Zen, Vipassana, & Becoming Impermanence ~ Shinzen Young
Shinzen talks about impermanence as "emptiness is form", and as in zen an energy that you can ride on, that you can become. He then compares some of the characteristic qualities of zen and vipassana practices and their differing expressions of the same enlightenment. Filmed in Nov. 2009 at Mt. Carmel Spiritual Centre in Niagara Falls.

I've never heard impermanence described this way. "Ride on impermanence."
Dhamma is Dhamma. Prosaic is not a problem. The mind often gets bored. It likes stimulation.
powerful comparison
Here . . . Shinzen is emphasizing that Impermanence can be experienced as an Energetic Fullness (Chi) . . . which is a Taoist slant to Zen "Nothingness". That Nothingness is "nothing" because when we experience it there's no manifestation of, or preference for, any particular thing in it. It's not missing ANY-THING . . . contains EVERY-THING . . . but it's NO-THING specifically. When that everything manifests as something(s) specifically . . . is when the Emptiness manifests as Form.
Clear as mud
Notice that Shinzen teaches in the vipassana style and not the zen style. That itself is an interesting point.
Thinking analytical Vipassana observing impermanence(annicca), no self as thing(annata), and suffering(dukka) helps people to get the correct context and let go/abandon painful exaggerations, and ease through and off making them. People going to notice when they make emotional exaggeration they get Suffering(Dukka). Suppose the Zen bunch best not get carried away with form too much less they become bouncy drama queens, LOL Easy to suck on form. Got to admit thought got a guilty pleasure for highly dramatic music - music is formless yet it can make whooping crescendos.
Can't say flux without lux (light)!
Vipassana practice is not dull, prosaic, etc. That is just a bias, nothing more. I'm disappointed that he would frame it so simplistically, as if it is a fact. Vipassana practice is as multifaceted as any human who practices it, just like Zen.

should have been obvious the moment he said Hinayana
This person says something, says something that its not true. He says that Vipassana is not energic. Actually in my case is exactly the oposite. When i pratice vipassana my mind becames calm and im musch more lucid, i listen to my body, my breathing, my body sensations, without judment. Then theres like a peacul energy that surround you. You became more happy, creative, awaken, and balanced. You gain a energy that allows you to deal with the problems of your day by day.

I practise in Thailand 20 vippasan retreet become peace mind but he tell truth zen is much more vitalic zen is highg level of all budist method is supreme make people wake up 100% become same like buda atainment zen for sure bring you there ..vippasan give you peace slow but not comlite wake up is like nice slow bright dream wich you gona liket
"Vipassana is prosaic...dull, etc...Zen has a springy vitality." This comparison certainly makes Zen seem a much more desirable, enjoyable practice than Vipassana. Why not just go with Zen? Responses welcome.
Vipassana is the basis of how mind and matter interacts, how thoughts originate and affect our life... Mindfulness is based on Vipassana. Very poor description
