I was at Hollywood Park for this race.....the stretch run....I cried. ...... a big girl....bigger than most boys...but gentle as a lamb....loves people, especially kids, and those that bring her treats! Long live the Queen!!
I love how towards the end of the race you can't even hear the announcer because the crowd was cheering so loud. She brought to something to racing very few thoroughbreds have done.
Heart-stopping, nerve-wracking, tears and yelling in front of the tv - yes, I survived another come from behind, blowing my mind Zenyatta race. Wow! Thank you!
One of the great videos of her racing!! She really shows her stuff!! As for the 2010 BCC, Garrett Gomez said he did not want a rematch with Zenyatta because he knew how lucky he was that day. But that's horse racing. Traffic problems can always be an issue. One more stride and she'd have been in the winner's circle. Love this horse! She's big. She's a beauty. She's a sweetheart. She's a champion!
Zenyatta's speed at the last furlong (200 meters) was 65.54 km/h, that's a magnificent near 41mp/h ride. This statistic shows us that Zenyatta goes in the list of the 10 fastest horses. "Riding on Queen Z feels like a plane taking off, the only difference is that she's on the floor."

insane... the way she closes here is just mind-blowing. I imagine her like Florence Joyner just out-running them all
I NEVER get tired of watching this! Zeny, you'll ALWAYS be the queen....
Lawd have mercy! Gives me goosebumps even when I know the ending. She really kicked into gear here! A beautiful thing to see!!
I don't get tired of watching this. An amazing horse, beautiful.
Interesting bit of trivia: This race had been renamed the "Zenyatta Stakes" prior to her entering. The name was changed back to "The Lady's Secret Stakes" at the request of Her owners. After this amazing, heart pounding win it was changed once again, back to the "Zenyatta Stakes"..as it is known today
"To run second to the best horse in the world and one of the greats of all time is huge" -John Sadler
Watching Zenyatta win always makes me feel good inside
Why is it my heart pounds faster and faster EVERY time I watched the home stretch. I love both her and Rachel Alexandra. They help me rediscover why I love horses so much!!! :)
Hi still watch her race's in 2018 nice race zenyatta 💞

What a fun race to watch! I had the true HONOR of watching Zenyatta at the Breeders Cup last year....watch out boys, Zen in on the track!
Amen to that, LeeAnne. And mind you, Blame was in the box seat and had the run of the race the whole way in that BC Classic. And on his home track of Churchill Downs where he had never been defeated in a stakes race. Zenyatta was dead last as always, but she was spinning her wheels trying to get used to the surface at Churchill for about the first 4 or 5 furlongs of the race. She was cutting back Blame with every stride, and anyone who calls beating her by 6 inches kicking her ass is foolish.
HA! I feel you. I feel blessed to have seen her over those 4 years. Just an absolutely amazing run. Most exciting horse of my life. By FAR.
This never gets old for her. She is making a game of it now. This horse knows exactly what she is doing, its amazing. Next stop The Breeders Cup for number 20, in the Classic.
Z is just amazing! You think there’s no way she’s gonna win and she stretches out her stride and next thing you know she’s in the lead, what a horse!!!
"Her following just gets larger and larger and larger. I'm just thrilled that I could be here today to watch her get her 19th in a row. I haven't seen anything like her since Ruffian." -Chris McCarron

Vic calls races at Oaklawn Park
As a sports fan, I've been to a World Series game 7, a Stanly Cup final, Tiger's 3rd round at the 2008 US Open, An NBA Finals Game 7, The Rose Bowl and a Super Bowl. My greatest sports fan moment with always be watching Zenyatta run down her outmatched opposition in person. None of those other events can touch the special feeling you got when you saw Zenyatta run.
I was actually there that day and saw that very race. It was absolutely FANTASTIC! Zenyatta has that specialness about her that comes along every so often. She wants to win and finds a way to do so: Kind of like Secretariat. Some horses have a uniqueness about them that touches the human heart, and she is one of them that does.
Thank you for good moments jockeys sport and Good Luck Mike Smith with Zenyatta, USA
I watched the race on TVG but went back and watched it on ESPN and afterwards they show a close up view of her passing Switch, man the EXACT second she passes Switch, Z pricks both those ears in front and shuts it down. Just awesome. After all the races this weekend, the distance, and the long Churchill streach, the BCC is going to be great. If she wins the Classic again that would just be the most wonderful thing, if not she will still be one of the greatest in my book. Go Zenyatta.
