Agreed, it makes sense that everyone else is more fulfilled in their careers than Zoey is, given how she was easily the least entertaining, memorable character.

like i imagine a bunch of people that identified with zoee when they were younger, just for nickelodeon to be like oh yeah that character you related with? they peaked in highschool and are now a loser that ruined their friends wedding and faked her whole life 💀 sounds like great character development

@@sybill123fulI’m sorry, but who on earth could identify with Zoey lol? She had the personality of a wet paper bag in the original series yet for some reason everyone worshiped the ground she walked on. It’s not even that she was unlikable, she legit did not have a single personality characteristic at all. You’d have to be a human brick wall to identify with Zoey as a character.

In the original show, Zoey was easily the least entertaining character, despite her name being in the title, and being the clear lead. Almost two decades later, and the side characters are STILL more compelling than Zoey.

So true, I remember literally every reoccurring supporting character besides her little brother being easier to get invested in the story of. What’s odd… Victoria Justice was so compelling in Zoey 101 but her character in Victorious was one of the least compelling characters in the cast.

Some adults will see it out of nostalgia and they'll take their kids, and then a whole new bunch of kids will also see it. They've gone and turned it into an adult drama, so no one will watch it out of nostalgia or anything

My tinfoil hat theory is that emphasizing how the protagonist "got it right the first time" with a high school sweetheart is meant to advance the Christian-coded idea of "the first person you're with is the most special, " reading between the lines, the first person you're with romantically AND physically, aka, don't sleep around, settle down with the first person you're ever with, the one you met as a teen. It's the same reason why "big city career girls" in romcoms end up with their small-town high school boyfriend and give up their whole life to move "back home" and start a family now that they've finally found the ~man~ again

That's so stupid because the Ned's cast are already still friends and literally no one from the show has talked ill of the production so they could avoid drama. Plus it'd be so easy to have relevant modern jokes with the absurdism, making a survival tip like get 'roommates to make rent cheaper' and have Ned living with like 9 other dudes. How to keep yourself from becoming the bad guy on Twitter but it keeps happening to the cast until the final tip is to never post. Making cheap alcohol taste better where they add in a bunch of stuff to make a $3 wine taste good. How to hide the smell of weed from your landlord. They could've leaned into the millennial adulting challenges and that wouldve killed if there were good writers on board.

(I am a born & raised New York City gal & it didn’t appeal too much here) The only aspect of it I can see being intriguing as a tween is being the first few girls at a all boy school. I feel like this movie only happened because Jamie Lynn would not stop harassing them about bringing it back because she’s delusional and never got past the fact that she ruined her chance at a career in entertainment before she really started. From what I’ve seen, her life revolves around being petty that people don’t put her on the same pedestal as Britney, because she’s done literally nothing to earn a pedestal. And then she helped abuse Britney to give herself a power trip. Now she doesn’t have the same hold in Britney’s life, so she scrambling for any chance of getting noticed by the public eye to “prove” to all us haters that she was the hidden star in the family all along. Even the movie plays off as the actors having midlife crisis’s and trying to relive the glory days of being “famous”. They were all kid actors that didn’t break out into mainstream media as they grew up, so their acting is still as bad as when they were child actors. But I still feel like the ones that came back, only did it to get Jamie Lynn to shut up.

Fun fact: not too long ago, Nickelodeon posted a video of the Zoey 102 cast reflecting on their favorite moments from the original series. If you’re familiar enough with Zoey 101 to recall those moments, you’ll notice that, in a blatant display of spite towards Alexa Nikolas and Paul Butcher for calling out Jamie Lynn Spears for her… everything, really, any clips from the show featured in the video where Nicole or Dustin were originally present in the scene were edited so that they’re cropped out of the shot. Tellingly, Lola wasn’t cropped out of scenes she appeared in even though Victoria Justice didn’t come back for Zoey 102 either. Hell, Zoey and Nicole’s original roommate Dana is still shown in these clips despite Kristin Herrera leaving the show after Season 1. Once again, this company shows that, when given the choice, they will side with the oppressors over the victims.

