I picked up a 2020 Zero SR/F when it hit the showroom floor. Years later and I’m still smiling. I mainly use it around town for local runs and to and from work. The only time I leave it behind is when I’m going out on a group ride because the battery wouldn’t last the day. I hop on my Ducati Diavel for that. But for everything else it’s the electric.

Nice review. I own a SR/F myself and agree with what you say. I just love the feeling of a quiet, easy handling bike with tons of torque. I can ride much more agressive with this and noboddy around reacts... I used to have a Triumph Street Triple (which I loved and kind of regret selling) and ZX10R which is a bit pain to ride as a daily/commuter bike. A 1000cc bike is for me frustrating to have all the power in the world without being able to use it. On the Zero, I use full power all the time :-).

I can't thank you enough for showing the remains of the storage after the the rapid charger was fitted. Most people just say there's very little space without showing exactly how little. Totally agree about the look being ruined with the screen + rack. The cable will be going in a rucksack!

Been watching your videos for about 7 years, back in the 125 days, you deserve waaaaay more subscribers! ! I feel your pain with your back, my back went into spasm a week ago and I'm still off work! I just stepped up a kerb the wrong way and BOOM, SPAZ MODE ACTIVATED!

I would buy one today if I had the money, 35years of riding and lately I’ve been using TC Max for commuting and I must say I love riding it better than I do my other Petrol bikes👌

Totally dream bikes! Love my DS! Love to ride with these electric drive trains with instant torque. Nice review! :-)

In a 5 years ownership for example starting from 30k miles that's where electric bike starts giving you money back in fuel , oil changes ,brakes and other consumables ! I don't know know about this but Zero S 14.4 Kwh battery pack was good for 250k ! most ice bikes fall apart not even making 30-50k ! it means that this is ideal solution for courier or fast food delivery

Having owned my srf i can honestly say your correct about this bike . they are just pure fun bikes ,100 mile a day of sheer fun and iam done .

Good video, mate. You forgot to mention the app for your smart phone, and the fact that you can use the app to customize performance and the dashboard. I love this bike. I got to test ride one a few weeks ago. Planning to get one later this year.

So this is my new dream bike now, wow I love it, looks amazing and that sound it makes when accelerating is quite cool!

I have a 2023 FX and it has changed my life. I have never rode a regular motorcycle, so I really have nothing to compare it to. Glad to hear someone who rides traditional bikes review a Zero. I just can't explain how much I love it. I ride out in the country and in the mountains. Its quiet which makes it nice to ride around houses and horses. No gas, no gears and basically no maintenance. Charging and range are the main inconvenience, but they don't affect me in my riding situation. I ride for a little over an hour every evening and then charge it over night. The FX battery is half the size of the SR/F battery. I feel like I'm flying a Tie Fighter. I plan to get an SR/F in 4 more years when the warranty on the battery of the FX expires. I will never be without one. Or 2.

I honestly feel a little sad when I have to go back to my 2 petrol bikes. I love them do not get me wrong but there is a itch that only electric can scratch. But most never get to know the itch because they never give it a chance.

I grabbed a used 2017 energica ego for my first bike and I'm absolutely loving it. For the company that is the sole supplier for MotoE, not many people have actually heard about them, that's where I come in and won't shut up about them, haha

The noise or lack of it in the countryside hits the nail on the head. Cycling gives you that, it's almost a secret but now e-motorcycles are in on it as well.

Agreed, I have a ebike specifically for when I want to go out without my loud ass mt07 but dont quite want to put in the effort my push bike takes.

Great review. I think for me, the lack of DC charging on the Zero models is what is holding me back from replacing my existing electric motorbike (2018 Zero SR) with an SR/f.

Great honest review and thoughts on petrol vs electric, I recently bought a Zero S and find that the torque can be addictive and the ease of being able to just open the throttle to overtake without thinking which gear I'm in makes the commute much more of a pleasure. I too get the response from other riders that it's too expensive and sometimes struggle to explain that you can't directly compare petrol and electric bikes on cost.

