The diesel Suburban gets some much needed rust repair around the A pillars. We can't have wet feet when hunting zombies in our our 4wd squarebody!

    1) I picked up a 70 C-10 with big boy level windshield channel cancer - this lead me to your video. 2) I love The Donna's ...they're hometown girls.

I was thinking this was going to be sketchy, but it was good enough. I TIG weld everything, so every time I see unclean metals being welded... I cringe a bit. You did right by not going any further into it... The perfectionist in me says to dig deeper to clean the metal, but you'll never get any further than running a pressure washer down the hole to knock the flaking metal off to OSPHO it all. I probably would have, but that makes things cost to much for the job. I'm working on my K5 that probably I wouldn't have bought had it not been for the LS1, TH400, and NP205 atop 39.5's. Kicking off my business this year made this one an easy write-off for the sheer amount of advertising material from one truck alone. A lot of little spots on the A-Pillars, windshield frame, right door bottom, big floor/rocker panel replacement. SETx here... BMT Where you from, dude?

What business allows you to write off your k5? Sounds like a good score. You should check out my 4l80e swap video too. I'll be coming out with another video soon, swapping a 700r4 for a 4l80e. Born in Dallas.

@@CrankAddict Restoration and fab business. Advertising and my shop truck in one package. By the book has its perks... For a few years at least, but everything helps in the beginning. It's hard to find 4L80's down here that are alive or not being kept. I'd prefer the extra headroom for the LS1 to stretch its legs without trying to pull a tire. It's a 10s NA Camaro LS and way too much for the job... Package deal sent me home with it and I couldn't decline that motor. I used to build Jeeps all the way out from the ground up and used to head up your way to rock crawl in Gilmer at Barnwell too. I got tired of Jeeps with all of the JK Jeeps looking the same; big wheels wrapped in useless low profile rubber, the pot iron frames to the console overkill, and really lost all drive to mess with them. Cliche mall Jeeps. Always wanted a K5 Blazer, but never liked them stock... Good market coming in for restoration with square body and OBS. Even those body style dump trucks are flippable nowadays. I watched your Jimmy Unibody box clean out before I went to sleep and buddy, that was horrific! What a nasty mess that one was with the car or dog shoulder bone (IDK) that you dug out of that Jimmy's Unibody! That LQ4 and transmission as well as the axles in that Kawasaki green really turned out nicely! I don't wear a covid mask (thank our Texas for that), however, when it comes to plague etc, I'm with you plus a respirator!

How do you patch badly rusted areas during windshield install? Do you use bondo or something?

  • @CrankAddict

No bondo. Cut out the rust. Shape some sheet metal and weld it in. Grind smooth. Primer. paint. I replaced half the windshield channel on my trans am this way.

Man please cover the interior when welding next to an open window. Found my seat burning way too late 1 time and it was hard to put out quickly. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for the video.

Why do you need to replace the windshield?

  • @CrankAddict

The windshield was just old (the original?) and there were a lot of optical issues that didn't show up on camera.

overkill. just clean it up slightly & use POR-15 cover it up with whatever. I like SUGRU (silicone putty), it will never bother you again lol
