My son just bought my wife and I one of these. Cooked up my first batch off basmati, and... wow. Absolutely perfect, from the bottom of the pan to the top - so consistent throughout. I've never had rice turn out this well.

I bought the 10 cup one and I really regret it. Even though I got it at a cheap price, I am just one person and I can barely eat 2 cups of rice. It's like using a Rolls Royce to drive to work within walking distance.

I’ve been using this rice cooker for over a year and I love the pants out of it. The non-stick coating is amazing and rice never sticks to it. The buttons have a satisfying squishy feel. The removable top lid makes it a cinch to keep clean. My only very, very minor complaint is that the default Steam settings is set at 40 mins but I rarely steam anything for more than 20 mins so I have to spend an extra 2 seconds adjusting it every time.

I'm not sure whether to buy the 5.5 cups version of the 10 cups version. I am in a household of 2 so will never need more rice at one time than the 5.5 cup version. However, I'd like to steam vegetables in it, and i'm assuming that the 10 cups model has a much bigger plastic steaming compartment?

  • @ZojirushiAmerica

Hi there! The larger model will have a larger sized steam basket. The minimum amount of white rice that can be cooked is 2 cups (6 oz. cup) on the large model. This will roughly double in volume when cooked. Depending on how much rice you like to cook regularly, the large one can be used for a smaller household, specially if you like to have friends or family over for dinner it can come in handy for those occasions. We hope this helps!

Hi, I just got this rice cooker and I tried, as the first time, to cook Gaba rice and broccoli in the steamer basket at the same time. Well, the rice turned out terribly sticky and dry, while the broccoli pretty overcooked. This is what I've done: I rinsed and washed the rice first in a separate bowl. Then put the water into the inner pan at the level 2 position, added 2 cups of rice (used the measuring cup provided)...SHOULD I PUT RICE FIRST AND THEN THE WATER or viceversa??? Anyway, I let the gaba brown rice to soak for 30 min (as suggested in the operating instruction/manual ) then I used the white/sushi course (as suggested) to initiate the cooking process (....why not the brown rice program???) Just before starting to cook I inserted the steam basket with broccoli and pushed the Start button. I don't know what I made wrong. I am confused. Can anyone help me to understand? Should I have to use the steam program separately? Germinated rice needs to be soaked out of the pan and then put soaked rice into the inner pan and the right amount of water in order to cook it right? Should I pour more water when steaming and cooking rice? To cook rice and steam veggies at the same time which program should I use? How about the amount of water needed? Thank you in advance

The GABA brown rice setting will activate any short grain brown rice and this is why the setting takes longer than the regular brown rice setting. We don't recommend using the GABA or Brown rice setting for steaming since it will overcook the veggies and the rice will be too soft. We only recommend using the white rice setting if you are going to steam when cooking rice and only 1 cup of rice for the 5.5 cup model or 2-4 cups of rice for the 10 cup model. If you are cooking rice that is already GABA or is sprouted then it's best not to use the GABA setting since the rice has been pretreated and will normally require a shorter cooking time. We would advise to contact the rice manufacturer for any instructions on how to cook their rice in rice cooker. Please note that it's not recommended to open the rice cooker while it's cooking rice as it will affect the cooking and if done too often could potentially cause a malfunction. If you have any questions or need additional help, do not hesitate to contact Zojirushi Customer Service at 1-800-733-6270 or email support@zojirushi.com

The rice cooker needs to be allowed to cool down before it can cook again between batches of rice. We also have not tested cooking rice pudding in the rice cooker since it could potentially cause an overflow when cooking with dairy. I hope this helps!