Awesome review as always. Have you done a video debating the new e10 unleaded fuel that's coming. If not would you consider doing one as I am panicking having a cb500 2000 reg which is carbed and I am concerned if it is going to cause an issue 🤔

Just got into bikes, and bought my first one based off one of your reviews! As I didn't know if I'd just shit my pants first time I rode one I got a cheap petrol but I think if I get another it will be electric. They are so close on the practicality stakes. Want to see the big manufacturers get involved more though!

I love the excitement for it Spicy. I just think that electric motorcycle miss the Mark. I mean sure the go from a standstill and pull at any speed is part of what riding a motorbike is about. But it’s also that they have the performance of a supercar for a tiny fraction of the cost. And at the normal end of the market they are far more accessible than a car ever will be for younger people. Oh and where can I find a girrter or an ottaffe?

Beautiful, lovely country roads in the UK.

Readily available and abundant torque at useable road speeds is what makes a bike enjoyable to ride😉. That’s why the DR-Z is such fun to ride 👍. Horsepower numbers sell bikes, but torque is what make them fun, because that’s what’s doing the actual work. [Horsepower (Rotational) = Torque x rpm / 5252] Sorry about the imperial units of measure, I’m from across the pond and we haven’t caught up with the rest of the world yet 😆😆🤪.

I've watched lots of reviews of this bike and yours is very good. I've loved riding motorcycles on the road since 1980 but just cannot bring myself to even try one. Is it an age thing? I'm 57 and maybe through rose tinted glasses I loved two strokes (had an RD250LC on Ls) Love the noise of my MT10 which was under £10K and has about the same range. I realise I'm prejudiced against electric bikes, I know they are coming but will current owners of these bikes look back with the same affection as I have for my RD in another 40 years?

Just seen the announcement of the Zero FXE electric supermoto. It looks pretty awesome. Are you looking forward to seeing this released and test riding it? Should be out soon and priced around £10k which is definitely better than £20k. Lol

How do you charge your phone while riding when using GPS

Sorry boys to come off topic. But I came of my bike couple months ago. Front brakes failed so slammed on the back brake and slid out. Slid about 30 ft before slamming into a curb which my right arm took the brunt. Went through A&E spend about 5 to 6 hours there had X-rays no broken bones. But I’m still struggling with my right arm I have looked on google no help so want some bikers to point me in the right directions. Just want my arm to be normal I want to know how long it will take for my arm to become proper functional. Had road rash all down my right side and nerve damage in my ankle but the main problem is my arm.

go back to the doc and ask them to look at it again. I walked on a broken foot for 18 months before I found out and needed surgery. They can and do miss things, get back to the docs and they should send you on to a specialist. I am still dealing with damage from that crash in 2012 daily.

2019 i made a big mistake and bought a Zero SR, now i'm NO longer ride my petrol bike

I recon if you do seven more reviews that the company will give you a free bike! Can we see a wheelie and burnout special before the test model goes back spicy spice?

I do own an electric bike although not as flash as the zero. I think its the instant torque that is so appealing, however I do appreciate the lack of noise oddly enough.

One big issue with electric bikes, you will never be able to buy used bike like zero for £1,500 with 13k miles on it like I did with my zx-6r j1

As soon as the refuling/recharging time is comparable to just filling up with petrol I will have one but until that speed of charge or distance of travel per charge is improved upon its a none starter. Its just not a viable day to day option for 99 % of bikers

On a motorway You can get better mileage with SR/S

Its fun to ride and borrow that, but not fun to pay for that. I prefer my Suzuki Katana 2020

Money is money and has no reflection on the value of a bike IF it costs what it costs because the tech is new and expensive....and it is that haha

@@spicy110 Problem is what do you get for your money. Katana for 12k$ gets you much more that this electrocrap in every way. There is no benefit for spending double (27k for this bike) There is no single parameter which is better. These bikes are only for influencer whores and test rides. Nobody sane buys them if there is any other alternative. You can buy even cheap or used 600ccm bike and it would still be better.