@@BabyGirlTiny and I understand that fully and I don’t disagree with you but many reboots struggle with finding their identity (as in are they made for me the person who grew up with that show or my kids who have never heard of the show in the first place) Zoey 101 and icarly were made to appeal to the kids of the millennial generation (ie me) not the next generation. So it doesn’t make sense to reboot it or return to it again if it was absolutely an absolutely wanted one (and it really wasn’t because of all the behind the scenes stuff with Alexa and Jamie Lynn) All lot of Nickelodeon live shows are pretty bad so it’s not just this one however I really don’t think it’s a smart idea to reboot something from a problematic individual so that another problematic person can get money after her golden goose left. You can enjoy the show all you want and you can acknowledge that it came from a problematic person too. I just don’t like Nickelodeon firing foot man for being a abusive person but still finding ways to use his work to create nostalgia bait for their streaming service. The Clumsy Successful Woman Trope got me thinking how Hollywood has this aversion of portraying actual regular ppl who aren't on high positions in companies or have their own businesses. And If a person is financially struggling in a story then it's always in a stylish huge loft in NY while also never really doing their jobs. I think this Clumsy Successful Woman Trope is one of the ways Hollywood tries to have their cake and eat it as well by making the female character living out the mythical American dream while also trying to make her relatable to audiences. But I think I speak for everyone when I say if you show me a woman who's a CEO wearing designer clothing complaining about being single, living in a huge home in downtown of a metropolis, but also have her trip and fall on flat surfaces, she's still not gonna be relatable.

She abused her power as someone who works “in the industry” to convince someone to do her a personal favour, which for all he knows could include physical intimacy of varying degrees, all in exchange for the promise that she will pull some strings and get him on a show? Dan Schineider may not have been directly involved in this project, but whoever was clearly has an equally disgusting look at the world.

Since they tried so hard to make it look more "adult" you know what would have been iconic? To make the reason she broke up with puffy face back in the days the fact that she got pregnant 🤪 and make it about how difficult it was to have a baby in her teens and that's why she kinda detached herself from her friends group

I remember Zoey being the absolute worst lead character on any show I watched back then. I just remember everyone else idolizing her just for existing and being pretty, but she really only just walked around and was popular. She was mean to the weird characters a lot, and spoiled the few times something didn't go her way. Nice to know THAT much didn't change in 15 years. I remember Unfabulous and Ned's Declassified having much more relatable characters

I disagree. I would give ANYTHING for a revival of Chalkzone, Jimmy Neutron, Making Fiends, Victorious, Side Hustle, Warped, I Am Frankie, The Barbarian and The Troll, Supah Ninjas and The Astronauts! At least Zoey 101 HAD a proper ending. Tho, I already know it's not possible for either of them to get a revival. Who knows if they can even afford to get Ariana to do a cameo? In spite of the problems with all of my examples, especially Supah Ninjas, I believe they deserve it compared to shit like Planet Sheen that deserve to be forgotten.

@@AJ-xc4qe some of those are cartoons and I wasn't really talking about those, just live actions or cartoons that turn into live actions like Fairly OddParents. But Victorious is the only other show I could see having a revival but they can't do what ICarly did. They need to bring everyone back. And have better writing than Zoey 102 by a mile. Maybe they get back together by the death of Mr. Sikowitz.

@@Wonderlandhype Yeah, I feel like cartoons fall in a separate category for reboots. If you can get the original showrunner(s) on board and the money is right, you can figure out the rest. Plus, your not banking on nostalgia as much. At the end of the day, it's a cartoon, and if it's decent, kids will watch it. When you go through the live action catalogue for these studios (mostly Nick and Disney), you realize there aren't really many "rebootable" shows... Either the leads have gotten too big/busy to want to come back full-time, OR none of the main cast really broke out so the studio doesn't think there's enough of a draw (Ned's Declassified), OR some of the former child cast left the industry (or just aren't good actors), OR there's bad blood/drama/controversy between the cast and/or producers. Even then, your rebooted IP needs to work with a more mature tone, since you primary audience are now nostalgic adults, not kids. Just a lot of logistical hurdles that leaves you with a very small pool of decent reboot options. I feel like the most obvious reboot is Big Time Rush (not my cup of tea, but has a fanbase, band is back together IRL, and can easily translate music industry storylines to more adult themes). You could probably reboot Victorious (likely without Ariana Grande). Ned's Declassified deserves one, but lacks "star power." One I would personally like to see, but am not holding my breath for, is a more adult Wizards of Waverly place reboot if they could somehow convince Selena Gomez to come back. Zoey 101 would have been on my "do not touch" list as an exec... Jamie Lynn is controversial after the whole conservatorship thing, the original production's behind-the-scenes bullying allegations, most of the cast are not good actors (and/or haven't done much the last decade+), and there wasn't even really more story to tell. This just didn't need to exist.

If you want a commentary about all the endless reboots we've been getting, I recommend The Daydreams. So far it's good, the book is about the cast of an early 2000s teen show(think High School Musical meets the OC) who had a major feud on live TV, causing their show to be canceled after two seasons. Their reunion years later brings up old wounds and new questions.
