an external microphone, you have to tell Zoom. So you can change that in your Audio settings or where you performed the same audio test. Just change the speaker and microphone to headphones, or whatever you plugged in for your sound.

That may have been the problem. 🤞🏼

Can they not hear you at all.or are you breaking up and your sound is cutting in and out (or not consistent)? If they can kinda hear you, then it is most likely your internet connection. On your next Zoom, try turning your video OFF to see if that helps with your bandwidth. If they can't hear you at all, then it could be a microphone problem. Have you tried headsets, an external mic, or dialing into the meeting on a phone line?

OK. I think this is what is going on. Typically when we join with Bluetooth, we have to tell Zoom to use our Bluetooth, instead of whatever it normally uses. If we are using the microphone, speakers, and camera on our computer, that is called "Same as System". If we have an external mic, that is called whatever the mic name may be (ie SnoBall Mic). When you connect with Bluetooth, you must tell Zoom to use Bluetooth for your Microphone AND your Speakers. My guess is you are using Bluetooth to talk but the computer (Same as System) for the speakers. But please test this and make sure that everyone else can hear the video play and not just you. Since you are using Bluetooth as the speaker, you just want to make sure everyone can hear it now, not just you. Here is what I would do to test this: 1. Start a new Zoom meeting on your computer. 2. Click on the Audio ^ button 3. Change the Microphone to Bluetooth 4. Change the Speakers to Bluetooth 5. Use your cell phone to join the meeting (as a participant) 6. Mute your cell phone (so you don't hear that awful screeching feedback when two mics are too close to each other and both transmitting sound at the same time) 7. Make sure your cell phone can hear you talking. 8. Start to play the video. 9. Check to see if you hear the video sound in your bluetooth 10. Take you bluetooth ear pod out of your ear and set it down 1-2 feet away from your computer (that is probably about how far your head would be from your computer) 11. Walk out of the room with your cell phone. If you hear the video playing clearly on your mobile phone, it worked! Do a little happy dance! If you barely hear the video playing, then the sound may be too faint to use this method. Try turning your speaker volume all the way up to see if this helps the problem. If you can't hear it at all, you may have to use your speakers to play the video on your computer and not use your Bluetooth as the speakers input. I hope this helps and it wasn't too confusing. Please let me know what happened in the test and we can try something else. Good luck!!!

Whatever your audio sounds like on the play back, that is what it sounded like in the meeting. Try different headphones. If you want to test it out, start a meeting and then join that meeting from another device and you can hear it for yourself and test different things to see what it is. It could be the microphone is hitting your shirt, jacket, etc. I hope that helps!

There is no way I can tell for certain without being there. But typically one person dominates the voice control at a time. A general rule is the loudest person wins control. So, if the HOST was talking louder than your whisper, then most likely, you weren't heard. But I don't know with 💯 certainty that was the case the whole time. Lesson learned: always mute.

@@Maribel7111 OK.

Allison, I am so sorry for your troubles. I apologize for the delay. When school started, I got bombarded with Zoom questions. Are you using a different microphone or speaker than the one built in on your Mac? Have you tried the old faithful reboot? Many times other things "hog" your microphone that was using it before like Skype, Teams, phone dialer apps, etc. Sometimes that gives it a fresh start. Also, Zoom is making frequent updates to their desktop software, so you may want to see if a new Zoom update helps the problem.