@@TheSkace There are plenty of difference, some will be objective advantages like less maintenance and others will be subjective like less noise. I could list of plenty of reasons why I prefer electric bikes and while they may not apply to you that is irrelevant, you don't have to buy or ride one. If someone does prefer them then just perhaps the advantages they offer justify the extra cost.

Great video, but I suggest you edit down your disclaimers. You only need to say once you are not blanket endorsing electric motorcycles; they cost more (compared to petrol) so may not be as good value, etc. Say it once at the beginning, then stick to the bike review.

Throughout the 1970s universities had annual competitions developing different engines with the future fuel in mind. It took into consideration the efficiency of the fuel, how easily it is to obtain, it's environmental impact etc. There were a myriad of differently powered vehicles. Every year the winner was a combustion system powered by hydrogen. The most expensive, least economical and negative environmental impact was electric. Petrol and diesel out performed electric in all areas. If electric vehicles were to become the norm, this planet would suffer colossal devastating consequences and that's based on 1970s vehicle capacity. Additionally, there is simply not enough cobalt and lithium on the planet to sustain electric vehicles. The quest to locate the materials for electric would turn the entire planet into an open cast mine. The only way eutectic vehicles could become the norm is if the global population was massively reduced, and hardly any personal vehicles available.

@@spicy110 The tests halted in the Thatcher era when the world shifted more heavily towards globalist goals. Much of the hydrogen technology/publicity was suppressed. However, developers will still tell you there's only sustainable transport and infrastructure fuel is geothermal and hydrogen and that is simply cos it is abundant and has hardly any environmental impact. If back in the 1970s they were asserting there isn't enough lithium and cobalt for electric powered vehicles then I'd hypothesise that is certainly relevant in 2021. I know you don't really want to address the politics of fuel in your video but they are inseparable, especially when talking about electric vehicles. If electric vehicles are mandatory you, me and the majority of people will not have access to them. or our species (along with many others) will go extinct in its quest to realise the electric dream. There is also another factor to bear in mind when sitting on top of a high powered battery and that's its electromagnetic radiation which could potentially create negative health issues far greater than fossil fuel powered combustion engines.

yes I don't really want to get in to it but I will give view on this as I think I can say a few things for sure. The thing is what we knew 40-50 years ago is a different era of science, I do not think it has much or any relevance today. Also on simple terms how is hydrogen made? often with electrolysis, there are better ways but that they all take lots of power to produce. Then look at the delivery of this energy. We would need a lot of fuel stations to convert from liquid tanks to gas tanks and the gas will need to be transported in trucks to these stations. This is incredibly dangerous more so than petrol (I ran a petrol station for 3 years so I know a little about the industry) What would be ideal would be a system where the energy could be made anywhere and instantly piped to everywhere that needs it at the rates it is needed. What would be even better is if most of that system was already installed underground and to every building in the country....I think you can see where I am going with this. The fact we have a system in place that can be upgraded as needed and everyone is going with electric 99% of the time for non fossil fuels shows it is likely to be what we have if its is truly the best or not because of the net gain of having wires in place now. I am fully open to what ever comes along but i can not ignore facts and logic. while on facts I have to say this "bear in mind when sitting on top of a high powered battery and that's its electromagnetic radiation which could potentially create negative health issues far greater than fossil fuel powered combustion engines." This is flat out scientifically wrong for a few reasons and is getting a little to close to 5g crackpottery. From cancer.gov "Unlike high-energy (ionizing) radiation, EMFs in the non-ionizing part of the electromagnetic spectrum cannot damage DNA or cells directly. Some scientists have speculated that ELF-EMFs could cause cancer through other mechanisms, such as by reducing levels of the hormone melatonin" I knew this but wanted to quote a good source. Ok that is just cancer but If you think EMF can hurt you you, you might want to look in to how much EMF is in your house from every electrical wire and device. Also the SUN the bringer of all life...quote "EMF occur both naturally (e.g., visible light from our sun) and artificially (light from an LED; communication waves for AM/FM radio, smartphones, and Wi-Fi routers; x-rays for medical examinations; gamma-rays emitted from a thermonuclear reaction; etc.)." As for lithium, there are a few other much better battery chemistry's being worked on atm. I very much doubt lithium will be what we use in years to come. I mean it has only been used for 30 years. "A prototype Li-ion battery was developed by Akira Yoshino in 1985, based on earlier research by John Goodenough, M. Stanley Whittingham, Rachid Yazami and Koichi Mizushima during the 1970s-1980s, and then a commercial Li-ion battery was developed by a Sony and Asahi Kasei team led by Yoshio Nishi in 1991." What will happen I do not know but there are facts and logic we can work with.

