I recently switched from OPNsense to pfSense mainly because I wanted to see what's on the other side of the fence, but this video really makes you want to go back Really am looking forward to use some of the Next generation firewall features :D

Thanks for watching! I was in a similar predicament, I have been using pfsense personally for many years, and have a number of my clients using the Netgate security appliances. When I was doing research for my channel I saw pfsense was well covered so decided to give OPNsense a go knowing it was a fork of pfsense. To be honest I will now rather use OPNsense combined with Zenarmor to have easy access to NGFW features without breaking the bank and it takes 10 minutes to setup.

@@ls111cyberEd I was looking at Sophos because I wanted to try some NGFW stuff but their free home license didnt include features I need and their other licenses are pretty pricy for a homelab ...

@@Felix-ve9hs sorry you didn't find Sophos fulfillment. I'm a Sophos firewall user and I find it offers everything a ngfw has. What feature you need? Maybe I can answer. Sophos XG does offer the antivirus, and botnet protection (called ATP advanced threat protection) which the free version of Zenarmor does not offer.

I wonder if it should be zenarmor plus crowdsec or if they compete aka do the same thing and are hence mutually exclusive?

Hi Philippe, thanks for watching! Zenarmor and CrowdSec are two different services and both offer their own unique benefits, they don't necessarily compete with one another. Zenarmor as you saw in this video is a next-gen firewall that offers features like L7 packet inspection, application/web control etc. traversing your network. Where on the other hand, CrowdSec is global IP reputation service, basically maintaining a large list of malicious IP's collected by the community, and then using this list to ban/defend against these threat actors trying to for example brute force attack your servers. If you have not seen already, I have a video covering CrowdSec with a custom integration I created to ban threat actors attempting to launch injection attacks on our web app's behind OPNSense, you can check it out here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hYimspKoZMzAhZc.html

I guess my question would by "Should I run both zenarmor and piHole (which I am doing now) or can I stop using piHole and free up some Pi's"?

You should. Zenarmors ad blocking isn't really even aimed at home use. It won't just block annoying adds, it blocks all access to anything from adds (meaning you won't be able to enter any website through google search by clicking advertised link, you have to choose non advertised links or type the address yourself), it literally blocks everything without giving you the option of "enter this site or install / buy this program WITHOUT seeing adds" which is why I think they are planning the release of bypass pin code. I wouldn't use Zenarmors ad blocking if only reason you would use such, is to just avoid seeing adds and nowhere around adds preventing you from working or studying because of some tiny update or introduction video about new features of a program you use, but don't really need to use the features in question or being asked to rate the program from time to time. It's good when you have to stay 100% productive and can't really answer any polls or give reviews, but it doesn't work for those, who just don't want to see adds.

Hello, thanks for the question, as far as I know you can only block using the predefined categories or by adding a specific IP/URL to the blacklist, you cant use keywords specifically.

I dont know if this is a firewall or just an extention?? cause why are we running it on pf or opnsense why are they not just saying to run it on Linux as they have in their videos?? why running it as a plugin?? there is somethings its not doing and it needs a firewall to do that job... So I will test it out and see what it is..... Saying Zenarmor Next-Gen Firewall I will seriously quesiton that cause with this video I will say : Zenarmor Next-Gen Firewall plugin that will be a better subject line.

I feel the format of your video has buried the lead, and I found myself bored after only a minute or two. You should start the video with the absolutely most compelling aspects of this software: Scenarios it prevents, how it works, what it does, how it'll keep me safe. Instead you being by showing off stuff like the dashboard and the company's website. This is like showing someone a supercar and starting the tour of the car with the trunk and seatbelts. Not being mean, just offering constructive feedback.
