I'm so glad you mentioned the Super Sessions record. The first time I ever heard His Holy Modal Majesty, my mind shattered
My old ada flanger bit the dust about a year ago. I spent a lot of time and money trying different replacements. This has never left my board since even after trying the new ada flanger. Thanks guys
This is one of the best and most helpful pedal review videos I’ve ever watched. It does a great job concisely explaining flanging and its origin, AND the how to use the pedal. Just found out about this product today and am picking mine up next week!
Ugh, why must you keep forcing me to give you all my money? :-)
OK, I got one of these a couple years ago. This pedal is still in my rig. Love it, brilliant. But after a few years, I need a Deluxe version, stereo. Perhaps an adjustment for how much modulation occurs before engaging the flange switch. Great pedal- love it.

Wow. This looks awesome. Added to the hit list for sure. Wasn’t looking for a flang but....
Finally, the sound of a flanger in my head is also on my computer!
One of the BEST Flanger ideas was used on the OUT solo by Ritchie Blackmore on "Knocking at your back door" and he turned the rate down and it had this ringing modulation effect and when he went to lower notes it had this great clicking of the bucket brigade chip as it was rolling over for the swell.....I copied it on my MXR Flanger and made that solo Awesome Live.....just try playing Eruption without the Phase 45 and you will get exactly what i am saying....
Why did I discover this pedal just now? This is by far the very best flanger I've ever heard. And you probably don't even make 'em anymore. Happens to me all the time. Or do you? Anyway, best flanger? Catalinbread Zero Point Tape Flanger. And it's not the only great pedal you make. I could name atleast 10 that I'd desperately love to own. The SFT is just unique, the Adineko, the Topanga, just to name a few of my favourates. It's funny. There are hundreds or maybe even thousands of pedal companies, but there are only five or six that seem to get it right with almost everything they put on the market. Catalinbread is one of them. So keep up the good work and please don't discontinue this beautiful flanger! And this is coming from someone who hates flangers normally. 😁👍
Jeezz Im issed this pedal now I gott get another one... love your stuff guys keep it up
Hey CB! My board now has a B.E.D. as well as a Zero Point. Thank you so much for giving us the coolest sounds of the 70s. Howard is my hero. Question: is it possible or practical to create a Zero Point that has one or two knobs to control ramping? Maybe ramp up and ramp down independently? An expression pedal?!
It’s a good pedal for what it does, a little subtle but nothing wrong with that. The ‘through-zero’ is not an accurate sim because it only reaches the zero sum but then freezes there, never going ‘through’ it and coming out the other side. You have to release the switch to get that effect. The additive mode glitches out into boominess if you hold down the switch too long, so you have to listen carefully and let go before that. If anyone with a ZP is reading this put it after a reverb pedal and reply with how you like that. I found it to be the very best place for this effect...
I love this pedal. What does the other trimpot do?
sure would be handy to tie that "secret fuzz" feature to an expression ped. also, too much trouble to toggle between pos/neg (toggle? give u any idears?) by unplugging it from the ps...
That red paisley Tele is nice
I have one and I really love it but it started making this crackling noise when I release the ramping switch. So I kind of think putting some contact cleaner down there would work but I'm afraid to do that
... drive like a demon from station to station ...
If you're not using dirt pedals, would putting the zero in the effects loop be the best way to use it?
Please stop it. Valcoder is my favorite pedal so far in my rig. Now I need to get this baby??? I have other expenses maaaan
Will this do the part Life in the Fast Lane & You're All I've Got Tonight withe the drums & guitar.
Why not add an expression pedal for the depth of flanging?

Hopefully this feature will be available in a future Deluxe model! I’d also like to see a Shepard Tone flanger option as well!
What does the other trimpot do? :)

Does anyone know?
Could u in essence do a crybaby pedal this way as well? Or have some type of spring loaded potentiometer? Would be a hell of a lot better than those damn mini wahs.
@75YBA

Thomas Ramsey Yeah, it's called an auto-wah, or you could just shove a spring under your treadle yourself.
Can it go from a completely dry signal to flanging with just the momentary foot switch?
@ReflectionMirrored
2 жыл бұрын
No. When you bring the effect out of bypass it’s default tonality is a kind of slow moving cone filtering effect, then once to hold the momentary switch down it sweeps through some seriously satisfying flanging until you let go and it returned to the cone filtering. Badass. I would enjoy a design that allowed what your question suggests though. I really hope a deluxe version with bypass to flanging capability will eventually come out!

