I can understand that answer actually. I don't think he was "leading them on" or something. People can think they are in love. Or BE in love. But once the relationship ends, you think of it differently. You start thinking: "Well, if it WAS real love, it wouldn't have ended so badly" or you can realize it was just infatuation in retrospect. Especially when you can compare it to more pure, less dramatic, unconditional kind of love, such as love you have for your child. I think he was just reflecting about love in general. And I just watched the whole interview and he speaks nicely about Gigi, you guys just want to see "shades" and drama everywhere

i think people misunderstood what he meant. being inlove with someone is a whole different thing to just being in a relationship. sometimes , you date someone for years and then things will just start to fall apart. i think zayn said what he said because he has a different understanding of what love is now ( because of his daughter) even though he stated that he isn’t sure what love truly is or if he’s been truly inlove. often, you know what love is because you’ve first experienced what love isn’t. often, people get confused on what love is. they often think infatuation is love.

He was in love according to his understanding and personality then. As he changed and grew he didn’t find that to be the real type of love anymore. It’s normal. We love from the place of our maturity and understanding and perception at the time. We evolve so as our understanding and emotions too.

He displays self awareness and a lot of growth. He says that after his daughter he realised he has a lot of love in him that he didn't know he had before. They just go on to discuss what love and being 'in love' means and that's what he responds to that he doesn't understand what being in love exactly is, so maybe he hasn't been in love yet. So that's a very real response from him. Also, Gigi is the one who still likes his posts and tags him so I don't see why he would be bitter.

Having watched his evolution over the past few years, it is clear that he has done a lot of healing and is really thriving now, since the breakup. There's no reason for him to 'save face'. It was a stressful situation for both of them when they were together, but now they're amicably coparenting, and he is happier & more confident than I've ever seen him.
