Friend, tell me if there is a lens from this series that can shoot Lego figures?

Hi, Great video. Nice and thorough. I purchased the Otus 85 1.4 two days ago and feel as though my D800 images are closer to medium format quality. Finally! Can you tell me what focusing screen (make and model number) was used and where can i purchase one? Keep up the good work

Here is what Zeiss itself has to say about focusing aids (there are a few brands there on the bottom - you can probably find their products on B&H or Amazon - I didn't really check): www.zeiss.com/camera-lenses/en_de/website/photography/what_makes_the_difference/focusing_screens.html

It looks like an exquisite object except for the rubber focus ring, which attracts dust. I much prefer the scalloped ring popular before the 70s. Great video!

I fully agree with you that when using a manual focus lens like the Zeiss 55mm f1.4 Otus in live view when shooting a model that could move even a little, (as opposed to a stationary object) the magnified/expanded image in live view is not as helpful, BUT there is another way. That way is FOCUS CONFIRMATION which the Zeiss Otus lenses offer thru communication with either the Nikon D series cameras like the D810 and Canon EOS line of cameras like the Canon 1Dz or 5D Mark III. In this respect one does NOT have to use live view, but instead FOCUS CONFIRMATION AT THE EXACT POINT OF FOCUS, thus not having to worry about the model moving. Hope this helps. Currently I'm using the Canon 1Dx with the Zeiss Otus 85mm f1.4 and the Voightlander Ultron 40mm, and focus confirmation is what I use.

He mentioned focus confirmation in the review. It is not accurate enough for critical focus at wide-open apertures. Have you found that it is reliable at f/1.4?

Hi :) could you share with link to ZEISS with using explanation, please? This is the best video about this lens. I learn about Otus a lot from your video. 10/10. Thank you for your time

Can you compare this Otus 55mm with Leica m 50mm f/2.0 ASPH summicron? Image quality, sharpness?

dragosselaru We didn't test the Leica sadly (they are quite different lenses - at least in terms of aperture and also the Leica isn't made for Canon/Nikon so it is not exactly for the same target audience).

Happy to wear the cost of this lens, happy to carry the weight. But being limited to static subjects and a tripod... unworkable. I'd love to buy an Otus but the shooting envelope seems too restrictive for me.

+sophrapsune If you are using a sony camera - the Batis comes pretty close (we hope to review both of them soon).

+sophrapsune I have the 85mm and use it for nature photography, esp flowers and plants. I do not use a tripod with it nor a focusing screen, just the focus indicator in my D810 and my eyes. Shooting at 1.4 can be tricky when it comes to flowers and wind. Which is why I use back button focus, find the focus, shoot a lot of images. Depending on how much wind there is, many may be slightly out of focus but several will be in focus. Stopping down to f/4 and you will have a hard time missing any focus at any time. Not sure if I will buy the 55mm, not my most used focal length, but I will get the 28mm when it becomes available.

i don't need to see all this again and again! Everything you went through here is a copy of what other people said before. Tell us something we don't already know! (constructive critic :))
