You are wrong, sir. Yes, there is the Zatoichi film series that ran from 1962-1989. This is the Zatoichi TV series that ran from 1974-1979. And so there is a film series and TV series with the same actor playing Zatoichi.
So sad plot.. so he saved the little girl and returned 10 years later?