"OMG , she's beat". Then she just flicks into that extra gear . Another jaw dropping performance ..
Zenyatta is God sent, we all know it. She will be 20-0 after the Breeder's Cup when they retire her. She will be remembered in history forever, She has not only the running win but the personality to go with it, I love her and her team. Thank you for the video, Michele
WOW Okay, here's what I did during the live race: watched calmly, inched to the edge of my couch, grabbed a pillow, started screaming so loud I couldn't breath, stuffed the pillow into my face, started crying, started sobbed, stopped watching, whispered "she'll never make it", yet somehow... when I opened my eyes... there she was. In front, ears pricked, smiling at the world. HOW DOES SHE DO IT?! We'll never know...
All of her victories are just scintillating. Whether she does it with ease or goes all out. Edge of your seat stuff.
I was there at Hollywood Park that day, and I still can't believe it. My friend and I were screaming at each other in horror that she was going to lose, that it was impossible. Not only did Z come through, but she did so effortlessly. It was like a religious experience watching this race in person. I'll never forget it - or her.
i cannot stop watching this magnificant horse, love her
Totally agree! No ass-kicking going on by any stretch of the imagination. Even Garrett Gomez knows how lucky he was that day.
Has she been doing well as a broodmare? I wonder if she'll get paired with American Pharoah. That'd be one amazing foal. Child of two all-stars.

@Annie Stokes it might be that it's the second gens that really catch her talent. Gotta keep an eye out
Never fails to put a smile on my face and heart out of my chest.
Pay particular attention to when Zenyatta comes off of the last turn. I've just caught this on replay. Switch's jockey was watching for Zenyatta to make her move. When he saw her coming, he took off on Switch. Zenyatta came off of the final turn, and got off of her correct lead. She went two or three strides with both front legs out in front of her. Smith had to immediately correct that, and still run down Switch with under a furlong left. Incredible.
Man the people love her, the crowd was so loud you couldn't even hear the race call. I love this horse off to the classic to defend her championship!!!
@sweetepnoy a great piece. Lots of tears of joy for me on that one. I'm going to savor every last bit until she retires and she'll be legendary in all of our hearts. We know we got to witness something phenomenal and beautiful. Thankfully we'll have youtube to always revisit her incredible run.
yes. absolutely....i've watched this clip hundreds of times and still get a massive adrenalin rush.......AND HERE SHE COMES !!!
We were at Hollywood Park to see this. 25,000 showed up, largest crowd in over 10 years.Switch bolted near the end and it actually looked like he was gonna win. But Zenyatta stormed ahead. Great race. Place was screaming loud.
Zenyatta is just a “awesome girl” on and off the track! What a horse!
Zenyatta will never be out of her "comfort zone" because she is always confident. She proved it at the Breeders' Cup 2009 when she beat all the boys, and she'll prove it again in November, not because she has to, but because she wants to win. Anyone across the pond want to take her on at the Breeders' Cup? Make her day. Make all of our day! Bring it! Zenyatta is confidence and brutal strength. She's shrewd, yet oh so sweet. Everything. We may not shut your mouth but she will.
I am so happy that I lived during the times of Secretariat, Ruffian, and Zenyatta. Possibly the threesome of horseflesh ever to hit a track. Too bad we didn't have Ruffian to enjoy for years the way we had Secretariat and Zenyatta. Zenyatta, hail to the Queen! I cannot wait for the Breeder's Cup Classic and her 20th win, and I cannot wait to see her babies!

Ruffian never beat male horses. Please don't compare her to Zenyatta
Imagine being Switch. She ran her heart out and gets absolutely eaten by Zenyatta
This race will tune her up PERFECT for the Classic.
That was mad crazy! Zenyatta is the best!
Pure, absolute, total joy and perfection and devastatingly beautiful I can't find it either Laura:)
I actually had tears in my eyes when Zenyatta was able to pull off this win. She looked vulnerable in this race at 8.5F w/ a field that included some talented fillies. Switch defeated Blind Luck on 6/6/10 by one length. Satan's Quick Chick set 2 track records at Presque Isle including a win in the 300K G2 Lexus Raven Stakes. Rinterval flipped in her stall and was scratched (I hope she's OK). Zenyatta is 6.5 years old and most champions are in decline at this age (e.g. Azeri, Lady's Secret).
