    Great game! Wanted to ask, are both Extract and Manipulate Fate in the deck for exiling Squee, or are there other tricks you can do with them that I'm not seeing?

  • @afonsobrandao5627

    @afonsobrandao5627

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes, they are there almost exclusively to get squee into exile. Extract can occasionally be used offensively to exile key pieces from your opponent's decks. You can also use it as an emergency alternate wincon if your walking ballista/finale of devastation is somehow exiled. Once you have infinite card draws from food chain + squee + omnath and infinite mana with dockside + emiel, you can cast extract on someone, cast timetwister, shuffling it back to your deck, draw your entire deck again, cast noxious revival on timetwister, and repeat this loop until everyone has an empty library.

  • @SplitSecond

    @SplitSecond

    3 жыл бұрын

    If you hear the commentary and see Baal's gestures he wanted to steal the Magistrate the turn before. He had it in hand for 1 turn already and he had mana drain to try to do something else, the thing is he was attacked for a bunch of damage and at that point in time he thought that having himself the magistrate could draw even more attention to him from the David, so, despite knowing he wasn't doing the best play he stole Nylea as a way to get more out of his Zareth defuse the stompy damage from David and unlocking Sequeira to be able to police the board in case Brandão would go for dockside extortionist lines. Sure it wasn't the best play, sure he also knew that ;) that's that.

    I mean, you could build around any strategy to want. And any strat you build could work, you just have to find a playgroup with an interest of just playing around with different things. Personally, I like building around a voltron strategy because the cards aren't really expensive because it's not a very common strategy to build around.

    Baal knew the best play was to take out the magistrate (it's watchable through his motions) , he had that lined up in his head one turn cycle before, but David was misled to attack him the turn before, in the end Baal's play was a bit careless and he kinda intended to throw the responsibility to deal with Omnath to someone else.

    Depends on the decks. In this match, Ashaya definitely has that role. Omnath can be used for value and combo preparation as well. Anowon is pure value (in Baal's deck), while Zagras in mine functions as a board control enabler (with pingers) and can be an outlet in some of my combo plans. Hey hey, I poked Baal about it. In the meantime, it's here www.moxfield.com/decks/i34soxc-REmGC9bDw4dKmA Goal is mostly board control through pingers and Zagras. You can use thornbite staff, goblin sharpshooter and deathbringer thoctar to kill everything on the board. End game combo plans are Mikaeus + thoctar + sac outlet (or a pinger with thornbite or sharpshooter), triskellio nor ballista (same as thoctar). You also have Kormus Bell + Urborg + Pinger to kill people's lands (and, ofc, the "untap on kill" effects let you control everyone's lands forever). The deck felt pretty fun on test. I think it needs some kings worked out (namely whether Fiery Emancipation boosts pingers enough - or Zagras, since he can now 2-shot people) to warrant staying.

    That specific list was running tainted pact and it was hard enough for Baal to pull a good landbase to support it. Even without it, with a normal landbase, off color fetches are still good as you can fetch different lands depending on your needs, but if you don't own OG Duals then maybe you can cut some off. The fetches allow you to smooth your draws by thinning the deck off of lands.

    Omnath had different lines to go off to, but they are indeed all the usual cEDH combo lines. cEDH is mainly defined by a group of strategies where all decks circle around. We do try to showcase different lists now and then, but when showcasing new commanders we won't go away from the best options to build them just because they'll be the same old lines. What we mean is we won't cripple ourselves while building a commander to attempt to do something different "just because". We do try different builds when we see there's potential and the deck can still be a solid build. if we can we'll try to showcase these commanders later in the future, but you did see the deck revolved around machine-gunning opponents creatures to a point where you could just combo off :)
