I stumbled literally on the Ozrics at Glasto in 85 or 86, they had set up their big tent in a field somewhere on the outskirts of the festival and I was attempting to find my tent as I had been out all day at the pyramid, new age, nme or whatever stage having a roaring time. Anyway off my box with little energy left I heard this amaixzing sound , fantastic mastery of their instruments and no lyrics just pshcoydelic music at its best. I will never forget it Sploosh and other great tracks at 2AM off my ) tree on audio magic , Thanks OT what a great time for music , free festivals , no mobile phones (*only car phones) no police on site , we were all free and having a whale of a time :)

The atmosphere created by the Ozrics is really unique. I could not make it without listening to them at least once a week. They are just magic. Their music brings happiness. It's like floating in the universe. Pity that Brandi seemed to have left. Her presence and her bass play added a lot.

My brother and I were at the Stonehenge free festival in 1983,wandering around after eating space cakes and LSD,we came upon this band who had set up their own big tent away from the main stage, with their own sound system and a generator for power,(as did other unknown bands from up and down the country),but this group of cosmic space cadets who were jamming together really caught our attention,i was already into the bands like Gong,Here and Now,Hawkwind,Steve Hillage etc,so I was familiar with tha style, but these geezers were taking psychedelic progressive rock to another level even back then(1983/1984).It turned out that it was this lot(Ozric Tentacles)forming and performing this music that just blew our heads right off(and would of with or without tha space cakes and LSD lol)and i was hooked there and then. Also seen em perform in 1989 at the Treworgie Tree Festival, where yet again my beloved brother and I were right off our heads om tha black micro dot LSD that was in abundant supply at this fuckin brilliant festival, and again were blown away. Those were historic moments in the free festival days, and I think this festival was one of the first were Acid House Sound systems started turning up,which was great at first but ultimately finished off the free festival scene because it was getting bigger and bigger, with younger city kids coming out into the countryside(where most free festivals were held obviously)and having no respect for nature, leaving heaps of trash and shit everywhere they went, not all obviously, but something most of the serious so called New Age Traveller communities never did, they always cleaned up after their free festivals, and I know that cos I was one once(still am up here in me head lol). Those were amazing times, and I am certainly grateful for those experiences, and it makes me realize that todays youth do not have a clue as to how much freedom has been taken away, and how much their minds are being polluted and controlled by so called social media, face crap,i mean face book, twatter, sorry i meant twitter and all that other bullshit that's devoid of any true face to face interaction,i remember when a friend was actually real and not just an empty bunch of words, maybe it's cos I'm 54 now and can see how much things have changed, which I know is inevitable, but from where I am looking, the changes I see forming around us ain't good people, technological innovation and so called progress at the expense of this Earth and Nature, the very environment we depend om for our survival,is pure insanity.Love Peace and Light to all, especially anyone else out there who was at these magical free festivals

I've been listening to Ed Wynnes solo album and back catalogue of ozrics through all this blm riots and foaming at the mouth. The deaths and destruction is horrific. Thank goodness this music exists to free your mind and soul from the anger and aggression that seems to be flooding the airwaves. I've seen ozrics 14 years ago and met steve hillage and I'm grateful that these guys have shaped the meaning of music. I'm 55 and I have loved this music since 82. Hawkwind hillage Tim Blake and until these guys turned up it was dying out. The sunsets the Autumns and winter scapes have been enhanced by the ambient trip music. It instills peace and curiosity with nature. I used to go cycling to remote places and pick magic mushrooms while playing ozrics on my walkman..man what times what scenes what sunsets. I understand what you mean about the youth of today and social media it rots free thinking. I'm glad I grew up in the 60s n 70s. People may look back and say they where hard times but I look back on them as innocent and with the help of good music dreamy.

