Zach Wilson Is A BUST.

Спорт

Zach Wilson is a bust. We’ve finally reached the point where we can say that with confidence. The Jets have tried to give Wilson multiple chances to show why New York selected him with a 2nd overall pick, but he has consistently disappointed and has already been benched twice this year alone. Zach Wilson has been awful and it’s really a shame. The NFL completely missed on Zach Wilson as a prospect because in less than 2 seasons, Zach Wilson has already etched his name on the list of some of the biggest busts in NFL history.

Difference between him and Burrow was Burrow played in the best division in college against a ton of great teams and had arguably one of the best years as a gb in college history. Burrows first year at LSU wasn't terrible either. It was mainly the offense that was ran under his first year. There was no doubt Burrow was legit heading in to the draft. No clue how people thought Zach Wilson was going to be good.

There isn't a solid way to tell whether a player will be an all-star or a bust. The teams drafting QB's are taking a gamble and are usually rebuilding teams with multiple holes in the roster, not just QB. I think QB could be the hardest position to draft for because there is so much pressure placed on QB's.

We’ve seen what this team looks like with Quaterbacks like mike white and hell even Chris Steveler and it’s totally different. QB’s need to be able to keep drives going and stay in the pocket under the slightest amount of pressure and he cannot do that. Unfortunately the jets once again have wasted a top pick and that is worth booing

What NO ONE mentions about Wilson’s “BREAKOUT” Junior year is that because of covid rules, all the Pac-12/Big Ten teams cancelled their non-conference games. What that meant was that BYU did not face their most difficult competition in 2020. In each of 2018/2019, they faced at least 3 ranked teams from those conferences. In 2020, they did not have to play the likes of Wisconsin(2018:6), Utah(2018:18, 2019:12), Washington(2018:11, 2019:22) and USC(2019:24), which they faced at least once in the 2 previous years.

ZW is very green. And I think Saleh’s a good guy and a good coach; but ZW really needed a much better and mature offensive system and probably an offensive minded head coach to slowly bring him along. The Jets have now proven that they destroy developing QBs, not develop them. This is not to say that he doesn’t have a lot of issues to iron out; but unfortunately for Zach, he was drafted by the wrong team for his specific needs … I just have a lot of problem with analysts like JD Production immediately going for the low hanging fruit, that ZW’s already a bust.

I can be reasonably sure that Wilson is sort of introverted. Like Streveler's squeeze of Garrett Wilson's head after he fumbled, like "don't worry about it, kid", isn't something I've ever seen Wilson do. Mike White is also a better team captain. That comes with age and success, and helps, but I don't know how critical it is. But the offense springing to live was because Streveler totally discombobulated the Jaguars D -- his first two passes, first to Elijah Moore (dead on target), second to Uzomah (barely catchable -- all Streveler has to do is throw it close enough that Uzomah can catch it without diving, and it's a touchdown) were to receivers that were completely uncovered. I don't mean open, I mean there was nobody on them -- Uzomah was behind the secondary in the great lawn in central park at midnight, with officials playing the part of random winos. THAT's how open Uzomah was. And I've already said he was behind the secondary, but it's worth saying it again. That's the biggest defensive breakdown I've seen all year. Makes the blown coverage at the end of the Lions game look like Huff's strip sack of Josh Allen at the end of Buffalo at home. You will never see the coverage just forget about receivers with White or Wilson at QB. The defense simply didn't know what to do, which led to Streveler gaining yards, which led to more hyped up players. I kind of think Saleh messed up by revealing that look in garbage time, because once defenses scheme for it won't be as effective. I think the locker room issues are just reporters looking for gossip. When Wilson punched the air in frustration in the Lions game, the commentators just went and assumed it was at the QB. I wasn't so sure, because Wilson had thrown it inside of G. Wilson, and Wilson had been running flat only to suddenly slow down without turning, which was the second time I had seen that exact same miss, when you shouldn't see a WR run that pattern at all. (The point is "run flat out for 15 yards in man coverage and then stop" is not a route. Cut in, cut back, all of those, sure, but you don't just stand there: MLF gets criticized but I give him credit not to have that anywhere in his playbook). Later reporting said that Wilson had been held almost the entire fourth quarter, and he had pointed it out to the officials, and four plays later, three of which he had been held, Wilson targeted him when he had been illegally pushed out of position. I'd be mad too -- that was the second game the refs had been "punishing" Garrett Wilson. A single play of that BS is too much, forget about on and off for two games. Sometimes the refs act like a bunch of thugs.

