3:28, this was such a stupid move that doomed them all. Zimbabwe has enough land to indoctrinate new local farmers, they should have done this and increased their farming population rather than trying to replace it. I have some Zimbabwean relatives who got a repossessed farm and they did nothing with it. Each year you could see it wither away until all the structures had crumbled and the farming area had turned to bush....mugabe shot his own country in the foot with this!

The government in Zimbabwe, however, thinks that printing more money creates more money when in reality money is just a concept, so it decreases the value of each individual piece of money.
I saw all of this first hand , I am not there any more and the reality of how crazy that was starts to stick in my mind.
You got hyperinflation half right, the fleeing of farmers evaporated the country’s resources and productive capacity . Money creation, so long as there is sufficient resources and productive capacity, will adjust in time but without any, the value of the currency will hyper-deflate irregardless of how much currency is created.

Cecil Rhodes didn't "invade" Zimbabwe. He initially had an agreement called the Rudd Concession with the King of Matabeleland for exclusive mining rights and rights to defend their mines in exchange for a % of the profits and weapons. This eventually resulted in Matabeleland raiding area's of Company settlements and activity, which led to the first Matabeleland War. I'm not saying Rhodes was some nice guy and it was a honki dori situation, but the British didn't just enter the country and start blasting, they tried "buying" the land first.
