    I am currently evaluating my M-90 as a AK 2 gun competition rifle ( Accuracy, reliability and durability) ands so far the results have been promising. I need to evaluate it with more loads to see which of the cheaper ball rounds function. I zeroed it with Winchester XP hunting loads. On the Mount issue I know multiple owners of both the M-90 and the M-91 that are reporting good results with the current Zastava mount. Don't tell the tacticool status chasers that though. I am running my Zastava mount with a Bushnell 1-6 LVPO again with very good results but I wanna stretch it out to around 600M to make absolutely sure it will work at that range.. On the magazines my rifle did not like the AC unity magazines at all. What was surprising is where my M-85 did not like the Zastava magazines but it loved the AC ones. My M-90 seems to prefer even the same magazines that I purchased to test for the M-85 that the M-85 choked on. Welcome to the joys of AK ownership. On the gas setting I have been running my M-91 on setting 1 after the first magazine through it. So you might just move it over now and see what it does,

    Pretty much agree. Out of what’s currently on the market (i.e. excluding the used market) this is probably the best option for a 5.56 AK. I’ve found mine to run reliably with any kind of ammo and with the broadest assortment of magazines. The quality is decent (any “complaints” I could come up with are nitpicks barely worth mentioning). Do wish someone made a decently priced 74-clone in 5.56, though. The Palmetto offering seems to have quality problems, and the Pioneer option as well.

    When it comes to scope mounts I always go with MWI.... They make a solid product that can take abuse and hold zero really well, even when running a bigger optic like a LPVO on your AK, which SOME other mounts on the market have issues with. Typically I wouldn't run a LPVO on a AK but with a 5.56 AK I might. I have been running the MWI scope mounts on my M70 for a while now and it hold zero really well even with a Burris full-field 4x LPVO W/ the PEPR mount. which is a pretty heavy optic of an AK. I also really like RS regulate.. But RS Regulate seems to be out of stock way more often and honestly MWI does the job just as well.. so I just buy from MWI and save a hundred bucks lol One thing I have heard about these M90's is that the early models were having a lot of issues. One of which was people were reportedly beating their rear trunnion loose within 500 rounds of shooting it on the 3 setting of the gas block. idk how true this is. But I have seen stuff claiming this on the internet. Im probably just gonna keep mine on the 1 setting.

    I'm probably the only 556 ak purist on earth lol. My m90 has fresh surplus wood with a touch of trench art. Had a Yugo m90 muzzle brake fabricated to spec. My wz96 clone (Beryl) definitely has more options with mags ,I'd say the m90ps sits second in that category. Overall great AK.

    Sorry but that sounds like a really dumb idea. You’re spending almost $2,000 on an Arsenal which can do anything the M90 can for almost 800-1,000 dollars cheaper. Arsenal rifles are overpriced in the sense that what you get out of spending 1,800-2K in some instances with them just isn’t justifiable for the quality you get out of one. The Beryl rifles are a little different. The 1,500 dollar price tag is reasonable for the quality, and they are a little bit better than the Zastava lines but not by much. Idk about you but I’d rather have an optic and a thousand round tin of 5.56 with that kind of money. Don’t buy Gucci AK’s just for the brand name.

    Really great review, I'm looking to get my first AK, maybe my only AK, but I'm stuck between this and the new M77. The range and power of the .308 is really appealing, but the lack of magazines available and price and weight of .308 is a downside. If you had to trust your life with one or the other in a emergency, hunting, self defense etc, what is the best choice?

  • @godzilla1463

    @godzilla1463

    Жыл бұрын

    If you're choosing between the two, I'd say the M90. .308 has way to much blast, recoil, and penetration for home defense. If you want something that can be used for home defense, hunting, and SHTF, then get an M70 in 7.62x39

  • @-Zevin-

    @-Zevin-

    @@godzilla1463 Thanks for the reply! It's unfortunate that nobody near me stocks the m70, but they do have M90 and M77. The availability of .223 and .308 is pretty appealing, especially in a SHTF scenario. 7.62x39 is kind of ideal, especially since it would be my first and "proper" AK, but the ammo ban and just the prevalence of ARs around me really make me consider ammo. Fortunately for hunting, the largest game around me is coyote, black bear and white tail deer. It would be more of a "if I had to" hunting rifle rather than something I would buy just to hunt if that makes sense. Is it really worth stocking up on 7.62 still these days, compared to the price/availability of 556?

    Okay youre a little all over the place here. You say self defense and hunting... what are you hunting in this percieved scenario and whatvplace or environment are you defending? Because these are two wildly different roles to play for one rifle. The m77 308 (which is much older not newer than the m90 model) is basically an epically bad ass perfect bug out rifle. You can snipe a zombie or a bad communist soldier in a SHTF scenario or you can take a big game animal and feed your family/group for a week with one well placed shot. 308 also defeats barriers very very well. But... its like a foot longer and a good bit heavier. It is NOT an indoor defensive weapon. Not in the slightest. The 5.56 version can accommodate indoor defense a lot better. Honestly though... there are better options than an AK for that too. Specially and 18" barreled version. I HATE to reccommend an AR over an AK for anything... but... 5.56 is sorta the AR15s specialty. And they do come in shorter "pistol" configurations thatd do much better inside. Thay being said... if you can find a pinned and welded 14.5" 5.56 ak rifle then thatd be probably pretty close to ideal since AKs can have folding stocks while ars always have the buffer tube... which mean smaller package way better indoors. But... for home defense 5.56. For outdoor work or at distance 308 m77 all day every day. If you want a "one AK to rule them all" Youre hinestly looking at a 7.62x39. Its a 30cal bullet that can take almost any large game in north america. It comes in a smaller lighter tighter package than the 308. And parts availability between all 3 of these calibers of AKs... the ak47 (7.62x39) has the most options for upgrades mods extras etc. Its not even close. And they make home defense rounds for the 7.62x39. Havent tried any of them myself... but they exist. My choice was buy an AK in every caliber i possibly could. I have -The m77 in 308 -Romanian cugir RH10 7.62x39 -Psa GF5 in 7.62x39 -Psa AK101 in 5.56. DRACO Pistol 9mm (best 4 home defense btw) -And finally an AK12 Saiga clone shotgun. (Which is also awesome for home defense) -*bonus* And im trying to blackmail my friend right now for his Romanian PSL because he already has a russian tigr in 7.62x54r which is basically a civilian dragunov and he needs to stop being so fucking greedy!!! But in short... Whats your intended use? Hunting, bugout, ranged work: M77 Indoors very light hunting cqb: M90 Do all everything gun: any AK in 7.62x39. Best answer: buy all the aks... all of them... get the sickness.... yessssss yesssssss.... alll the AK!!!
