"知識青年從軍歌" - Intellectual Youth Enlistment Song (Chinese Anti-Japanese WW2 Song)
This is a World War II song, written by general Sun Liren. The original tune of the song has since been lost, but - popularized by the 2009 movie My Chief and My Regiment - it is often used with the tune of the Anthem of the New Fourth Army.
A note on translation:
Zhong Jun was a famous statesman of the Western Han dynasty. "At naught but 20" here refers in the original text specifically to the Chinese coming of age ceremony, the Guan Li.
Marquis Ban of Dingyuan here refers to Ban Chao.
"Walking on eggshells" here is a localization, the original Chinese uses the term "as stacked eggs", which has a similar meaning.
"Urgent pleas" here literally means "feather-adorned letters", because in ancient and medieval times frontier soldiers would adorn their most urgent letters (like those reporting of invasion) with feathers to mark them as urgent.
I do not get many subscribers off my videos. All translations here and on the Kuai channel are self made, and I put a lot of effort into making sure they are accurate. So please, subscribe and share this video with a friend, a discord server, or a back-alley homeless man. Thanks!
