Thank you for this perfect review! I was searching for a hiking boot for the last months and you review helped me a lot! You did a better review on a product, than any 1 million subscribers proffesional channel has ever done to any product. Happy new year!!!

Hi, good review which mirrors much of my own experience over several years with this boot (I've just ordered a new pair after 10 years). I've ordered a size up from what I had before as my feet seem to have spread a bit. I'm now an old-school size 9, and since a Euro 43 is less than that, and these things run a bit short, I'm trying a 44 rather than a 43.5, which is virtually impossible to find without going direct to Zamberlan and paying a premium for them. With regards to the collar tightening issue, the fit here can be improved by using the eyelet flap at the back of the collar to tighten the laces all around the collar, which snugs it up significantly and helps prevent heel-lift also. This is an old-fashioned feature which you rarely see these days. All you need to do is make a simple 'butterfly' knot at the front as normal, feed the laces around the back and through the eyelet, then around to the front. Pull the laces across, releasing the knot you made without losing any tension (this happens automatically, so don't worry), and then tie at the front of the boot as normal. Works a treat.

Thank you for your review, it is very comprehensive and I agree. Been watching videos of this boot because today, after 5+ years of wearing exactly the same model, on ice, snow, rain, mud, dirt, leaves, tarmac, you name it, I have realized how comfortable and awesome they still are. The front was a bit worn out so I have coated them with a layer of technical wax (Nikwax) and I couldn't believe they actually look so good after so much life. Great companion to any outing, enjoy them!

good revue. I live in the Canadian Rockies and wear these boots on an almost daily basis, even when walking easy, paved trails. They fit great, needed no breaking in and I have never had a hot spot. The only drawback is poor ice traction but that can be corrected with over the boot devices. Quality from top to bottom - I highly recommend them.

Great video and thank you for the detailed and honest critique regarding the boots. I tried them on today at REI and were the most comfortable boots ever. Your video may have got me to purchase these... but, still looking around. Thanks!

This is an awesome review. Really informative and helpful. I'm also considering the Scarpas, which look great as well. Thanks so much!

Just ordered a pair after years of wearing Meindles, I've heard lots of good things about these so my expectations are high. They should be perfect for an up and coming trip to Norway.

Thanks for this review. I'm torn between the Vioz and the Scarpa Men's Kinesis Pro GTX. I like the Scarpa's because they have a full rand. Anyway, thanks again.

Really good review. Thanks for taking the time to do that. I just bought some and took them out for a 4km walk yesterday and I noticed a problem similar to what you describe. My thin ankles made me have to tie the top part of the boots so tight that it gave me lace bite. Do you think the boots will become more forgiving as they break in? I'm already using a lacing technique for lace-bite prone individuals. Also, now that it has been four years, how did your boots hold up?

Same pros and cons in my experience, just got my second pair. Lasted two years as a landscaper. This second pair though was new off ebay without box. I cannot find instructions on lacing the incredibly long laces! Perhaps if you know how maybe do a quick video on that? Lol

it's a full grain quality leather, clean, it, condition it, shine it and it'll come back to life like it's first day.

Good review. If you want the rubber rand you have to pay more. i just got the 1025 tofane which has a front rubber rand; I would have liked better to have it all around the shoe but it is what it is; price was $395.00. bought them because I have an upcoming hike of 11 miles out and back in very rocky terrain with gravel and small boulders and rocks then some snow around the tree line gaining 2000 fT of elevation. i have a pair of Vasques 7482 Breeze 2.0 GTX, which are just fine for this type of terrain but since there is snow I thought these tofane may work better, we will see.

@@mr.bnatural3700 Oh believe it or not I have not wear them extensively since I got them, only once and short distance; they are just sitting there; not extended hiking just yet which I am very sorry to report, it is my wishes to do a long hike soon enough..time permits, which it is always a hassle to get the right time to go out there but I bought them thinking of a hike to a very rocky trail I got close by of 5 miles up and 5 miles back; I went to it once right after I got them but ventured into the trail only couple miles, camped and went back; as far as that experience goes they were awesome; it is almost a shame to get them all rugged up with the rocks in the trails.

@@fireyourrocketts Thanks for replying. My wife and i do a lot of day hiking in the Ozarks and I bought a pair of Tofanes for her; the irony is she loves the new smell and beautiful construction that she doesn't want to get them dirty and messed up. She literally keeps them closed up in the box so she can open it up for the smell and to admire the boots.. So we use our trusty, tough & comfy Meindl vakuum boots while it's still winter with all the mud and snow. So I was wondering how they worked out for you.

@@mr.bnatural3700 haha yes I remember thinking the same thing when I got mine; they are worthy of admiration when you open the box and I remember saying hell no, I will not take this on no trail after that price tag..I would dare saying they are boots for the rich not the average person as myself but in general the experience is awesome; they cushion very well in rocky terrain; I mentioned mines have the rand in the front which offer some protection but the leather gets scratched and blemish all around it; mine are reddish color, not black once you overcome that fact seems they would be very durable; they are after all made for that purpose; I wish I could afford another pair just for the city and urban use, although even those with its battle scars would do great service in any environment. if you are thinking in buying a pair you wont be disappointed but the urge to keep them in the box new is real!

Excellent review on a superb pair of boots. I agree on the rubber rand, it would definitely help them stay looking new longer but they definitely do look better without them. I know, I know, it doesn't matter what they look like. I would agree if they weren't so dang sexy! The dark colored leather does scratch easy, but I don't feel it will cause them to wear to the point of failure prematurely.