Wow! She reminds me so much of Buckpasser; Zenyatta sure knows where the finish line is! Very special, one for the ages.
Switch isn't just some ordinary filly that jumped into this race as a long shot to beat Zenyatta. This 3yr.old filly is very, very talented. I think most consider Blind Luck the best 3yr.old filly in America right now, or close to it. Switch defeated Blind Luck in the G2 Hollywood Oaks back on June 5th. This filly is very legit, and has an outstanding turn of foot. For Zenyatta to run her down with less than a furlong left was something to see!! No matter what, she gets it done!!
She's going to go down in history with all the other great racers. =]
They're saving her last gear for her last race and it'll be her greatest win of all! I honestly thought she couldn't catch her in time but she was just playing with them. She knows exactly where the finish line is.
I was there! ❤️❤️❤️
This race is a great example of Zenyatta's greatness. With the late closing running style she had, always coming from well off of the pace to win her races, races over 8-1/2f were really almost too short for her. Especially if you had another horse in the race with a lot of speed on the front end like Switch had in this race. I think it was at this at this distance more so than at 9f that she was more vulnerable to defeat by another filly or mare.
Goose Bumps and shivers everytime
She earned that one big time !
Zenyatta is a big gal. She is bigger than most colts. She CAN run on dirt. She always comes from behind, it's her speciality. And the distance in the Breeder Cup will benefit her. #GOZENYATTA!
Look at how beautiful she is and how she runs is too.
How incredible. You know, there were times where I felt so disappointed about the way this mare was campaigned by her connections. Then I watch races like this, and I don't feel quite so cheated. She was remarkable, I don't care what anyone says. I see where some of the criticism is warranted - she didn't beat much after that outstanding 2008 season - but it's the WAY she did it. She COULD HAVE been the greatest HORSE of all time if given the chance. But even so, she was something truly special.
WOW what a performance that was it doesn't get anymore dramatic than that
I just love her !!!
I’ve never seen a race where people hold up posters… “Girl power!“ She’s a rockstar, and she knows it!…... BIG HAM!!! 😆LOL A big GIRL....standing 17.2 Hands... She loves people....especially kids...and as gentle as a lamb.
Zenyatta rules, she will retire 20-0, and will go down in history as the best horse. I adore this gorgeous, personable creature. I loved Secretariat too, but this beautiful creature is totally different from him. I will never forget her, I love her so much. Michele
Jealous of anyone who's gotten to watch her run in person. She truly was the Queen.
Switch is a fine horse, three years old and all. What makes this race pretty special is Zenyatta ran her down at 1 &1/16 miles.........not her ideal distance. A great tune up for the classic and at the further distance Zenyatta may not be denied.
@GBeret83 So true, love your comment, I believe she has so many gears left that are not pushed. If you notice the whip never touches her, she simply does not want to lose, I believe she has quite a bit of fire left in her when she wins, she is awesome. Michele
Ruffian & Zenyattathe two worlds Amazing Queens of the race track !
I LOVE Zenyatta!!!
@Peachycanyon Some additions: She has also beaten the winners of the Belmont Stakes, Beldame Stakes (2), Ruffian Handicap (2), the Jockey Club Gold Cup, Champion Stakes, Sussex Stakes, Man o'War Handicap, Spinster Stakes, Coaching Cloub American Oaks, the Mother Goose Stakes, the Lady's Secret Stakes, the Personal Ensign, the Santa Margarita Handicap, etc., etc. Shall I go on?
Switch was a fantastic horse. Multiple grade 1 winner and distaff winner. Switch was prob just a step below songbird level for comparison sake. Zenyatta raced safe but she still had to earn 19 wins. Thats why they run the race look what happen to aarogate in the san diego not saying accelerate a horse of the year in 2018 if their wasnt a triple crown winner and breeders cup winner in his own right wasn’t a superstar but to do what she did at the highest of level for so long was spectacular.
can somebody tell me what vic stauffer said at the final furrlong because idk what he said
@sweetepnoy I just checked it and shows "few showers" on friday and mostly clear with a 10% chance of rain with a high of 50 degrees. Hope it warms up some, but, looks like we're having a very chilly fall. Keep our fingers crossed on the weather.
