Greetings, fellow adventurers! Jake and Georgia here, thrilled to share the exciting tales of Day Five on our epic West Coast road trip. Our day began at the Inn at Entrada, known to us as the iconic Lava Springs from High School Musical 2. With dawn’s first light, we were up and ready for a day filled with relaxation and exploration of some of America’s most stunning sights.
Our morning kicked off with a self-guided tour of the resort, where we unearthed some of the filming locations from the beloved Disney Channel movie. A delightful breakfast overlooking the lush golf course set the perfect tone for our day ahead, before we retreated to our room to prepare for a leisurely poolside adventure.
We must give a shoutout to the resort’s staff, who were not only incredibly friendly but also attentive and caring. Their warmth made us feel right at home, and they were genuinely curious about our story and what had brought us to Southern Utah.
We embarked on an incredible dip in the pool, channeling our inner High School Musical characters and recreating some of our favorite pool scenes from the movie. With only one other person at the pool, we essentially had the whole place to ourselves.
As we reluctantly said goodbye to the Inn at Entrada, we packed our belongings and set our compasses for Zion National Park. Just an hour’s drive away, we started to notice the unique architecture of the nearby hotels and businesses, blending modern and contemporary styles with rustic desert aesthetics. The park’s organization was top-notch, and large signs warning of full parking lots greeted us well before we entered. Free shuttles from the nearby town to the park made the experience even more convenient.
With limited time on our hands, we tried our luck at the visitor center and miraculously secured a 15-minute parking spot. We quickly explored the center, made a small purchase at the gift shop, and then ventured into the park.
To fully enjoy Zion’s breathtaking hikes and activities, you typically board a shuttle that transports you to different locations. Due to our time constraints, we opted for a scenic drive through the park, pausing frequently for photos, to marvel at the views, and to soak in the natural beauty. Safe to say, this was one of the most stunning places we’ve ever had the privilege of visiting.
After navigating tunnels, winding around mountains, and skirting the smooth red rocks, we exited Zion on the other side, setting our course for Horseshoe Bend and Arizona!
A few hours down the road, we found ourselves crossing into yet another new state for both of us: Arizona. In no time, we arrived at Horseshoe Bend, an iconic canyon that towered thousands of feet above the river below. This brief stop came with an admission fee, a 1.5-mile round-trip hike, and some anxious moments as we watched others take daring photos on the canyon’s edge.
