Maturity comes with experience. He may have the intellectual capacity of a 8 year old, but he is much wiser than your average 8 year old, and it shows.

I agree with you! He is able to express himself very well, and is kind and has a passion to help others. perhaps they are talking about academically ( processing and and understanding math, reading and writting..) BUT in my eyes there is so are many different types of intelligence and clearly from hearing this young man he possess the best type of intelligence a HEART to help others! We need more people in the world like him, the world would be so much better!!

He’s the highest functioning person with microcephaly I’ve ever, ever, ever seen! Ever! I’ve only seen people with microcephaly who are nonverbal, use wheelchairs, diapered, and often tube fed. He’s incredible!

You have to remember he didn't speak for the first 7 years....alot of hard work and therapy

I see a lot of people saying "He doesn't look that different". But it's not about looking different, it's about developing, learning and going through your daily life differently. I have a special needs sister (she has severe Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy) and it's never about how they look, it's just about improving their quality of life, and giving them all the love and attention that they need :)

He's two years old now, and I can not begin to tell how many times I've heard "why are you holding him as a baby?" or the classic "he can't walk?!" You get tired of hearing stuff like that, you know. Because looks are not everything. There are syndroms which can make an impact on the looks, and the looks only. And there are others that can not be seen from the outside. Like brain damages. The whole "he/she looks normal!" thing just needs to stop. It can be so offensive to others. A good quality of life, love and good health beats "normal" every damn time :)

+Halapecia shaniqua No, honestly a 12-13 yr old is very mature. I was going to the club at 13-14 back in the 80's and kids now are 100x more mature than 20 or even 10 years ago. Hell, 15 year olds are having babies of their own and did back then even. Two of my friends growing up were moms at 15 with their own places. So, he is around 8 if that, mentally. He's a great person and inspiration though for sure!!

There's plenty of unlucky people with bad health perilous environments and poor circumstances.

I see alot of people here staying they don't see any difference in Daryll, then a "normal" person. Maybe it's because my brother had Microcephaly, but I can see it. It's not as pronounced as my brothers was. There is a difference. Daryll has the mental capacity of an 8 year old, where my brothers capacity was 18 months. Bobby's head was much smaller. His growth was also stunted. Even when he died at age 32, Bobby still wore diapers. The saddest part was my folks had to declare my brother a ward of the state in order to get help for him. He remained in a group home until he died, and came home on weekends. Before anyone comes unglued on me about the "group home", please remember that having a child at home who never progressed beyond the 18 month old stage, Bobby had to be watched 24/7. It takes a tole on the family. You simply can't expect anyone to live out their entire life never being able to take a breather. Mom had occasional respite care, yet suffered a nervous breakdown. Bobby was strong as well. He would fight getting his diaper changed. He would chin himself on a towel bar when he was 2. He was THAT strong. Mom, you are blessed to have a son who is as dedicated to you as you are to him. 6 1/2 years in mental capacity makes a huge difference.

I’ve worked with many people with microcephaly and he is on the higher functioning range but they can be extremely intellectually challenged.

IQ is hard to see objectively, outside of a test, especially in such a short little peek into his life. He has the body and voice of a man, he's altruistic. It's easy to let those things mask your view of the rest-simplistic word choice, repetition, looking to mum for social cues, etc. And while I hate the idea that such a handsome, bright young man is so limited, the doctors and pathologists who diagnose this stuff and administer these tests know what they're doing, so I'm inclined to believe what the video says.

It's amazing how he wants to help not many people disabled or not want to help any body any more keep up the good work and good luck with the charity work