@@ReflectionMirrored Yeah man, the effect should have a “fade in” and “fade out” mode/feature with the foot switch. It would sound more like how its done in a recording and not just “on” and “off”.
Anyone Throw a Uni-Vibe into the mix with the Zero point?

I was looking for a flanger and I found it.Zero point.
I love this pedal. But, in this moment, the value of dollar and "Real" (brazilian money) is too expensive and i can´t take it.I hope Santa read my letter...
really? i'd give up the internal gain pot for one that allowed you to dial in the zero pernt (i.e., just before, AT zero, al pernts in betwixt...), becuz, az iz (LIGHT az is!), you've made the zero WAY too elusive. and that, after all, is the reason why we're all here, i'nit? "house burning down," remember? don't get me wrong, i luvs the idear (tho' u MAY have forgotton that it took BOTH jimi AND eddie to pull the feat off...), but it might have been shortsighted to eliminate ALL the controlz for one, when it MIGHT have been smarter to simply ADD the one. when EYE use a tzf, i wanna hear that page RIPPED, followed by a vacuum whose length (AND where/when it occurs) is to be determined by MY imagination, & NOT the pedal's; just having the stomper is unpredictability enough, az iz (LIGHT!)...

Just got one yesterday and I was really disappointed with it. It crackled and it wasn't as clean as shown in this video. Also, they recommend to put it after the dirt pedals, yes, but what if you want to use your dirt from your preamp? This means putting it after your preamp in an effects loop. Then you have a classic scenario, where it can only handle line level. The manual doesn't say anything about the other trim pot inside the pedal...and once you touch that one, it's game over...hence why the new version doesn't give you access to it anymore. I know, that reading a manual is not manly, but for fuck sake: Why can't you write a better manual explaining exactly what the pedal can and cannot handle?!! When I called Mike, the truth finally came out: That this pedal isn't meant to be played in an effect loop of an amp, because it wasn't designed this way. So why don't you mention that in your manual?

+Krimson Le Diable Greetings from Sweden! about the crackling static sound, my experience also! i even had it exchanged for a new one, but same bad sound! WTF Catalinbread, sounds nothing like in the demo, no matter what i've tried. If i can't get Catalinbread to provide a fix for me then im going to return it.

+dinmentor Got mine today - I'm also getting the crackle, but i had the same problem with an Earthquaker Bit commander which was very picky about which PSU it would accept. Eventually I got a RAAD unit that worked well with the bit commander. That PSU and that pedal were sold via ebay a few months ago, but i'm going to buy another and see f that fixes the crackle with the zero point engaged, if so I'll post again.

+Olivier Vermeersch I'll need to try those out. So far anyone I've come across who is experiencing problems with these pedals in forums etc seems to be based in Europe or the UK, which leads me to wonder if the situation with RFI, ripple etc in the power supply is different this side of the Atlantic than in The USA where they are designed? (I'm not an engineer so excuse the pseudo-science!)

I have found this pedal is not line-level compatible (which is what many effects loops are) and so you need to use an effects loop that has a dedicate level control, or some other way to set the proper level. Also, I just learned this pedal can run at 18-volts for more headroom and it sounds INCREDIBLE.

Turn Off The Distortion Pedals - Please ! Showcase the Core Pedal .. not other pedals blinding the mix .
@TheCallen67

He says clearly in the video that, because there is no regeneration with the pedal, it requires harmonic content -especially distortion- to get the full effect. So the 'Core Pedal' is with stuff running into it. And at any rate he does play it alone from 5:00 to 6:00
Hmmmmmm..... subtractive mode seems a lot less useful than positive mode, especially in a live and real world use. So, I'm playing a solo, or powerful rhythm, and the sound cancels out to zero volume. Not very useful, especially when you are the only guitar in a trio. I liked the positive mode, but I will try to use negative mode - but I'm not to hopeful this is a useful sound in the REAL world of guitar playing.

The trick is to hold it til it almost or just barely cancels out then release it. As for real world application, see Hendrix House Burning Down and Axis, Queen Keep Yourself Alive etc.
