Zelda: The Story of Shigeru Miyamoto
Ойындар
With Breath of the Wild just around the corner, now seems like a great time to visit one of the coolest stories in Nintendo history. When Shigeru Miyamoto was a child, he'd wander the hillsides of Sonobe Japan. One day, the adventures he went on would become the basis of the very first game in the Legend of Zelda franchise.
This video is admittedly imperfect, but having spent months now struggling with a new, more detailed artstyle, I think it's time to call it good. Please ignore the occasional flicker and audio pop - we're doing our best, and we're still learning a lot about sound recording and video editing with every one of these stories that we put together.
It's exciting to think that Breath of the Wild is very nearly here. The Legend of Zelda series just turned 31 years old, and while both of us here at VGST came late to the Nintendo party, we have fond memories of debating which games in the series is the best. Here's hoping that Breath of the Wild will be a strong contender for that top spot.
It's wonderful to learn about the kinds of adventures and experiences that have inspired Shigeru Miyamoto over the years. We'll probably return to tell another story from his youth at some point - I'm hoping we can do Donkey Kong and talk about his first role within Nintendo.
In the meantime, we've got plenty more on the cards for the next few months. In celebration of Mass Effect Adromeda, we'll be tackling a lesser known creative who worked on the series, and we'll also be doing the story of Sonic Mania, if only because Christian Whitehead's hair is awesome and I want to get a chance to draw it.
These are both quite a way away from completion, though, and there are a few other videos in the works as well, including the story of Undertale, and popular requests from you guys like Dark Souls and Earthbound.
Some time in the next two weeks we'll also be doing a special report from a retro video game event here in the UK which nostalgic geeks like me will hopefully get a kick out of. We're not too experienced with live action filming, so it might take a while to get released, or we might have to give up if our footage isn't of a satisfactory quality.
I can only apologize that we don't get these videos done quicker. They each take a lot of work, with multiple audio recording sessions, and with drawing and editing the pictures. There's actually a "Too Hot For KZread" version of the audio for this video, in which BretonStripes really delivered a powerful performance that is wonderfully singsong, but a little too distracting. Maybe we'll share it with you guys one day.
In the meantime, please keep being awesome. We really appreciate all your comments, and while we don't manage to reply to all of them, we do read them all. I've thought multiple times in the past week about quitting all of this because of how much effort it is, but your encouragement has kept me going, so thank you.
Have a great day, and enjoy Breath of the Wild when it's finally released!

They unified the 3DS and WiiU platforms. Not sure what you meant ;)
I really enjoy the energy in this video, it's much better than the trend nowadays of videos to yell out facts at the viewer as if they are on three various energy drinks. On top of that this had really nice art and didn't format Miyamoto's life story into a "Top 10 Facts You Didn't Know About Shigeru Miyamoto's Past!" click-bait.
Seriously, it's downright spooky how often these videos seem to perfectly coincide with struggles in my own life and things on my mind at the time they're released. I just got back from a few-day vacation in Florida, and there is one major lesson I felt like it taught me both as a creator and as a person: I SERIOUSLY need to get out more in my day-to-day life. Admittedly, that's kind of difficult, since it's usually on the colder side where I live and I can't stand being out in the cold, but this vacation made me realize how just simply getting out of the house and even doing something as simple as taking time to enjoy nature helps me feel like I'm getting more out of life as well as helps me find inspiration. For example, just yesterday I got some ideas I really like just while I was letting my mind wander a bit as I watched the manatees (which I am now convinced are the pugs of the ocean....i.e. adorable and awesome). I never even realized how much inspiration I think I might subconsciously draw from nature before the last few days. This episode confirmed everything I learned. Speaking of my vacation, sorry I didn't comment sooner. The wifi in our hotel room was really flaky and bordering on useless. I was able to watch the video on my phone yesterday, though, and it was amazing, as always. Keep up the awesome job, you guys :)

HOW is this channel not more massive? I’ve just found it and I’m absolutely staggered.
4:56 you hear that, EA and 80% of modern video game companies? this is how you make people feel "a sense of pride and accomplishment."
That dog on a chain probably gave Miyamoto the idea of Chain Chomp in Mario.

Damn. This guy really shaped my childhood. I would sit and play Zelda for days, and hours at a time.
This IS a legend in the gaming world...especially for fans of the series. But like with the others, it's the way you present it that I love so much. The drawings are adorable, full of personality with just the right level of detail, and the 'bedtime story' style feels so appropriate. I think I might be on a binge. :)
So you’re saying, Shigeru Miyamoto is Bill Watterson.
Only 1000+ subs is a travesty. This is really great!! Keep it up, please!!

Top quality videos - simple, elegant, informative and inspiring. Great work! I'm sure that the channel will hit many a milestone soon enough!
I could listen to this channel all day
I love your voice. It's sooooo relaxing…
When I was a kid one of my cousins had Super Mario World on the SNES and could beat Bowser as small Luigi in less than a minute. Because of that she was my idol growing up, and I looked up to her and wanted to be like her. These days I inspire my younger cousins and the children of my older ones beating half of Super Mario Galaxy in an hour and such. So that kind of reminds me of what you said at the end..!
your work is so amazing, keep it up!
The idea and excitement of exploring caves that go deep underground could be a potential main theme in BOTW2 😮

Subtitles at 4:08 "...and secrets to everybody" I see what you did there
Simply splendid
I like to watch with the subtitles on, and there are occasional deviations from the script in them. I know they're probably mistakes, but they feel more like hidden Easter Eggs! In this video, at 4:10, the narrator says "...and secrets," but the subtitles say, "...and secrets to everybody," a nod to a popular line from the game. There was at least one other Easter Egg-quality deviation in there, as well, but I can't remember it. Anyway, I really love these videos, and I appreciate how much heart goes into each one!
These are great you deserve way more subs, it's really interesting
And it became GOTY 2017 as expected!
An interesting subject turned into a slow fairy tale
When Shigeru was a kid, he was running around, exploring caves. When I was a kid, I was a spoiled fuckwit. Great.
This channel is so under rated
Another great video! keep it up!
This was amazing! Plus, I don't know if it was supposed to be like that or not, but the beginning sounded like a game or movie's beginning!

I love you guys. You're the best.
Really liked this once since it's coinciding with the new Zelda release next week. (: The narrating and visuals are getting a lot better! Maybe add small animations next? For example with the visual of young Miyamoto finding mushrooms under the log you could do a simple 2 frame animation with the log down and then Miyamoto lifting it up(:
this is adorable! Good video :)
What a wonderful video here.
Could you imagine if he went back to that cave and documented himself exploring it?
man you guys are awesome
Your videos are really great, i hope you get more viewers and subscribers. Also, i think you can do Hidetaka Miyazaki's life, the creater of Souls series.
The dog in this story was actually inspiration for chain chomp. And yes a bunch of people already know this.
Some people want their lives narrated by Morgan Freeman. I’d rather you narrate my life.
Saving is truly one of the most important features in gaming. Anyway, it's time to explore my sizeable Steam game backlog!
I can listen to this voice all the day
I could listen to you read a phone book, your voice is beyond soothing
I love the effort in these videos! You give the storybook feel really well, this channel needs more attention.

I think that line was meant to show the mindset of "young Miyamoto". as a kid anyone would be quick to think they were the only one who knew about it and find joy in it.
30 years after the original legend of zelda, people are still discovering new things?
would be cool to see you do a persona related story!
Imagine this narrator having a conversation with Chills from Top15.
