Thank you for the comprehensive maintenance videos of zebco reels. I think almost everyone who fishes has at least one zebco reel.

I think so too. You can get an inexpensive entry level reel and later get an expensive Omega. Thanks for commenting

Thanks for this vid. My gears must be too tight or maybe the steel hollow rod that the spring mounted gear rod slips through in the center of the piece is too narrow. I am going to pick up some grease and I’ll and go through this again. Great vid and really helpful for me as I clean this up and learn about it.

I had a 202,404,606,33 and a 888 , growing up as a kid. Fished Galveston, Texas City Dike, Moses Lake....caught fish like trout, redfish but a lot of croakers and whitings. I long for the gift of childhood.

I appreciate seeing all the inner workings so i could do maintenance on a 404 I picked up at an estate sale for $2. The pin for the drag system was broken like you mentioned.

That spring pin is a common weakness. I have seen pics of guys fixing them though.

The water here in Utah has been so low that the fishing has been really difficult. I can't even get my boat on some of the lakes. It is crazy. Have a happy holiday season, Ed.

Do the new Chinese made ones have a stainless scalloped spinner cone too? I'm liking those better than pins lately.

Great video! Super informative, but I’m wondering if anyone could help with resetting the anti-reverse pin. My husband got a lure stuck in the tree, and I unfortunately didn’t realize I was cranking the wrong way. I see my pin is in the wrong place and is now grinding the gears. I’ve got it disassembled and the pin out but am finding it impossible to get back in place.

Matthew I took apart this 404 reel and when I put it back together the drag wheel would not turn what did I do wrong ?

I bet you did not get the spinner cone all the way down on the "D" shaped shaft and when you tightened up the nut it seazed the reel up.

check out one of my videos about putting new fishing line on a spincast reel.

You spoke of low water well, sir, let me tell you, I went down to the Conn. river today where I use to fish mom took over and it's all covered with weeds the park has gone down the tubes. Down I need your help I picked up an ABU Garica 505 spincast reel, Matt it needs grears HELP PLEASE

They are great reels and a good way to introduce fishing to novices. Or for the experienced fisherman who loves to save $.

No problem at all. I am going to try for some fall White Bass next week, but Utah Lake might be too low. The drought here has been hard on our water levels!