Things have changed significantly since the 70s to make EVs much more viable. Not only has the EV technology itself improved (better performance, efficiency, charging speed, longer lasting, etc.) but also where the energy to power them comes from, with much more of it coming from more environmentally friendly or even renewable sources.

After significant pressure from oil companies many of the hydrogen technologies were bought up and shelved. There is also the myth that hydrogen is difficult and dangerous to store in a compressed liquid form as with propane, butane and cannot be delivered safely at fuel stations. This myth was perpetuated by the oil industry, particularly Standard Oil after the Hindenburg disaster. History has proven the Hindenburg disaster was an act of sabotage with which the oil industry used to capitalise and fortify its monopoly on the fuel industry. Hydrogen powered vehicles aren't the future, they're already here. It is not an issue of if they come to market but when. The only thing holding hydrogen back is politics and monopolies. Hydrogen can be manufactured easily wherever there is water, which is everywhere, even under deserts. For large scale energy production hydrogen is not required. Geothermal power is the only credible long term sustainable, low environmental impact power source. Iceland is a perfect example of this. Go see how cobalt & lithium is mined over in Africa and decide if you support this technology which is due to expand exponentially if we continue with the electric dream. Then there's the disposal of cells which have a far lower life than the ICE. We can't hope and wait for the technology to improve because the motivation for development is profit. That equates to the maximum resources being harvested in the fastest most efficient manner to convert into products to create profits. The political ideology of today is far more committed to this than it was in the 70s where then, a far slower and less profit based lifestyle was the norm, with a greater view to civic improvement rather than personal self fulfillment through capital wealth. There is fierce debate on the effects of non-ionizing radiation on the human and other living organisms. The tech industries using wireless technologies have long known there are potential serious health risks from bathing living organisms in NOR. There are numerous peer reviewed scientific studies proving that continued use of mobile devices, especially when held against the body WILL potentially lead to serious health issues such as cancer, particularly brain tumours. There has been a huge rise in brain tumours since the widespread use of mobile phones. Apple now issue a warning in there iPhone instruction manuals, stating the phones should be held at least 10cms away from the body at all times. In the field of wired power & wireless communications it has been suggested many times for the past hundred years the precautionary principle must be observed. However, the lack of regulation and huge capital interests have enabled health issues to be side stepped. This is a very similar situation as was experienced with the tobacco industries. You cited cancer.gov as a credible source. I would argue the contrary as would many other scientists. I'm alarmed you dismissed 5G as crackpottery. The 5G system is a millimeter wave high intensity EMF. It is the same tech used in airport scanners derived from the battlefield. It is used in gun sights (MMS), heads up displays (HUD max use of 10 mins before occular degenerative impact) and as a high pulse active denial weapon system, commonly referred to as direct energy weapons. 5G is also referred to in the military as a battlefield interrogation system where it is used to locate enemy targets. These systems are prohibited in civilian occupied positions by international law, yet the infrastructure is being deployed globally in civilian occupied positions WITHOUT the required safety assessments. This is a fully documented, real technology with mind-blowing high risk health implications. No councils are able to obtain insurance policies covering these technologies. A simple FOI will confirm. The past is and will always be relevant to the present otherwise there's no need for historians and no reference from which to know where we are and how we got here. History and science doesn't skip along like flat stones over water. These disciplines clearly show the progression of ideas, technologies and the behaviours of human beings among them. There is always a political agenda and it's always to benefit those who control the narrative, see The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli. As governments all over the world have sworn allegiance to globalisation, (the modern term for the combination of fascism and communism) they have clearly stated on numerous occasions, they're not waiting for the safety standards on the 5G roll-out, they're going full steam ahead. This is why I'd argue something as simple as electric vehicles is in fact inseparable from politics particularly in this climate where all governments who've signed up to the globalist strategy and stake holder capitalism, which is nearly all of them, are all operating unlawfully, under emergency powers, which are illegal and contravene unalienable human rights and are completely devoid of any scrutiny. There is no accountability, censorship is rife and a clear shift towards elimination of all freedom. We can witness this clearly by observing the current bills going through parliament in the UK to limit protests and free speech. Electric vehicles can and will be externally controlled through the 5G network as part of the internet of things strategy if successful. I agree electric bikes are a massive hoot but what lies beneath them is massive hurt.

