Zenyatta A Perfect 19 For 19 After Victory In Lady's Secret

Спорт

Making her final start in Southern California at the place where she has been stabled throughout her brilliant career, Zenyatta remained undefeated with a thrilling victory in the $250,000 Lady's Secret Stakes Saturday at Oak Tree/Hollywood Park.
The race was one of four Grade I events on the card.
Before an extremely enthusiastic crowd of 25,837, the 6-year-old daughter of Street Cry and the Kris S. mare Vertigineux won for the 19th time -- matching the streak of Peppers Pride, who earned her wins in races restricted to New Mexico breds -- with a strong rally to defeat 4-1 second choice Switch by a half-length.
The victory was an unprecedented third in a row in the Lady's Secret for Zenyatta, who is owned by Jerry and Ann Moss and trained by John Shirreffs, and enabled her to become the leader in career earnings by a female thoroughbred.
The $150,000 payday pushed her bankroll to $6,404,580, surpassing Ouija Board, who retired in 2006 with earnings of $6,312,552.
Winning for the eighth time at Hollywood Park, Zenyatta, who trailed for more than six furlongs under jockey Mike Smith, completed the 1 1/16 miles over Cushion Track in 1:42.97. She ran the last sixteenth of a mile in less than six seconds.
The 1-10 favorite, Zenyatta returned $2.20 and $2.10. There was no show wagering.

Everytime you race, you add this flare of drama. The one that makes all of us hold our breath, the one that until your very last stride makes us believe this is it, that it all ends here, and then out of nowhere this amazing burst of speed sprints you first across that line. It's like you sees something that we can't see, something that makes you want to get there first. Or is it because you know we're watching, and you simply like the show. Whatever makes you do this, God bless you for it.

i do not about the best of all time...but she looks like a different species all together, in every way, the build, stature, the running style...totally different to the rest. Even at the end when every other horse is gasping at full stretch...she seems to pass them with ease...does not look like the full throttle mode yet, unlike others

Why is that? Have you ever heard of Lady's Secret, Ruffian, Gallorette, Personal Ensign, Busher, Bewitch, Twilight Tear, Affectionately, Susan's Girl? You are clearly deluded if you think that just because Zenyatta only lost one race in her career that makes her the best female racehorse of all time. There were plenty of great fillies and mares before Zenyatta, who ran harder, farther, against colts, and smashed records. Zenyatta is great, yes, but in no way is she the greatest female racehorse of all time.

Reane Vermaas Every single horse you named i would not fear in a race with Zenyatta. I have been professional horse player for 30 years and i would bet Zenyatta with no second thought if matched up against any of those horses.. She will catch anything put in front of her and she proved that against the best MALE horses in the world of 2009 and 2010..

Rob Talstra I'd like to see Zenyatta let Ruffian get away by 10+ lengths and then run her down. The same Ruffian who set a stakes record in every race she ran. Zenyatta regularly beat moderate female competition, only ran against males twice in her career and got beaten by Blame, a good horse, but not a champion. Gallorette regularly ran against the nation's best males, in fact 55 of her 72 starts were run against males, including Hall of Famer Stymie. Lady's Secret had one of the greatest single seasons in horse racing history, no horse has won as many Gr1 stakes races in a season, and four times taking on the nation's best males, including a win in the Whitney, the first female to do that since Gallorette. Busher won 10 of her 13 starts at 3 and beat colts and older males, including Hall of Famer Armed in track record time while conceding 4 pounds. In her 6 year old season Bewitch ran 15 times, 12 against males. She also beat Triple Crown winner Citation. In her 3 year old season Twilight Tear won 11 straight races and defeated males including Horse of the Year and Hall of Famer Armed and champion Devil Diver. I'm sorry, but beating up on average female competition and only facing males twice, losing once, does not constitute the greatest female racehorse of all time. Like I said in the previous post, there were plenty of great fillies and mares who ran more, and often beat the nation's best males, including Hall of Famers and Horse of the Years. With no second thought I would put my money on the horses I mentioned if matched up against Zenyatta.

This mare is faster on conventional dirt than she is synthetics anyway. So many times, we've all bared witness to Zenyatta running down the leader of a race on the wire. But always on synthetic surfaces. In both of her Apple Blossom win's on dirt at Oaklawn, Zenyatta not only caught her rivals. But pulled clear of them by 4 or 5 lengths as well. The boys have to give weight to Zenyatta, then race her on a surface she's actually faster over. That's like giving someone with a gun the ammo for it.

I could look it up, not sure. But this race doesn't seem that far before the 2010 Breeder's Cup that Zenyatta lost. Her only loss. She was hanging just a little here... You watch this race, then the Breeder's Cup. She races against males in the Breeder's Cup. Churchill Downs with that deeper track. I am thinking that everything adds up to Zenyatta coming up just a little short. Maybe a hair tired, maybe moved a little late by Mike Smith in the Breeder's Cup. A nose short of perfection
