Hi Annette, I have to say that playing this kind of music is a medicine for me as much as it is for the listener - it really helps me to slow down and follow the natural rhythm of the breath, and the presence that accompanies it ..🌿

Just sitting. Clouds floating by. Snow melting on the mountain. So much space. My shakuhachi is silent, listening to yours. Thank you. 🙏

Language fails to express the gift you brought me at a time of deep healing. It's been two weeks since my e-,bike accident that shattered my femur and brought my incessant movement to a halt. Safe to say I have repeatedly listened to your masterpiece over this time and it allowed me to wander the misty mountain trails from my bed with long pauses in the stillness of enormity you achieve in notes that expand into vast effervescence...like incense smoke curling a path only to disappear, leaving a fragrance of peace. I am called to begin this journey and have committed to acquire a flute once again on my feet. As a student of zen and meditation I bow to the discipline and humility necessary for your achieving such purity of grounded yet etheric sound. Please know as I'm sure you do that your commitment heals the heart and brings mind round just as the waves of sea rounds all things.... Thank-you brother. I can feel my bones mend in such resonance, this time to return to the rush without hurrying. Something arrived that forever calmed my soul...~{{♡}}~

Hi Freyda Thank you for the connection. "Extending beyond breath -- drawing the mind to peace..." I love those words you wrote - as it shows me that my purpose in studying the shakuhachi, in and playing and recording these sounds, is recognised... as the search for peace is what lies behind all of it... I do believe that sound and silence have a lot to teach us and to reveal to us .. and if my music can bring just a few moments of peace to just a few people then I will feel my time has not been wasted! 🙏🏼

Hi, I really appreciate your comment. I can feel the connection between yourself and my music. The shakuhachi is a difficult instrument to master, and I think all these years I have been learning, it has been to achieve some level of integration between sound, breath and awareness, that seems to be encapsulated in your comment. Hi Freyda, so you have ads appearing every 10 minutes when you listen to this? Some people complain to me that it is happening even though I don't see it myself and I find it very frustrating to think that might be happening, even we don't use any ads and have all ads settings turned off....

@@ZenHeartMedicineMusic Hi Adrian, no, I have never had any ads interrupt my listening to your pieces. The only thing that sometimes happens is that the video stops and KZread puts up a "video paused - continue to listen?" button. Annoying if I'm meditating or resting but certainly not as bad as ads. BTW, do you have any plans to make any more of these incredible long meditative sets?

It's a long journey .. to find the balance between innovation and tradition, but as my teacher Yokoyama said, when we play these ancient pieces it should not be to try to capture some ancient sound, but rather to allow the spirit of the tradition to come alive as a living spirit...

And the way you control the breath and the air "column", the harmonics...

yes the subtle harmonics are more easy to hear sometimes on recordings than in a live situation, where the microphones pick up all the tiny subtleties in the sound .. it's like a miniature symphony sometimes!

The, yes. frustration in the challenge in my 'trying' to catch and reproduce through the studio, mircrophone, the full on intricacies of sound and other of which the senses embrace and are embraced by while playing outside in the symphony of the song which sings the universe.....

you can do it. It's almost infinitely complex and very simple, all at the same time. I would recommend a Yuu flute ($180 new, 80-100 used). It is a near exact copy of a 1.8 pro flute, cast in resin. Impervious to sun, water, and just about anything else. You can take it anywhere!

Yes a real video would be good .. although in this case I wanted to create something to use for meditation and yoga that would focus more on the sound rather than image ...check out my film of Seijaku and Yugure.

Thanks for your great skill and music. Im 21 and started to play the dizi recently and want to get a shakuhachi next. Sadly its very hard for me to learn since there are no teachers around and i have to strengthen my lungs. But listening to your and other music of these instruments gave me power i never felt before. Hi Rampagee where abouts do you live? There are some very simple and cheap practice flutes that can be ordered, ones that look good and make a great sound too.... And there are lots of tuition videos online , and also people teaching online .. let me know if you would help with some connections to make it happen ....

Thank you Adrian for your wonderful music. Please can i ask Is there a special breathing technique need to master for playing well shakuhachi ? I tried to match your single breath in blowing shakuhachi with my normal long single breath as i meditate but i failed😢

Beautiful. Can You make an even calmer song...with frequent simple melody...not too high notes?

That's a great suggestion ..something even more minimalist - something with minimum distraction from the central frequency of calm meditation... I will do this when I have time.. Well, it has happened. Three times this video has been interrupted by commercials! The first time it was when it was a mix of your videos only but posted in my feed as a "youtube mix" . Then I exited that and returned to your channel via my subscriptions list and chose this video from there. Again interrupted by commercials, multiples. Hi Freyda it is a bit soul-destroying that we are unable to turn off the ads from this video. Even though they do not play on my other videos. We wrote to them but did not yet receive a response. A few other people have been commenting on this, including some disparaging comments about greed being the downfall of all, and the totally un-zenlike nature of listening to this music with ads playing. It's very disappointing to me - firstly to be on the receiving end of comments like that, but more importantly just the frustration of not being able to turn the ads off!

Love the breathiness an tones of this shakuhaki, could you tell me what key it’s in pls? Sounds like a low g or f ? Not sure. Also best place to buy from, I’m in UK Many thanks Paul 21.16 gmt Uk cheers Peace’s an great wishes to all around the world

Hi Paul. I'm playing a low F shakuhachi made by John Kaizan Neptune. He is the best person to order one from because he is one of the really best makers but his prices are much lower than the Japanese makers. If you are interested I can put you in touch with him, but you should be aware that the price is around $3000 ... John lives in Japan but can ship to the UK. He has a waiting list and if you ordered it now it might be around 6 months or more before it was ready and you don't need to pay anything until it's finished. However the other important thing to be aware of is that the long, low flutes are difficult to play because of the stretched finger positions. Do you already play a 1.8 or other shakuhachi?

I found many of these videos are made with shakuhachi 1.8 and cause of this I,ve found hard to connect whit the sound of my flute, using as a refference higher tone flutes. Do you recommend some exrcises or notation? or could I have acces to this music sheet for practice? Bleesing you!

I've tried and failed to have the ads removed. Several times. It's very frustrating for me. And although I agree with the sentiments of your comment, it surprises me that very few people comment on it , and people still seem to find it easy to tune in to the music and appreciate it. Personally I also find the ads very distracting, but in terms of the involvement of 'greed' im anything to do with my process of making and publishing these videos ... I can assure you i hasve not received 1 cent from KZread and I do all of this for love of music and sharing these frequencies.

Hi Georgii - this is beyond my control. I don't add any ads to my videos, or have settings activated in whcih the ads should be playing. Several people have complained about this and we have done everything we can to have them not appear. It is very annoying and frustrating to me, especially when I receive comments like yours, and yes it defeats the whole point of the music. I wish I could find a way to fix this.. So sorry.