I really don't get the fascination with electric bikes right now. Even when the petrol ban comes in 2030 bikes will still have petrol engines because they come under the emissions limit. Post 2030 you'll still be able to buy ICE bikes 🤷‍♂️ Eventually electric bikes will become the only option, but by then we'll either be too old to ride or the batteries will last 1000 miles per charge. I'm definitely waiting this one out.

As I state in the video an electric bike is not a petrol bike. Electrics have really good qualities over petrol from them not being petrol. Lithium ion batts have only been used since 1991 yes the whole tech has only been in use for 30 years and that was made for a sony device. Before 2030 I bet you we have a new much better batt tech and I hope the prices and infrastructure is there too, not as a replacement but as another option. I would love to try a hydrogen motorcycle too but as far as I know they do not exist in a useable form.

@@spicy110 yeah I know, and all I'm saying is petrol bikes aren't going away, so there's no need for a replacement anyway 🤷‍♂️ £20k is a very expensive toy. I hope they get much better too but in the next 8.5 years? I just don't see it. They new generation batteries they're going to be building at Volt in Blyth and Nissan in Sunderland are a slight improvement over the current ones, there won't be a quantum leap in technology before 2030, or the big automotive manufacturers would be hanging on for that, not spending £1 billion on a plant that would be outdated in 5-10 years. I wouldn't fancy a high pressure nitrogen tank that close to the plums in all honesty 🤣

Well there’s no classic engine to give you a gyro effect and the lack of vibrations and noise makes you focus on what actually happens around you and on the road. I don’t get the noisy, polluting and annoying combustion engine bikes anymore. My next one will be electric. Hell in the city since I bought electric bicycle I even sold the motorcycle. It was a dinosaur which was not been used anymore.

Like riding an oversized sewing machine. Good power. Average handling. And zero soul or personality. I didn’t dislike it. It’d be great for a commuter if it wasn’t so expensive. I just don’t know what it’s for.

Where is the scam? If you mean the way they lock things on bikes behind paywalls I do not agree with it and have voiced this. However they make bikes and people will buy them and it is down to them to do that. I just review a machine.

Zero motorcycle are a joke and a major ripoff. U are better off with an affordable chinese brand. I would never buy those zero great POS! This is the reason why zero will disappear as a company and go bankrupt. No wonder they are called zero, as in you get zero value! Stay away from this electric crap!💩💩💩💩
