It's funny you noticed that short response time means you're on the right track. There is a pre-recorded solution. If you deviate from it, the engine kicks in so response time is not immediate. I did it this way because sometimes there are many moves that lead to essentially similar results (+/- 25% of the problems) - so that's the solution we found to allow alternative paths to checkmate. I actually added a "fake" delay if you still play within the pre-recorded solution, to give the feeling the computer is thinking. Maybe I should make it a bit longer.

When it comes to showing the category/rating before playing the puzzle, I used to show it for every problem. But some users made the point that it was a better exercice if you don't know in advance, because it influences your reasonning. So I hid it for now, except for the most difficult problems (mate in 5). But some users still prefer to know in advance (i.e. they get frustrated if they found a mate in 4 where a mate in 3 was possible). It's been a bit of a debate between users. So I guess I'll make it an option later ("show" or "not show" - if "shown" it will decrease the points you win). I need to add this option anyway, if users want to browse problems by category, rather than getting them randomly. I saw you said you found the problems too easy. For me they're already too difficult haha. Do you think it would make sense to add "mate in 6", "mate in 7", etc.? what would be the limit? At some point I'll also design other types of problems (best move, hanging piece, pin, fork, etc.) In any case, don't hesiste to send feedback, I'm sure you opinion would be very valuable.

I think any variety is welcome. Of course, the higher the rating, the more difficult tasks are expected, as when climbing a mountain.
