Zoe Grey - Thanks To A Place I Know PART 2

Ойын-сауық

1 - 26 April 2020
In part two of our video series for emerging artist Zoe Grey, listen to her discuss in depth the painting ‘Mountain (Near)’, which is part of her inaugural solo exhibition at Despard Gallery 'Thanks To A Place I Know'.
--
Zoe’s practice is centred on conveying a deep connection to her home, Marrawah, a remote coastal town on the northwest tip of lutruwita/Tasmania. Thanks To A Place I Know will present an entire new suite of paintings by Zoe that captures Marrawah in all its raw beauty, including the rocky coastlines, dense forests and notoriously wild weather.
Painting has become a way for Zoe to reconnect with home across vast distances, but more importantly share a deep relationship she holds for this remote, but significant part of the Tasmanian landscape. Zoe uses painting as a way to build awareness to the great significance of this area, including the importance of protecting these natural assets for future generations. Through bold gestural marks, each painting translates the complexities of memory and the intimate experiences of place, reinventing the traditions of landscape painting whilst touching on important ideas around identity and belonging.