Im English yet will be rooting for her in the BCC. Its a fairytale story if she pulls it off yet again. I don't think she would beat Sea the Stars last year though. She is similar to Zarkava in how she wins her races and that would have been a classic between them. So she needs to win and they need to create a film about her. Everytime i watch her Zenyatta she puts me on the edge of my seat like the the great Kauto Star.
man, that kick at 1:54..........it's like she has some sort of nitrus turbo that ignites when needed.
I think it will be a miracle if Zen can pull out another BC Classic. I almost wish they would just let her retire and make wonderful Zen babies. Just want her to stay safe and healthy for a long, long time. She has already given me 19 heart attacks! LOL She's certainly never boring.
I was there and it was in-cred-ible!
Switch ran a huge race!!! Zenyatta ran her down easily!!! Another WOW!!!!
"Zenyatta is like a guided missile," said Moon de French trainer Bob Baffert of the mare's stretch kick. "She's got radar and locks down on the leader."
19-0, Perfection !!!
What I can't believe is the number of people who have yet to spot the reason why Zenyatta ran Switch down so late in the race? Watch Zenyatta closely after she comes off of the final turn. She completely gets off of her correct lead for about 3 or 4 noticeable strides. Striding with both front legs out in front of her at the same time. Watch, as Mike Smith immediately slaps Zenyatta at the top of her right leg. To get her back on her right lead. Corrects the problem, then run's down Switch.
GREAT RACE
What an awesome mare!
Awesome!!
why oh why have i never heard of this horse until about 2 weeks ago ????? just as im about to follow her career , i hear she's retired. Major Bummer !!
@Venckman thanks Venckman, feel free.
I miss her.
It's a golden rule that a closer does not win slow fraction races. 25 and 49 permit front-runners and stalkers to retain their kick and make it impossible for a deep closer to catch them. The golden rule does not apply to Zenyatta. What a remarkable and beautiful mare.
I LOVE THIS HORSE!!!!
@CoconutThoroughbred Have a great friend, top equine surgeon - she just told me this today: "Zenyatta runs like Secretariat. Hangs in the back and then drops the hammer" True words!
@Venckman wow i took at least 10 times replaying that and came outt with nothing and you just hear it in a snap. i must have bad hearing
@schardy80 A BCC and equine immortality are hers already. To me, this season has all been icing on the cake.
@Venckman Maybe he has used the whip occasionally, but it is rare, I come from a family of horse breeders and I watch the races like a hawk. She is awesome and I know he shows her the whip sometimes, but if you notice it is rarely used. She just wants to win, with her ears pricked forward, always.
I've decided I'm going to make a 720 mile drive and pay the inflated ticket prices to see Zenyatta race in the Classic. I don't care how she performs. She's already proved herself several times over to her real fans. She doesn't owe us anything. This is going to be a very exciting Breeder's Cup with a lot of extremely talented horses making their final race. Anybody who can predict with certainty that a horse will win or lose is selling a false bill of goods (e.g. Andy Beyer). Go Zenyatta!
Even when you think she's beaten, this mare still get's it done. Switch is certainly no push over either. This is the same filly, for those who may not know, that beat Blind Luck in the 2010 Hollywood Oaks. Switch is very talented 3yr.old filly. But got ran down by a runaway train today.
@205seeme She actually didn't start racing until she was a month shy of 4.
Rachel Aelxandra was set to race Zenyatta in three different races and they pulled her out all three times. So you tell me
@4444IAmLegend. Check your reading comprehension. The discussion is that Zenyatta did NOT get her ASS KICKED by Blame since she lost by a short head not that she didn't lose. She was going faster with every stride and he was not. The icy dirt in her face earlier really bothered her. Man O'War didn't lose by a nose either it was half a length and there were no starting gates then just a tape barrier, he was being circled. Best horse does not always win.
@sweetepnoy I'm pretty sure Ruffian never faced more than a couple of Grade 1 winners in her career. And I'm pretty sure a sighting of Personal Ensign outside of Belmont Park was almost as a rare as a photo of the Loch Ness Monster. Nostalgia makes people forget certain details, or at least only selectively remember them.
How does she know?
@Snauzer67 If she runs back to this effort she'll be tough in the Ladies Classic. That one is shaping up to be an incredibly good race.
What about the other 19 ?
@wallyszabo Breeder's Cup Classics are NOT restricted. And the Classic is the Super Bowl of horseracing. The best come to run in the entire series and the best males in the world run in the Classic.
