I wanted to post the first few of these quite quick, so, to whoever has actually watched them all right as they came out - nice! I'm gonna do FF6 tomorrow again as there are a bunch of cool things to get through still in the game as well. Let me know what you think of the city!

To this day your LPs are just the best. I remember all the research and stuff you did for Final Fantasy X way back in the day and how I learned stuff about a game i've played a ton of. Keep on being cool WP!

Thanks man! That's very nice of you to say. This series will end up covering a lot of aspects of the game for sure too

This game is so charming, the little animations of the various buildings are so cute, and the manual was written in such a funny way. It really feels like the developers had a lot of fun with this game.

Charming is a great word for it, yeah. It really holds up well today for that too (charm = timeless)

This game is really endearing, can't believe i had never heard of it. Really makes me want to go on a old game spree. Also that manual section was hilarious.

Alright - I'm sold. This game's going on my to-play list. When I *get to it*, when I haven't even played Secrets of the Obscure yet, and Dawntrail's on the horizon, I don't know, but it's on the list!

Hah well honestly this game feels a lot clunkier to play than it looks honestly! I really would love a remaster/remake just for improving that.

@@WoodenPotatoes Fair! I haven't played this sort of game since the 90s, so the interface may be fine for me, in an "ignorance is bliss" sort of way.

I played this PC game a lot as a kid ~20-25 years ago. Having precious marble to complete the sanctuaries which spawned that god walking through your city. And the demigod ones. Such a great feeling to see them! This game is also the only place I've seen the word "granary". And the word itself reminds me of the greek goddess Demeter.

Lmao at the thought of Athena sitting down her dad, trying to explain how to navigate his game and slowly losing her mind doing it. You're really missing out on the classic Greek beats, they've got some great references in there. That "Tell us, sweet muse" bit that the manual starts with is famously the start of the Odyssey.

  • @WoodenPotatoes

I've always found it funny that disney always portrayed Zeus as this nice father figure and Hades as the douchbag, but in the actual greek myths Zeus more often than not is the douchbag while Hades mostly just stays in the underworld doing his own thing, aside from that ONE time he took Persephone as his wife Hades is far more chill than Zeus was. I bought this game on GoG (at 50% off it's dirt cheap), might play it along with your videos. 15:07 "Spreading olive oil all over the city" Gorden Ramsey liked that. 40:09 That's a nice touch referencing the altas myth there. Everytime you say Calydon it reminds me of Caledon in gw2. 55:21 I'm going to assume the ancient greek upper classes live off wine and not water here. 1:03:11 Gotta say I miss these manuals. I still have my diablo 1 one. Also its hilarious how they wove in installation with the story.

@@WoodenPotatoesIt goes into far more detail about the prime evils and their history, as well as the lore of sanctuary . They even have lore about the spells that are used in the game (fireball, holy bolt etc), the weapons, the creatures you encounter ingame as well as featuring quite a lot of artwork by Mezten. It contains more lore than what you'll actually get in the game itself. You've made me realise I still have my baldur's gate 1 and 2 manuals (the BG2 manual has those metallic spiral bindings on it), although those 2 are a little more dry since a huge portion of it seems to be just lifted from the D&D rulebooks. They did write the lore portions of it in character though, by a character named Volo (whom I think was a bioware creation). There's actually a bit of back and forth between him and Elminster in the manual since Elminster apparently considers Volo something of a fraud.

Thanks for these uploads, WP. I’m primarily a GW2 watcher of yours, but I think I fall into this incredibly small category of people who fondly remembers playing Caesar III years ago which, in some ways, is a predecessor to Z:MoO (same developer). So I can definitely appreciate these videos…and you should go back and play C3…❤

14:59 Well you can't just beg from Argos; you have to check the laminated book of dreams™, punch in the number to see if it's in stock, then go give the little order slip to the employee behind the counter and watch them disappear in to Narnia for like 30 minutes, only for them to come back and say it's actually not in stock.

You really should read some thing about greek history and mytologi. Oracle from delphi is very important in many greek myths but its prophecies are often misinterpreted at first, if i remember right one was something like "if you cross (i cant remember what was the name but it was specific river somewhere over there) you will destroy great empire" but when the ruler did it it turned out it was his great empire that gets destroyed. (sorry if my english is bad it isnt my primary language and basicly all i know about ancient greek is in my primary language)