I caught the very tail end of the free festivals days at a couple of freefests at Letham, Scotland. 94 and 95 I think. 94 was epic Sound system in the local barn and a couple of others in the woods - Shout out to a Glasgow system with cut up dolls on their van. Can't remember the name. They were awesome. They even had fire works at the end. Just amazing. 95 was virtually a bust. By then they had blocked off the site so no traveller vans could get into the site and had to be in the farmer's field nextdoor. It just felt a lot more threatened and no longer a fun festival. Police cars on the way there and everything. What harm did it do? Fucking conservative Killjoys. They need removing from Scotland and the world. People need to live their lives the way they want and if they are not harming people let it be. ... I should say my first experience with Psilocybin was this festival and It really made me see why techno was so awesome. As a guitarist it had been a mystery to me before that. 2 dance music home produced albums later... Valuable experience!!! Any Musical Movement that brings people together is what we need to unite people and break down barriers. Rave was an awesome movement just like Punk. We need a new generation of that spirit. More Luv and Peace.

Back here again. These fucking tories are away to make protesting illegal if it annoys someone. There also going after the free press and writing seditious material will carry a life sentence. How the fuck did we get from there to here. The answer I come up with is Murdoch. He's the single biggest cancer on the world right now. It's time someone took note of Julian's Cope's Song. Ain't only the one way to be free. Fascists are all I see One too many Buttfuckers controlling me But Suicide or Vigilante To up the ante - Which is my way? Ain't but the One Way Ain't but the One Way Ain't but the One Way... (gunshot) To be free Step into view... and about time Make yourself some enemies + step out of line We need a deadly assassin And we need to do it today 'Cause the greed inside the Greedheads ain't ever gonna go away... Grab yourself some friends, man And grab yourself a good plan And get yourself a hitman And work out a time span And aim for the Headman... Then lie low Luv and Peace.

As amazing as I think this band is, one of the facets of this jewel that stands them apart form other groups of similar sound is the organic percussion (rather than electronic). And, to everyone's credit, they have had a handful of drummers through their history that simply groove in such a rock-steady way that it is mind blowing. They are like organic metronomes regardless of the complex or multiple time signatures. If Ed's guitar is the voice, then their drummers have been the heartbeat.

I agree she plays some great pads for all the mayhem riding above it. Watch her in the live vids. She holds the entire group together... Love it!

Sorry. The Ozric's are labeled as a 'psychedelic space rock' group by detractors. Put the drummer and both keyboards on risers, and they become one of the most 'progressive rock' bands in the world. Their 'average' music is better than most groups good music. Their history is nothing short of incredible! Love 'em live the few times I've gotten to see them. No disappointment there! How they always have incredible drummers is apparently a band secret that they will never share! "Audio THC right here on earth". (Thanks Frank Zappa for the quote)

I just stumbled on these guys about a month ago. Why am I this late to the game, but damn better late than never. I totall agree with everything said. This is an entirely different phase of progressive. I think they opened a full spectrum wormhole in the fabric of existence. And thanks for the Zappa quote!

For a while in the 1990s and early 2000s, Ozric was sort of the top progressive space band going, great recordings and albums, and Great concerts! (one of the best was the Waterfall Cities tour with Ed, Seaweed, Rad, et. alt. Fantastic). Strangeitude, Arborescence, Jurasic Shift, then later Hidden Step, and Spirals in Hyperspace were all fantastic. Ozric usually has a great drummer, going back to my all time favorite: Merv Pepler, then Rad (Conrad Prince) who were both excellent. Merv left in early 90s to pursue Eat Static, and they were innovating sort of EDM proggy dance mix. They went through a lot of lineup changes, and as someone else mentioned, since Brandi, have been somewhat different. Maybe I need to try to connect with more recent stuff. I sort of got more interested in the whole Eat Static world, and Merv side projects: Hi Fi Companions, etc. But for anyone that likes 70s esque spacey, fusion like music (Gong, Hawkwind, Steve Hillage, Djam Karet, Kraan, and the like) Ozric almost always presents an exciting and interesting musical journey! Ed Wynne is a genius, and great on keyboard too !
