i see some players take the third hatch on 20 and then delay their second queen. Can someone tell me what the advantages/disatvantages of this variation are? I would say its harder to defend the first adapts because you have one less queen and you have to defend more space(third base). But what do you get out of it, more larva?

more larva, faster creep spread (can place spore before oracle), and you can delay overlords cause the hatch provides supply. you can compensate for the lack of 3rd queen by making more lings

The advantages of 20 3rd Hatch are: -u have creep intime to put a spore on your third for oracle first (which to be fair u dont need if u do the normal opening since you dont have oversaturation on 2 bases by then) -u can delay 2 overlords a bit each -no need to ever make 4 lings because u are afraid your third might get pylon blocked (not an issue with 2 potential third bases) The disadvantages: -2nd queen is delayed -if you want to have your 2nd queen timed somewhat well u need to delay speed (makes it so it wont be done for the first 2 adepts even if its only 1 chrono) -u wont have a third queen intime for the first 2 adepts -cant make the drones right away that u otherwise could so u lose some mining time -alot worse vs 2gate and core before nexus(not very common anymore) Overall both openings are fine but i don't see the advantages outweighing the disadvantages by any means, so i think taking the third at 30 supply is better.