New York City may not be a good fit. He was not ready to start in the nfl. The talent is there. But the jets r squandering the draft pick, just like Sam. @@chevy4x466 Yeah, the Jets have a member in both the Marino five and the Brady six: Ken O'brien was the only one of the Marino 5 who wasn't a total bust and even made the pro-bowl a time or two. And Chad Pennington was as good or better than Brady until he got injured. They were both really similar in style -- their names and "dink and dunk" got thrown together all the time, but Pennington was #1 in most efficiency stats, with Brady at #2. One thing I miss was Pennington's gaudy play action: he'd even fool the camera operator, and turn his back totally on the play for a few seconds, only to whip around and pass it to an open receiver. It was like a magic trick. You're right, I don't think New York is a great place for QBs to struggle. Until yesterday I was actually under the impression that Wilson had missed his first year training camp due to injury: finding out that wasn't true has made me look at him with a less optimistic eye. But for a ton of reasons, this is not a good place for him: the OC is a better fit for a Mike White or Pennington type, the offensive line collapsed, and New York is a tough market. And the Quarterback position is HARD -- I consider myself a pretty smart guy, but when I try to put myself into making the decisions with speed that they have to do it, my head spins off. Add a terribly injured offensive line and I would probably curl up into a ball. He may do well sitting a year under Aaron Rodgers. They're similar: they've both got heavy artillery, they both are accurate (WHEN they're accurate) throwing off base, and they're both threats to scramble without being full blown rushers.

Some guys can’t adjust to the speed of the game from college to the pros. Wilson couldn’t. He still plays like he’s in college. Which won’t work at the NFL level, and he’s demonstrated a complete inability to work with anything outside of what worked in college. There’s no improving this kid. If it’s the right call, I’m hoping that the kid goes elsewhere and prove that the Jets was just the wrong environment for him to succeeding; this would also place crap on the face of everyone who prejudged him as a bust without allowing more to play out over a solid 3-4 seasons during his development. FYI, Mike White has 4-5 seasons of NFL observational experience. Streveler is 27; and he’s had a hardcore experience in the Canadian league. Both of their experiences superseded Wilson’s very low floor. So before passing judgement about these guys being better, I’ve always thought they’d shine given their seniority; but the priority was to develop Wilson, not play these guys with their higher floors. So your analysis of the situation lacks nuances. Despite the good draft picks, too many things went wrong in between, to say that Wilson was properly developed over the 22 games he’d played.

Everybody knew that. Trevor Lawrence was the only QB worth drafting and a future hall of fame caliber player. This was all about marketing. Teams draft QBs at the top of the draft and lie to casual fans who don't watch college football so that they can profit off of their names. It didn't matter if drafting DeVonta Smith or some other player instead of Zach Wilson would have won the Jets 4 Super Bowls because it's all about profitability with these owners and GMs, so if Wilson could be marketed such that he'd generate a dollar more than any other player, at the expense of winning, they were drafting him.

I thought the Zach haters just didn't understand football, but now that White's starting, it turns out they DO know what an offensive line is, and are suddenly worried about it. Like, the instasacks of Wilson led to comments that he has no pocket sense, instead of sometimes you're getting sacked no matter what you do. But now suddenly the QB has gone to "holding the team back" to being less important to whether the Jets make the playoffs than the line is. Go check Buffalo Jet Fan's "Can White Lead the Jets to the playoffs?" Every other comment is "if the line holds up" lol. Which means their expectations that White can even finish above .500 aren't so strong, and they're already contextualizing. If you're not willing to use the same standards for both quarterbacks, then something other than their quality is driving you. Don't know what it is, but it's not finding the best QB. I'll be honest -- White is likeable. He's also kind of cute. Wilson isn't as easy to like. He's sort of introverted. I get it -- I don't really care, but I see it. Whatever you get out of sports is whatever you get out of sports.

I believe if you plugged him into the Jets he would have great stats this season, and we would have a playoff spot clinched already. Especially given the fact Garrett was his college teammate, that dude would probably already be at 1200 yds and 10 TDs by now As it stands now in the real world and not the fantasy realm, Mike White just got cleared and THANK GOD. I think we resign him to a two to three year deal after this season and let him be the bridge to another young QB if Zach doesn’t pan out (which he more than likely won’t). Contractually speaking the damage id already done with Zach so I see no use in cutting him outright, just bench him and let him work on his fundamentals and maybe learn how to play the position lmao. In the meantime, if we give Mike White the reigns next year, get AVT, Mitchell and Breece back healthy, draft/sign another OT and pray the line can remain healthy for a full year, and then shore up the final few holes on our defense (FS and LB) I think we can be a 10 win team next year. The vast majority of elite NFL QBs have been 4 or 5 star recruits or the equivalent thereof. Also, the Jets were responsible for not getting Trevor Lawrence, but they still could have drafted DeVonta Smith at that spot. One draft pick doesn't mean much in the NFL. You can draft a kicker #1 overall and win the Super Bowl as long as the rest of the team is solid. Drafting QBs at the top of the draft is all about marketing: selling jerseys and putting fans in the seats. The Jets couldn't care less about drafting logically as long as their 1st round pick proves marketable.