If the voice is cutting in and out, it could be a problem with the equipment the person is using. Have you ever have headphones that started to work sometimes and not work other times? But if you jiggle the wire or cord, it will work. That could be the problem, just like our headphones would cut in and out with the music until we jiggled the cord, the same thing can happen with the microphone when you are using a wired microphone/headphones. It's hard to test your own microphone. You can do it by recording a Zoom meeting by yourself and talk and then replay it to see if it is your equipment. You can also try it by using your smartphone and record a video and see if your sound is going in and out. If so, it is your equipment, not your Internet. When the internet is causing a problem, you will notice the video will be frozen or pixelated (meaning their face is probably blurry). If one person's face is frozen, it's their internet. If EVERYONE's face, except yours, is frozen, it's YOUR internet. If you're just using sound and no video, it could be an internet issue. If they are cutting in and out, it could be their internet. If people can't hear you consistently and they are missing words or can't hear you at all. It could be your internet. You could try your next call from your cell phone and see if that resolves the problem. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Two things when you are on Zoom (or any web meeting), you are two things that could be causing this: 1. Your internet is downloading data so you can hear everyone and see the screen. This is using your internet's bandwidth and is called your download speed. 2. And you are uploading data to the internet so everyone can hear you and see you. This is using your internet's bandwidth and is called your upload speed. There is only so much you can do to speed up your internet. - Disconnect other devices that are using WIFi, like other computers, cell phones, smart speakers, or cable boxes. They all use internet. - Reset or restart your router/modem. I unplug and plug mine back.in every couple of days. I don't know of it really helps or I just pretend that it does. This is like clearing all the stuff that may be cached (or using bandwidth even after it's done using the internet, like cable boxes. If they are on, they are using bandwidth, in most setups). The last factor is super frustrating but it's the fact that many web meeting software eat up your computers memory and processor so EVERYTHING is slower when on a Zoom. You can help a little bit by: - Closing applications that you don't have to have open during the meeting. - You can also close unnecessary browsers that are open. Like I always have 20 chrome tabs open and I feel like I need them all at once but I don't. - Clear your browser cache - Use a memory boosting software to help you clear up memory or tell you what applications to close to free up more memory - close Zoom. Quit Zoom. Not just minimize it. Also check for updates from Zoom too. - and lastly, shut down and reboot (it works sometimes) It doesn't sound like a hardware issue but sometimes our device have a mind of their own. If all of this doesn't work, the last resort is to chat with support. Best of luck!!

You can visit the Zoom Developers Forum or email the Zoom Developers. I would go here first: devforum.zoom.us/t/audio-issues-audio-gone-pitched-delayed/17411/5 And reply to this thread with the date, time and Meeting ID. I am having problems on zoom that my sound is breaking up and crackling. If I switch to phone audio people are complaining about the echoing sound even though I have muted my computer. • @seensoughtsold

Hey Mary, That is frustrating! I am sorry to hear about this. Breaking up and cracking could be a microphone that is not working properly. Microphones are in different places on our computers. I have spilled ice water on the keyboard of my laptop and nothing worked right for a couple of days. So, the microphone could be blocked with debris, cookie crumbs (most likely in my case) or dust. There is no easy way to figure it out. Here are a couple of things to consider: - You could buy an external microphone. There are some microphones that are super expensive, don't buy those. You can find a great microphone for less than $30 online. I added some links to the bottom for a couple under $30. - You can buy the clip microphone. They are called Lavalier microphones. It's the ones you see news anchors have clipped to their shirt/blouse. They clip on your shirt but have a wire and power button (that I always forget to turn off...add batteries to that store list) and you have to be wearing a shirt that actually has a place to clip the microphone to. They can be a nuisance for women with long hair, bulky collars, big earrings or necklaces, so you may want to avoid that. - When you connect to the audio, through your phone, YOU MUST mute yourself from your computer otherwise it sounds like you are using a megaphone talking to everyone else, with an echo, echo, echo. And sometimes it adds an echo to everyone on the call. To disconnect from the audio on your computer while in a Zoom meeting, try this: 1. Click on the ^ to the right of the audio settings (bottom, far left) 2. Look for the Leave Computer Audio. Then, you will have to listen and speak 100% from your phone and your echo should be gone. I hope that helps! Microphones that should work fine but I haven't tried them personally. That is so weird. I have no idea what could cause that. If they have a delay in the internet, it could speed up their speech and the video would be frozen and then kinda fast forward back to real time. That could make it sound a bit like a helium voice. They could have a fun voice disguiser/voice box but that seems a bit extreme for Zoom meetings.
