This video takes you through a great idea about using Zoom with Google Earth. This is a great combination and this idea can be used for all sorts of classes including language classes but other topics too. It would work great in a history class, geography etc.

Many teachers are struggling to make their lessons more student centered. It can be hard when teaching online. You need to learn to set up activities that your students can then replicate in the breakout rooms. I show you one of my favourite activities using Google Earth. I have been using Google Earth in my teaching and learning for a long time and it can easily be used in a live online lesson with something like Zoom or Adobe Connect. We need to set up activities that can take the pressure off us as teachers, so that we can get the students more engaged and involved in the teaching and learning. You can stage these activities, so first you can do an activity as a class and then you can get the students to do the same activity in the break out rooms.
In this activity, I take the students off to visit different monuments and places around the world. After I normally ask them questions or get them to complete sentences, to check their understanding. Then I get the students to do the same. I have normally asked the students to prepare the activity before the lesson, so that when they come into the Zoom lesson, they can open their screens and take the rest of the class off to see the place they want to visit. This really brings teaching and learning to life and makes the activity really personal. I normally get at least one or two students to do this, so that the rest of the students online understand what they need to do. We can then get the students into breakout rooms and get them to present a place to the rest of the class. In Zoom there are great breakout rooms and the teacher is able to move in and out of the breakout rooms and listen to what the students are doing. This can make the learning more student-centered and student focused.
This approach to teaching in Zoom can be used with other tools too. You can get your students to give a PowerPoint presentation or present an interesting picture or show the rest of the class an interesting place in Google Maps. I always start by doing an example myself, then getting the students to do the same in class mode and then finally using the Zoom break out rooms to make the lessons more student focused by getting the students to work in small groups. A really useful set of practical ideas that can help to make the teaching and learning more student focused.

Hi Evelyn. Thank for your lovely comment. You can save the chat. So if they all commented then their names would appear there. You can also do a screen grab of the names in manage participants, but I don't yet see an option to automatically download a list of attendees after the meeting. Zoom are bringing in extra features this weekend, so I'll be doing updates next week with new videos on things like security. Russell.

Go for it, Maria. I really like Google Earth and the detail it provides. You can set breakout session assignments in Webex when you schedule a training session. Breakout sessions can be used when you want to divide the attendees of your session into smaller groups to collaborate and communicate. I've never done a Webex tutorial, even though I have used the tool.

Thanks a lot. That’s a great idea and creative one:) The summary of the presentation for the beginner teachers Combing technology can add fun to the classroom. MAy you type a name of one of the sports stadium so that will attract the students’ attention. You can show them how to enter the ground. Then let them talk about the names and the numbers. They can go a head start their presentation about. They may prefer other places in England. Even they can use such technology to prepare at home blending their learning experience using technology. Using monuments can Be great topics. Even they can prepare their questions and that bring them to life experience watching the place. They can lead their education using their favorite places to speak about. Typing www.googleearth.com on the chat side and click on it to be shared.
