During a dinner at the home of NCIS Director Vance (Rocky Carroll), a vehicle drives by, hailing the house with bullets. Ziva (Cote de Pablo) springs into action and chases after the vehicle on foot. It's not until she returns home that she finds out her father, Mossad's Deputy Director Eli David (Michael Nouri), was killed.

Eli David was like a lot of men who had great power and responsibility thrust upon him. He was a man with flaws, caught between 2 worlds who eventually had to make the choice to stop straddling the line between them and step fully into one or the other. It was obvious that his choice led to a loss of some of his humanity, but you're right, he was still her father.

The page about Ziva’s mom on the NCIS franchise database says that she died in unknown circumstances while in Amman, Jordan.