What Zach needs is to step back for the next 18 months and work very hard on his game. He needs to be humble and hungry to learn. The best place for him is in a backup situation where the spotlight will be off, he is learning from a veteran, and working with a coach that will push him and not baby him. If he does this and realizes it is about the team and not him, it is about hard work and humility...he still has a fighter's chance. He has good arm strength and I have to believe his accuracy would be much better with more confidence. A fit for him could be Tennessee, Denver, Seattle, or Atlanta. None of these guys were anywhere near as bad as Wilson has been. When someone is playing nervous it makes it impossible to play the game with instinct, which is what all successful NFL qbs do. If I were a team searching for the answer at qb, I wouldn't rule out having him as a 3rd string or on the practice squad in hopes that he would improve. Wilson has shown nothing, and everything they’ve tried to work with and improve he’s failed miserably at. He doesn’t seem like the kind of a guy a change of scenery would benefit. I think he just doesn’t have what it takes to play anywhere. Maybe the Niners could do something with him, since they appears to be the QB whisperers of the league at this point, but they have 3 QBs already, and that leaves Wilson’s potential options to end up on a team that he can progress on very unlikely. Zack Wilson benefits from how overrated the QB position is. He also showed how horrible the NFL media has been in their bias and “analysis”. Zack is a second overall pick getting over shadowed by a 5th rd pick from another team. That’s incredibly sad for the most impactful and important position. Now add on top you said that the RB who is a second rd pick is out that has more of an impact is even worse.

@El Gaucho no but I think he has potential to be a top 10 qb, maybe even a better Kirk Cousins. Besides, the Jets team around him is so young and talented that you don't need a top 3 HOF qb to take them to the playoffs or even the superbowl. Next year, I think Mike White won't be an MVP candidate, but the Jets defense will be one of the best, if not the best, and the offense will be top ten with Mike White at QB. All he has to do is play decent, which I have full confidence in, when he has players like Garret Wilson, Breece Hall, Elija Moore (maybe), AVT and Mechi Bechtin.

And I think Gus Johnson (who is great) was gushing over how they 'looked different' in a good way against Nebraska. How do you figure? Even Mike White die-hards have suddenly woken up to the fact that a QB is roadkill without a functioning line. By the time Wilson played New England -- his first loss -- we'd lost five offensive lineman for the season. We're now up to six. If you think that's the right environment to prove anything, you'd be getting rid of both of our excellent running backs (4 straight games under 50 yards rushing), and you'd ignore any QB's ability to stretch the defense vertically. Have it your way, except if I hear one complaint about the line over the last two games, I'm going to answer it with 10 around the internet about how White blew the season for us. Nothing against White, but we're judging QBs by Zach Wilson rules, which means no excuses, even if they're totally valid. No so-and-so dropped the ball (when has that ever matter with Wilson under center?), no so and so fumbled, no bad calls, and no matador offensive line. Unless you don't think White can measure up by Wilson (it's always the QB's fault) standards?

Zach has been a nightmare, but he's under contract and I personally don't want to see him get booted. Won't be able to trade him for much, so might as well see if there's any way to get him back on schedule. I think the bigger aspect to all this is that his teammates are clearly frustrated with him and do not like him. Combined with his low NFL IQ and terrible inaccurate passes, it might be too much to overcome. It still hurts to see a guy with so much potential tossed before his third year. Let him sit behind White (or a real vet) and see what happens.

The thing with Joe Burrow was that the offense that Urban Meyer uses just didn't fit Burrow's strengths. Whether if it was Alex Smith at Utah or Tebow at Florida, Urban Meyer college QBs are dual threats, with designed runs as well as traditional passing. Joe can run some, but he wasn't what Tebow or even Dwayne Haskins were at the college level. Joe went to LSU and found the right system that worked for him, and now he's been killing it ever since he got to the NFL.

Not true about the offense that was in place during Joe's last two years at Ohio State. They were not running Urban's offense as Ryan Day had taken over as OC and moved away from it. Dwayne Haskins was a true passing quarterback and only ran occasionally, and mainly in one game against Maryland when he was basically the entire offense. He passed for almost 500 yards that game and ran for 2-3 touchdowns because the defense was the worst in OSU's history, well...until the defenses from the last two years 2021 and 2022.

It would take a spectacularly talented and mature QB to go to the Jets in the first round and not be a "bust." There's a reason the org has a reputation. Between the rabid New York media market and fans with delusions of grandeur regarding what a draftee should immediately deliver, any young QB is destined to fail. The organization clearly has no interest in / capacity to develop QB talent, and the fans don't have the patience. the Jets organization expects a savior QB to deliver a deep playoffs season immediately, but that is not a reasonable expectation for most QBs fresh out of college. I sincerely feel bad for Wilson. Despite the Jets doing everything possible to ruin him as a trade asset, I'm hoping he'll get picked up by a team with the infrastructure to invest in his development.
